2 Welcome Dear Leaders and members of the Troop: The theme of this year s Fall Camporee is The Force Awakens. The Camporee will be held on March 4 th, 5 th, & 6 th at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve primitive camping area. Focus will be placed on the patrol method with events and activities that allow patrols to compete with each other. Events will be based on problem solving skills and team work. Patrols will also be judged on scout spirit and a cooking contest. In addition Troops will be judged on overall scout spirit and campsite inspection. There will also be some fun activities and games planned. Included in this guide is a copy of the program events, activities, campsite inspection form and awards. Leaders are encouraged to provide a copy of this program to each patrol so that they are aware of how they will be judged. Scout skills should be reviewed and practiced before the Camporee. Units should come prepared to participate in the campfire program with skits, songs, and Scout Spirit. The Order of the Arrow will perform Call Outs at the end of the ceremony. Units will be required to provide at least one adult leader and one senior scout to serve on staff and assist in running the events. Campsites will be assigned during check-in. 3 Camporee Events Patrol Competitions (Saturday March 5 th 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM) Yoda s Do or Do Knot Challenge: Scouts are required to tie all of the basic scout knots and explain their use. Each knot is worth ten points. Patrols will be required to use one large rope to tie all knots as a team. Scouts must work as a team and hold on to the rope at all times. (Points & Timed event) Rescue Luke on Hoth: During this event scouts will be sent down a trail on a search and rescue mission. Scouts must look for trail signs in order to locate a Luke Skywalker. Once Luke is located correct first aid must be administered. Finally the lost scout must be transported back to the beginning of the trail. (Total 40 Points) Objectives and Scoring: Identify trail signs. (10 Points) Locate Luke. (10 Points) Provide first aid. (10 Points) Transport Luke back to beginning of trail. (10 Points) Jedi Training: Patrols will send each Jedi along with their lightsaber through a series of trials and obstacles to test their endurance, agility, and speed. (Timed event) X-Wing Challenge: Build a rocket using the materials provided. Points will be awarded for design, creativity, and distance launched. (40 Points) Message to Obi-Wan: One scout will be given a message that then must complete a challenge. The challenge will be running a certain distance, completing jumping jacks, sit ups etc. Once he is done he must share his message with the next scout in line. The last scout will compare his message with the original message. The goal is the have the message correct. (40 Points) How tall is that Wookie: Measure the height of an object using scout skills. (40 Points) Death Star Swing: Using a rope scouts must swing to a box and land on it. Once all scouts have landed on the box time is stopped. (Timed event) Hoth Survival: Scouts will build a fire with supplied resources. Once the fire is going each patrol will be given the materials to cooks s mores. Each patrol must cook and eat four s mores to survive Hoth. (Timed event) Light Speed Plotting Course: Patrols must navigate a compass course with several legs to find the correct destination point. Points will be awarded to the closest position to destination point. (40 points)

4 Jedi Mind Trick: Patrols will be given two minutes to memorize items placed on a table and then write from memory what they have seen within five minutes. Points will be awarded for each item remembered correctly. (40 points) Han Solo s Carbonite Challenge: Your patrol has just been unfrozen from carbonite and are blind. You must now setup a tent wearing blind folds. One patrol member who can still see will give instructions to the other patrol members to assemble the tent. (Timed Event) Lando s Sarlacc Pit Escape: Everyone in the Patrol gets a 6 ft. rope. Each person ties a bowline around their waist. They then tie the other end of their rope to a central loop (about 1 ft. in diameter, supplied by the judge.) They then must travel a set course as fast as possible. No one may be dragged. This is a timed event. There will be time deductions for incorrectly tied knots. (Timed Event) Cooking Competition (Saturday March 5 th 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM) (Max for each event.) Chewbacca s Culinary Challenge: Each Patrol will send two scouts to the main pavilion to compete in a cooking competition that will judge their menu selection, preparation, and taste. All cooking must be prepared by Patrol members only. Adults and other scouts are not allowed to help. This event will take place Saturday between 4 PM and 6 PM. (40 Points) Troop Competition Games (Saturday March 5 th 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM) Tug of War: An old classic battle of tug of war. (40 Points) Kickball: An informal game in which an inflated ball is thrown to a person who kicks it and proceeds to run the bases. (40 Points) Dodge Ball: Players on two teams try to throw balls at each other while avoiding being hit themselves. (40 Points) Ultimate Frisbee: Non-contact team field sport played with a flying disc. (40 Points) Nighttime Activities (Saturday March 5 th 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM) Enemy Campsite Observation: Scouts must creep up silently upon an enemy campsite to observe it. Scouts must do it silently because if they are heard and spotlighted by the enemy then they will be eliminated and the Patrol will lose points. A test will be given to the remaining members of the Patrol on what they observed. Astronomy: Identify constellations, stars, and planets. (Weather permitting)

5 Awards Spirit Award The Patrol showing the most Patrol Spirit will be recognized at the campfire. Included in the judging will be patrol participation in events, cheerfulness, patrol flag, respect, and cooperation of team members. Top Patrol Award The patrol that receives the top overall scores from the weekend s events will receive this award. Patrol Competition Awards Each Patrol will compete in several events which will test their problem solving skills, scout knowledge, and team work. Each event will be scored for how well the patrol performs. First, Second, and Third Awards will be given to the top three patrols who earn the most points from all events. Patrol Cook-Off Award Each Patrol will compete in a Dutch oven cooking competition that will judge preparation and taste. Patrols will send two members to the main pavilion at 4 PM. Patrols must also supply their own Dutch oven, fire pit and all necessary cookware items. Members will prepare one dish that demonstrates creativity and has a star wars themed name. All ingredients and food must be supplied by each patrol. All cooking must be prepared by Patrol members only. Adults and other scouts are not allowed to help. Top Troop Award The Troop with the best overall performance and scout spirit will receive this award. Troops will be judged on appearance, participation in SPL meetings, timeliness for assemblies, patrol participation, troop campsite inspection, and Scout Spirit. The troop that exemplifies the best in these qualities will be recognized at the campfire. Troop Campsite Inspection Award Each campsite will be inspected and rated using the attached Troop Campsite Inspection Form. Please provide troop members with a copy of the form in advance so that they can be prepared. Judges will stop by around 1 PM on Saturday to judge sites. Scoutmaster Cook-Off Award Scoutmasters and adult leaders will compete in a cooking competition that will judge their menu selection, preparation, and taste. Dishes should be brought to the Scoutmaster Potluck dinner for judging. All cooking must be prepared by adult leaders only.
