1 SO-COMPUTER SERVICES, AGNES FELDMAN Computer Service Almost all the web sites have been converted to the WOW 11 format. There are problems with the following web sites, This occurs on the Flotillas Page 26-02, Links to Cheboygan 26-06, Links to old site 26-07, Links to WOW 11 Master page 26-09, Link to master site I cannot control the Flotillas page, but I have notified the DSO-CS and they are working on it. I have listed the flotillas on our home page and those links work. The Links work from the 9CR page and the National Page links to the 9CR page. Thanks for all the hard work. The Site looks good I continue to process ID cards and have produced 18 since our last meeting SO-HUMAN RESOURCES ROBERT WERTZ The 2012 Boating Season began earlier than usual this year with an unseasonably warm March and April allowing boaters to head to our lakes and rivers much sooner than in other years. As a result area Flotillas have been asked to keep up with public need and prepare their members and equipment to keep our watch and perform our expected tasks to help safeguard the boating public. Division 26 Human Resource Flotilla Staff Offices reported the following activities and membership trends. Susan L Warren FSO-HR No recruiting activities tool place over the winter months. Prospective member Betty Magulski s application was returned to us from DSO-HR Mark Villeneuve for corrections. Corrections were made and it was re-submitted 26 April Although nothing concrete has been arranged, we are hoping to incorporate some recruiting activities this summer through local groups, classes, and VSC activities. Donald G Burke FSO-HR New Members Flotilla 26-03: Russell Lindsey-Security Clearance has been received Gary Rapelje-Paperwork completed and ready for submission Terry Miller-Currently in the initial process of familiarization and paperwork completion Dropped Members: Frederick A. 2 Robert C. Wertz FC Flotilla is in the midst of our Spring Boater Safety Class with 10 students enrolled in America s Boating Course. We did loose 2 members during the last year and have had a number of members struggling with health issues. Happily these same members have improved and we are pleased to back aiding in our activities. Eugene Skelton FSO-HR The FSO-HR report for Flotilla 26-08: Two new members have been recruited and they are currently in AP Status. SO-INFORMATION SERVICES All missions have been entered. I recently sent flotilla reports to all the FC mid April. I will send new reports out shortly. Be sure you review the reports for competency status. 3 MEMBER TRAINING 26-03: The 1 hour TCT refresher is scheduled for 24may. One crew candidate is in need of the 8 hour TCT class and three individuals will need QE check rides this year. We are putting together training on search patterns which will be given to county marine patrol officers this month, with plans to extend the training to township fire and rescue personnel who also have occasion to participate in searches on inland lakes in Roscommon County : Flotilla conducted an Aux Weather class for 4 members; we are awaiting results of the exams. Boat crew training is underway, with 1 member achieving re-certification as a 25 RBS crewman. One member is training as coxswain on the 25 RBS. Two new members are beginning boat crew training. The 8 hour TCT class was conducted in March, as was the 1 hour refresher for those members needing it. CPR/First Aid/AED training is scheduled to be accomplished in May : Flotilla completed a two hour boat operations and navigation workshop and a one hour TCT refresher for all Coxswains and Crewmembers this past month : Flotilla has completed 12 weeks/2 hours per session of the desktop instruction for new crew. We currently have 4 members who have completed the 12 weeks. We will begin on-the -water training May 14 for 5 members. We will be going out twice a week for the weeks of May 14, 21, and 28. All 5 members intend to attend the Charlevoix Boat School. On May 1, we conducted the TCT 1 Hour Refresher Workshop. Our Air OP's, half of the flotilla, are attending a day-long fly-in workshop/briefing on May 5. Dennis Duford SO-MT Div 26 SO-NAVIGATION SERVICES We do not have an ATON list yet. 4 SO- OPERATIONS LEO FIX No surface OPS activities to report. I completed a database spreadsheet showing all Div 26 operation assets including coxswains, crew, FSO-OPs, QEs, and facilities along with contact information. Copies were sent to all FSO-OPs and FCs. Requests for a copy and update information should be sent to me at lfix@torchlake.com. The Coast Guard has decided that, beginning no later than next year, all coxswains must use the POMS system to request patrol orders. Therefore, it will be necessary for those coxswains, not currently using POMS, to get access to and up to speed on using the program. A 133 page slideshow describing in detail how to download and use POMS is available at I requested the FSO-OPs to do a survey and identify those coxswains in Division 26 not currently using POMS. I only received two responses and of the seven coxswains in those two flotillas none are currently using POMS on their own. I believe that this will be a major issue with most flotillas. I recommend that all facility owners, if they are not currently doing so, switch to a late fall schedule to have their facilities inspected and offered up. The offering of a facility is only good for 12 months past the acceptance date. If a facility is inspected and offered at any time during the season, there could be a delay between the time the facility is ready for operation and the time when orders can be obtained. Leo E. 5 SO-PUBLIC AFFAIRS SCOTT CHESLEY Here are following Public Affairs reports that I have received, as of this morning, for the Division Meeting Charlevoix TC BOAT SHOW - Members of attended the TC Boat Show to assist with the booth at the show. Most reported the show was not as busy as in past years. BOYNE YACHT CLUB PRESENTATION - May 8th from 6:30-8:00p.m. Active USCG will have the '41 at the Boyne dock for yacht club members to see. This is event is serving as both a safety/vessel check reminder as well as a recruiting mission. SAFE BOATING WEEK EVENT - May 24th from 4p.m. - 7p.m. at Charlevoix Park, Planning on CG '41 being there as well as an aux vessel. Booth will have Safe Boating information to hand out to people who are in the park that day for the Annual Charlevoix Petunia Planting. There is a picnic following the planting in the park where we expect people. Contacting media to promote the event. CHARLEVOIX YACHT CLUB PRESENTATION - May 25th from 6p.m. - 9p.m. Similar to the Boyne presentation, primarily recruiting mission. Higgins Lake State Park, the Roscommon County Pilots Dawn Patrol fly-in breakfast, the Ausable River Fest, the Bud Bash, and the Firemen Memorial Fest. Our annual Spaghetti Fund Raiser will be held on September the 19th. this year. 6 SO- PUBLIC EDUCATION LAVONNE BAUER I realize that all of us are being handed changes coming down faster than we feel we can handle sometimes, but there are reasons and we must adjust to change as it comes. A while back it was passed down that intent to teach forms (7023) be sent directly to the DSO-PE to be posted on the web site and at that time it was not brought out that your SO-PEs were also to receive them at that time so that they would be able to do necessary reports for their divisions and district. We are now asked to also report on classes after they have been taught with time, place, number of students, how many completed course, how many passed course, number of adults in class and number of children. What the SOs are now going to need is to be copied on the activity mission report so that they can report these figures to the DSO-PE. I have sent out a request asking for copies of these mission reports so I can forward this information on to the DSO, and so far I have only received two out of the eleven flotillas in our division. If your flotilla has not taught a class in the first quarter of the year, please have your FSO- PE forward that information to me. If your flotilla has no FSO-PE, then remember any unassigned staff position is then filled by your FC. For instructors who did not attend the PE workshop at Spring Conference I have sent FSO-PEs the way to access this power point presentation. If you have any problems or questions regarding this please contact me. In addition, please remember that one of the primary obligations of the auxiliary is public education and that education can save lives. Flotilla Jim Ketchum has again been asked to present the BS&S to the new employees of the DNR which he has done twice before for them. Flotilla will be doing the BS&S starting April 24 th to May 22 nd and they have two more classes in planning stage. Flotilla is planning to teach the ABS end of April and first weekend of May. Flotilla is anticipating teaching the Weekend Navigator Starting in May. Flotilla has four classes and are using the handouts that were online by Pat Groves, DSO-PE that they are passing out at their Boat Show weekend of th. Classes are GPS, Paddle Craft Safety, Navigational charting and ABS I am hoping that some of the flotillas that I have not yet heard from may have classes in the planning stage. 6

7 SO-PROGRAM VISITOR CHARLES FELDMAN It appears that many of our flotillas are not focusing any attention on their program partners. Empty racks draw foreign material that is not sanctioned by the Coast Guard. Four of our flotillas have begun contacting their partners this year. Twin Bay leads the division with 43 visit followed by Alpena, Roscommon, and Sault Ste Marie. Roscommon s vessel examiners have requested that the program visitors distribute the new vessel exam posters to select businesses. Chuck Feldman 7
