Senior Staff held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, December 11 th, at The Civil Service Commission held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 11 th at Auburn City Hall. The Finance Committee and Board of Governance held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, December 11 th at Administrator Robertson attended the South King County Leadership meeting on Wednesday, December 12 th in Auburn. IT Manager Smith attended the Valley Communications Center (VCC) Technology Users Group meeting on Wednesday, December 12 th at VCC. VRFA staff attended Mayor Backus Holiday Open House on Wednesday, December 12 th in Auburn. The monthly Command Staff meeting was held on Thursday, December 13 th at EMC Yancey attended the City of Auburn Community Emergency Management meeting on Thursday, December 13 th in Auburn. 1
2 Administrator Robertson attended the Washington Fire Chiefs Legislative Committee meeting on Thursday, December 13 th in Olympia. EMC Yancey attended the Regional Hazard Mitigation Planning Workshop on Thursday, December 13 th in Renton. This Week: Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, December 18 th, at DC s Swearingen & Olson will attend the King County Fire Chiefs meeting on Wednesday, December 19 th in Seattle. The State Auditor s Office will conclude their annual financial and accountability audit on Wednesday, December 19 th at DC Olson & Captain Kuzaro will attend the King County EMS Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday, December 19 th in Seattle. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Monday, December 10 th at 2:00 p.m., firefighters responded to a four vehicle accident. An adult male and adult female were transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC) by private ambulance. An additional adult male was transported by VRFA personnel to MAMC. Service Call: (Pacific) On Tuesday, December 11 th at 10:56 a.m., firefighters responded to a tree across the roadway. The crew found a 100 foot tree that came down across the road and damaged some power lines. The crew cut the tree up, assisted Pacific Public Works with loading it up, and called PSE to fix the power lines. Aid Call: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, December 12 th at 8:56 a.m., firefighters responded to an adult female with imminent child birth. Firefighters and King County Medics delivered a healthy baby girl. After determining that mom, dad, and baby were good, the patient was transported to Valley Medical Center via a VRFA aid car. CPR: (Auburn) On Thursday, December 13 th at 12:29 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics were dispatched to an adult female in cardiac arrest. Firefighters arrived on scene and began CPR. Firefighters and King County 2
3 Medics worked on the patient on scene. The patient s heart began to beat on its own. The patient was transported to MAMC by King County Medics. Patient Assist: (Lakeland Hills) On Friday, December 14 th at 3:00 a.m., firefighters assisted an elderly female that had slipped and fallen to the floor and was unable to get up. Personnel lifted the patient up and placed her back in her chair, after making sure she was not injured she was left at home with her daughter. Aid Call: (Auburn) On Sunday, December 16 th at 12:16 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics were dispatched to an elderly female experiencing chest pain. Firefighters and King County Medics evaluated the patient on scene. The patient was transported to MAMC by private ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Training Division Activities: Year Weekly Year to Date 23,738 25,392 Block 6 - Blue Card Simulation Training: Company officers and firefighters from South King County Fire Training Consortium departments were ran through a tactical simulation. This fire simulation ran fire companies through 3 story townhouse apartment building fire. The company officers could plan and assign tactical objectives to multiple crews and using computer simulation software were able to manage a fire incident with multiple companies. This planning is beneficial in running through this type of incident and practicing communications that allows us to prepare for the real event. These simulations will be held in multiple training rooms throughout the region. JATC Testing: VRFA firefighters who are in the Joint Apprenticeship Training program will be evaluated at their annual step test. They must complete a written test and then also show proficiency in a practice assessment. This is proctored by the South King County Training Consortium and VRFA apprenticeship team members. All apprentice passed all portions of the test. Fire Marshal s Office Business Fire & Life Safety Inspections: Total Annual Fire & Life Safety Inspections completed this week: 12 Inspections completed by Certified Fire Inspectors this week: 2 Inspections completed by Company Level staff this week: 10 New Business Licenses entered into the system: 3
4 Business Re-inspections completed: Pre-Application Meetings: Pre-Application meetings completed this week: 2 Pre-Application Reviews: Pre-Application Reviews completed this week: 3 Construction Inspections: Construction Inspections completed this week: 1 Land Use & Plan Reviews: Land Use Plan Reviews completed this week: 9 Construction Plan Reviews completed this week: 4 Training: FMO staff attended the monthly 2 hour Hazardous Materials and International Codes webinar sponsored by UW Department of Environmental Health and Sciences Department. This month s training focused on Exiting and Explosions and Ammonia Nitrate Fire Investigations: There were no fire investigations during this reporting period. Public Education PIEO staff met via conference call with the new Fire Watch and Annual Report graphic designer, Heather Graves with Mountain to Sea Creative. She will be submitting two designs for the upcoming February edition of the Fire Watch. PIEO staff began working on stories for the February edition of the Fire Watch. PIEO staff continued working on content for the website redesign. Posts were made to social media sites regarding call volume, Christmas tree safety, candle safety, the delivery of a baby girl by VRFA crews and King County Medics and emergency alert systems in King and Pierce County. Planning and Logistics P&L received 1 apparatus and 4 facility/small tool maintenance requests. 4
5 BC Larberg and Captain Freed traveled to Appleton, WI for the final inspection for the new fire pumper. The engine is expected to be delivered in approximately two weeks. Emission testing was conducted on selected fire apparatus. Windows were cleaned at all stations. Gutters were cleaned at station 32, 33, and 34. 5
