3 JULY 2018 Bidding Goodbye!! Air Vice Marshal V Rajhans, took over as Commandant MILIT, Pune, from Maj Gen AK Sapra on 01 July Commissioned in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) Branch of the Indian Air Force on 20 Aug 1984, Air Vice Marshal V Rajhans is a M Tech in Systems and Controls from IIT Powai. Rapt Attention - Informative address by Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC, to the senior Military and Civil officers (consisting of several foreign military officers), at the prestigious National Defence College, Delhi on 04 July 2018, on 'Jointmanship in Indian Context: Prospects and Prognosis. It ended with active participation by the emerging leaders.

5 Two day Seminar ( July 2018) on 'India & Security Challenges in Indo-Pacific in the New Era', was organised jointly by the Forum for Strat Initiatives and Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung in collaboration with CLAWS. Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC, delivered the Keynote Address highlighting India's goals for shared development & prosperity and the nuances of managing the challenges to security in the region to arrive at policy options for India. Maj Gen John M Jansen, Commandant US Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy conducted a Net Assessment Workshop for officers of Higher Defence Management Course at CDM on 12 July 2018.

6 'Global Dialogue Security Summit' at Hotel Leela Palace, New Delhi on 'Securing India's Neighbourhood' on July. Lt Gen Satish Dua chaired the 1st brainstorming session on 'Changing Nature of Warfare due to Technological Transformation' Dr Christine Fair, renowned political scientist, delivered a talk on "Rationality in Irrational Behaviour of Pakistan and Options for India" to the Tri-Services officers attending HDMC at CDM on 17 July 18.

9 AUGUST 2018 Indo - US Military Cooperation Meeting (MCG) Powering Ahead Together. The 17th MCG between India and US was held on 01st and 02nd Aug 18 at Manekshaw Convention Centre, Delhi Cantt under the aegis of HQ IDS, as a prelude to the historic 2+2 Apex Meeting between India & US scheduled in September The meeting was co-chaired by Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC and Lt Gen Bryan P Fenton, Deputy Commander of US Indo - Pacific Command.

10 Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC visited CDM on 09 Aug 18 and interacted with the future leaders of the three Services & foreign defence officers undergoing HDMC. CISC traced the evolution of Jointmanship, outlined it's current status & prospects & gave out his prognosis to the audience. Lt Gen PJS Pannu, DCIDS (DOT)/ HQ IDS, inaugurated a Conclave on Catalysing Start Up Ecosystem through Academia Industry Collaborations, at BITS PILANI, Goa Campus on 18 Aug 18.

11 KERALA FLOODS Army, Navy, Airforce & Coast Guard responded with alacrity to the enormous calamity that struck Kerala, with excellent support from the State Govt, NDRF & all other stakeholders. HQ IDS played a pivotal role in synergising the joint effort.

12 SCO EXERCISE : PEACE MISSION 2018 Held at Chebarkul, Chelyabinsk, Russia from Aug soldiers from eight SCO member countries incl Pak & India (with a 200 member Contingent of Army & Airforce), participated in the Biennial SCO Ex.

13 Apart from the Military Anti terror exercises, about 8 different sports competitions were also held. Indian Contingent won the second position in Sports after the Host country Russia. Indian Contingent won the finals against Pakistan in the Volleyball Tournament- majorly cheered by the Russian Contingent. Indian contingent reciprocated by rooting for the Russian team against China in another event.

14 The SCO was established in Shanghai in 2001, with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as founding members. The Peace Mission 2018 held from Aug 18, created a historic chance for four major military powers in Eurasia - China, Russia, Pakistan and India, to participate in the same military drill. After attending the Biennial Chief of General Staff Meeting of SCO Member Countries on 28 Aug 18, Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC attended the final phase of SCO Ex PEACE MISSION 2018 at Cherbakul, Russia.

15 TRI - SERVICES AFFILIATION Red Letter Day. On 02 Aug 18, INS Kochi, 51 Squadron IAF & JAK LI Regiment instituted together their affiliation with each other at the JAK LI Regimental Centre, Srinagar. Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, FOC in-c Western Naval Command, Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC & Col of JAK LI Regiment, Air Vice Marshal Sanjay Nimesh, AOC J&K witnessed the historic ceremony. Later, INS Kochi & JAK LI Regiment affirmed their recently instituted affiliation with each other at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. (Sep 18)

16 SEPTEMBER 2018 Think Tanks - Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) of HQ IDS & South Asia Defence Strategic Review jointly conducted a seminar on 'Social Media and the Armed Forces' at the DRDO Auditorium on 04 Sep 18. Lt Gen Satish Dua. CISC delivered the Inaugural Address at the event. Captive Audience - Addressing Gunner officers across the seniority spectrum on 08 Sep 18, at the School of Artillery, Devlali, Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC elucidated the current status of Jointness amongst Indian Army, Indian Navy & Indian Airforce, it's prospect & possibilities.

17 On 10 Sep 18, Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC addressed 2-Star officers of Army, Navy & Air Force and MoD, MEA & MHA Officers attending Combined Operational Review & Evaluation Programme at Army War College, Mhow on the subject of 'Proposed Revamp - National Security Architecture: DPC & Allied Initiatives'. Dr Subhash R Bhamre, Hon'ble Rajya Raksha Mantri visited National Defence Academy, Pune on 15 Sep 18 & took part in the Swachhta Pakhwara as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Rear Admiral SK Grewal, Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor, NDA accompanied the minister during the conduct of the event.

18 IDU (DOT Branch) sets rolling. A three days training workshop on Artificial Intelligence was conducted from Sep 18 at New Delhi under the aegis of HQ IDS by its Dte of Indian Defence University (IDU), facilitated by Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune. A total of 80 offrs, including selected senior and middle level offrs from Services HQs, HQ IDS and AFTIs, involved in policy formulation on AI & it s implementation framework attended the workshop.

19 Lt Gen NUMMW Senanayake RWP RSP USP USACGSC, Commander of Sri Lankan Army visited CDM on 18 Sep 18. The visit was aimed to improve knowledge sharing & cooperation between the two nations. Currently 02 Sri Lankan officers are undergoing the HDMC Course. 14th DITCC meeting chaired by Hon'ble RRM Dr Subhash Bhamre was held under the aegis of HQ IDS on 19 Sep 18 to synergize and steer directions on IT matters in the three Services and MoD. CISC who is the Vice Chair of the Forum, highlighted the importance of utilising ICT as a force multiplier for the Defence Services to ensure enhanced efficiency, faster decision making and promptness in response.

20 JOINT TELEMEDICINE PROJECT - HQ IDS & ISRO Linking forward/ remote locations of Army, Navy & Air Force with the superspeciality hospitals in cities On 20 Sep 18, Lt Gen Satish Dua, CISC interacted with ISRO Scientists involved in the Telemedicine Project. CISC also felicitated Mr Virender Kumar with the CISC Commendation Card for his dedicated efforts towards the project. SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES History: SFL was established by the Ministry of Defence in 1948 with the aim of imparting training in various foreign languages to pers of Armed Forces & Govt. departments like MEA, Cabinet Sectt, Central Police Organisations eg. BSF, CRPF, ITBP etc. The Institute was granted Permanent status in the year Finally, in its current revamped Avataar, the functional & administrative control of SFL was transferred from JS (Est/Trg) & CAO/ MoD to HQ IDS (DOT Branch) on 04 May 17.
