Major Crimes Division, Special Crimes Bureau, September 2008 to July 2010 Same duties in Gang/ROP Bureau (below), but prosecution focused on violent home invasions and kidnappings, as well as violent drophouses. Worked primarily with Home Invasion and Kidnapping Enforcement (HIKE) Squad of the Phoenix Police Department. Assisted with large investigation into home invasion crews, focusing on those that dressed and announced as police officers. Worked with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents regarding violent drophouses, as well as having foreign nationals appear for testimony at trial. Major Crimes Division, Gang/Repeat Offender Program (ROP) Bureau, March 2003 to September 2008 Same duties in Trial Division, but cases more complex in Major Crimes Division. Targeted prosecution of documented gang members and defendants that have been classified as Repeat Offenders by the various police departments. Prepared cases for trial. Extended plea offers, if appropriate, based on policy, facts of case, criminal history of defendants, harm to victim, and risk to community. Prepared and responded to motions on various legal issues. Argued motions and represented the State in evidentiary hearings prior to trial. Communicated with victims, witnesses, and police officers throughout pendency of case. Represented the State in presenting cases to the trier of fact. Presented sentencing recommendations to Court. Cases included crimes related to drugs, burglary, theft, weapons, kidnapping, robbery, forgery, and violent offenses including shootings, stabbings, assaults, attempted murder, and homicide. Worked with law enforcement in various investigations, assisted with legal issues, and participated in ridealongs and call-out when needed. Assigned as liaison with gang detectives in Tempe. Attended multiagency meetings with gang detectives, jail intelligence officers, probation and parole officers, and sheriff's deputies regarding current gang-related issues. Attended trainings locally and nationally on various legal issues, including state's annual prosecutor conference.
