Major Cases & Investigative Events Agency assist - homicide: On the evening of February 5, officers responded to the Desert Beach area to assist PSCO with a call of a male subject shooting at another. Officers assisted PSCO by searching the area for suspects with negative results. About 30 minutes later, officers responded to the area of the Galloping Goose in reference to a person that had been shot. When officers Page 2 of 16

3 arrived, they found two victims in a vehicle in the 400 block of Martin Road. A male subject (driver) had been shot in the right forearm and his girlfriend (front seat passenger) had been shot twice in the back. The female subject, (who was seven months pregnant) was transported to the hospital, where she died. The hospital was able to save the child during emergency surgery, but he died several days later. The male victim was transported to a Phoenix hospital for treatment. The suspects were identified and one was arrested later in the day. The second suspect was later arrested by the Sheriff s Office, who continues investigation into the incident. Robbery/assault: On the evening of February 18, officers responded to 221 South Main Street in reference to a reported assault and robbery. The victim was drinking inside of the bar and a black male subject approached him and asked him if he gave him twenty dollars, he would allow him to have sex with his girlfriend. The victim told him he did not want to have sex with her. Three subjects targeted the victim and assaulted and stole his money and wallet in front of the bar. All these events were caught on video tape, but the identities of suspects were unclear at first viewing. Detective Collazo was assigned to the investigation. With the combined effort of Detective Collazo and Officer Thomas, they were able to identify and locate the suspects, who were later arrested and charged accordingly. Human smuggling: On the evening of February 28, Officer Hoffman observed a tan Dodge Caravan traveling in the area of Skousen and Vah Ki Inn Roads and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. As he attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle slowed, but did not stop and several subjects in the van began to move around towards the side doors. The van then sped up and began to into a farm field where it cam to a stop. When the van stopped, several subjects exited the vehicle and begin to run. Officer Hoffman requested other units and Border Patrol to assist. Two female subjects with a child and two males were taken into custody immediately. Officers located four additional subjects, all of whom were turned over to Border Patrol agents. The van was taken to the Coolidge Police Department pending forfeiture. Kidnapping: On the night of February 28, officers were dispatched to the area of 100 block of Coolidge Avenue in reference to a female subject who was taken away in a car at gunpoint by her husband. Multiple patrol units and one officer made contact with the victim and other units detained two suspects. The victim had been pushed out of the car while it was still moving and the suspects attempted to flee the area. Detective De La Rosa responded and took over the investigation. Both suspects were booked and charged accordingly. Page 3 of 16
