1 SavannahSteamer Founded May 15, 1957 Volume 45 Issue SAVANNAH NAVY LEAGUE CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT The first annual Savannah Navy League Classic Golf Tournament was a rousing success, thanks to the incredible efforts of Joe Tillman, Tournament Chairman. Joe initiated the idea, followed through with organizing it, and conducted the event on tournament day. His efforts resulted in ten (10 1/2) military teams (42 players) being sponsored so they could play in the tournament at no cost to them. This is the kind of support for our military that sets Savannah Navy League apart from most councils. The tournament was held on Friday May 25 th at Cross Winds Golf Club. We had 19 teams playing, 10 ½ were military teams: USCG MSU 1 team USCG Station Tybee 1 team USCG Air Station 2 ½ teams USS Alaska (SSBN 732) 2 teams USS Little Rock GOLD (LCS 9) 1 team Georgia Air National Guard 1 team U.S. Army S.O.A.R. 1 team USMC Reserve Marine Landing 1 team 1 st place team was taken by USCG Station Tybee, 2 nd place was taken by the Georgia Air National Guard, 3 rd place by U.S. Mechanical. Closest to the pin on # 11 was Adam Lorentz, USCG Station Tybee, Closest to the pin on # 3 was Max Posateri, U.S. Army S.O.A.R., Longest Drive Men - Trent Williams, USCG Station Tybee, Longest Drive Women - Toni Powell, USCG MSU Because of Joe Tillman s leadership and many hours of work by the Savannah Navy League members, we cleared $ 5, for future support of our local sea services.
