2 May No Soldier Go Unloved Be a Part of the Legacy In 2003, Patti Patton-Bader founded Soldiers Angels when her oldest son, Staff Sergeant Brandon Varn, was deployed to Iraq. Her son made comments that he was one of the few soldiers receiving care packages. Patti gathered some friends and neighbors and they began sending care packages to his whole platoon. More and more requests for help came from soldiers, from combat hospitals, from the families of America s warriors. Patti and her band of friends came to the realization that more had to be done and could be done. They knew that there were many Americans who wanted to support the troops. Using technology, Patti built a system to match needs of deployed service members with people back home who wanted to send care packages. Within just a few months, Soldiers Angels went from a dedicated mother sending a few extra care packages and letters, to an Internet community with thousands of Angels worldwide. 1

From Grassroots to National Headlines With more and more merchants donating services, money, and items for care packages, Soldiers Angels reorganized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Forgotten, Until They All Come Home. Patti and Soldiers Angels have been recognized for service to our military, their families, and our country many, many times.

Soldiers Angels continued to grow and soon there were thousands and thousands of volunteers dedicated to a powerful vision: May No Soldier Go Unloved, May No Soldier Walk Alone, May No Soldier Be Forgotten, Until They All Come Home. Patti and Soldiers Angels have been recognized for service to our military, their families, and our country many, many times. Some of the awards received include: Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service from the Department of the Army George Washington Spirit Award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart Microsoft Above and Beyond Extra Effort Award James C. Van Zandt Citizenship Award from the VFW The Spirit of Hope Award from the Secretary of Defense In 2008, in a nationwide vote on NBC (hosted by Donny and Marie Osmond), Patti was honored on the 100 th anniversary of Mother s Day as America s Favorite Mom. Patti donated the $250,000 grand prize to Soldiers Angels. 2

The Breakdown To celebrate 15 years of support, we are challenging our supporters to help us pack 15,000 care items in just 15 hours. Deployed: Care Packages Honoring the original intent of the organization, we will be packaging 5,000 care packages that will be shipped to deployed service members around the world. Veterans: Hygiene Kits Hygiene Kits are distributed during patient visits at all of the nearly 40 VA Hospitals we serve across the country. Veterans: Box Lunches Box Lunches are provided to VA case workers for veteran patients who may not know where their next meal is coming from. The box of nonperishables is often the only meal that veteran will have on that day. The Day of the Deployed is a National holiday founded by Soldiers Angels to honor all of the brave men and women who have been deployed and are sacrificing, or have sacrificed, their lives to fight for our country. It s also a day that acknowledges the families they are separated from. Soldiers Angels founded this holiday to further support our vision: May No Soldier Go Unloved. Sponsorships are an incredibly important element of this event and will ultimately help us accomplish our goal. Care Packages $70 each Care Packages require the largest investment. Utilizing USPS Flat Rate Mailing Boxes, items include: snacks, hygiene products, games, comfort items (socks, hats, etc.), books, magazines, DVDs, etc. The cost to ship one box is also factored in. To accomplish our goal of packing 5,000 Care Packages, we need a total of: $350,000 Hygiene Kits $15 each Hygiene Kits include: shampoo, conditioner, razors, body wash, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, hand sanitizer/anti-bacterial wipes, floss, lip balm, toothbrush, comb. To accomplish our goal of packing 5,000 Hygiene Kits, we need a total of: $75,000 Box Lunches $15 each Box Lunches include: bottled water, single serve powdered drink mix, ready-to-eat tuna or chicken salad kit, granola bar/cereal bar, fruit cup or squeeze fruit, crackers, trail mix, raisins, fruit snacks, beef jerky, utensil kit, anti-bacterial wipe.
