1 2 nd NORTH CAROLINA REGIMENT Young Marines 3 rd Division Young Marines From: Regimental Commander 1000 GR:gr April 1, 2016 Subj: LETTER OF INSTRUCTION, REGIMENTAL DRILL COMPETITION, APRIL 23, 2016 Encl: (1) Drill Competition Guidelines (2) Drill Evaluation Sheets (3) Practice Drill Card 1. SITUATION: The Regiment will host a drill competition on Saturday April 23, 2016, hours at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 2831 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC. 2. MISSION: To build Esprit de Corps within the Regiment as well as enable Young Marines of the Regiment the opportunity to build confidence as a team and develop as a unit by participating in competition. 3. EXECUTION: Participating units will provide at a minimum, one drill team in one of the following categories; 1) Squad, 2) Platoon, and 3) Color Guard. Units are not restricted to just one category. 4. ADMIN/LOGISTICS: a. Admin. Each unit will prepare their Young Marines, through proper training. Using the prescribed methods utilized in the Training Officer s manual (TOM) pertaining to squad and platoon level drill. cover. b. Uniform. Official Young Marine uniform, ribbons, white t shirt, black boots, c. Equipment. Each unit will bring their guidon and color guard equipment. d. Meal. A pizza meal will be provided by the regiment at the conclusion of the day s event. 5. COMMAND/SIGNAL: Points of contact. 2 DRILL COMPETITION GUIDELINES 1. Team Composition: a. Squad will be comprised of 8 Young Marines, Drill Commander, Squad Leader, 2 Team leaders, 4 Team Members, there will be no guide for squad competition. The age of the Young Marines should be evenly spread throughout the squad, 8 11; 12 14; All movements have to be completed within the designated area. b. Platoon will be comprised of 23 Young marines, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Guide, 3 Squad Leaders, 6 Team Leaders, and 12 Team Members. The age of the Young Marines should be evenly spread throughout the squad, 8 11; 12 14; All movements have to be completed within the designated area. c. Color Guard will be comprised of 4 Young Marines, 2 Flag bearers, 2 Riflemen. One member of the Color Guard will act as the Color Sergeant. All movements have to be completed within the designated area. 2. Awards: The Regiment will issue trophies to the top three units in each category. 3. Officiating: Each competition will be evaluated by a panel of three registered adults selected from the units in attendance, or by guest evaluators. Evaluators will be using enclosure (1). The evaluators will have the final call on any questions or complaints. Unit commanders will not serve as evaluators of their own unit. Unit commanders will refrain from any type of help, other than moral support, during the competition. In some instances, coaching and/or further explanation of the event may be acceptable. And will be accomplished by the Regimental Commander. 4. Team Captains: The highest ranking Young Marine or YM chosen by the unit commander, from each Unit will serve as the Team Captain for this event. Any questions the evaluators may have will be directed to the Team Captain. The Team Captains are responsible for the conduct of their respective teams. 5. Sportsmanship: There will be no arguing or displays of poor sportsmanship. Any displays of the above will result in team disqualification. There are no winners and losers in this competition. 6. Scoring: See enclosure (1). After each category is scored, all scores from each evaluator will be totaled and passed to the competition adjutant. Encl (1)
