9 Who are our members and partners? MOIG Membership is comprised of petroleum industry companies and associations having international operations or interests, mainly located in the Mediterranean region, Company Members e.g. Total, Eni S.p.A, Shell, PetroCanada, SAMIR, Serept, Lundin,etc. Association Members e.g. Unione Petrolefera- Italy, PIEPC-Egypt Associated Members: : Oil Spill Response Service Companies and manufacturers MOIG Technical Partners are from the international oil spill response community and include organisations such as CEDRE, ITOPF, ICRAM and the oil industry cooperatives such as FOST, Oil Spill Response.

11 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE From , more than 130 representatives from Oil Companies working in Mediterranean Countries have attended about 20 MOIG Sessions which have been organised in that period. 16 Workshop on Integration of Emergency Plans in Malta There have been improvements in regional arrangements due to MOIG activities. Although many Mediterranean countries have ratified the IMO OPRC 90 Convention, implementation remains an issue. Workshop held in May 2007 between REMPEC Focal Points and MOIG members. The workshop was a success and important recommendations: - Organise joint MOIG/REMPEC workshop - Organise joint Training for Government and Industry Representatives
17 Activities for 2009 Joint MOIG/REMPEC Workshop in Marseille May to: Strengthen cooperation between governments and industry in the Mediterranean region; and Provide recommendations for short/medium and long term activities to increase the preparedness and response capacity in the Mediterranean.
18 Activities for 2009 Preparatory work for workshop: Questionnaires sent out to industry and government in the Med by MOIG and REMPEC to obtain information on preparedness, response and cooperation arrangements in the region. Based on the results of the questionnaires, issues for discussion during the workshop have been identified. Individual interviews with a consultant have been arranged for each country to encourage an exchange of information and views on preparedness and response issues.

39 Conclusions The Mediterranean Sea has a high oil spill risk profile. Cooperation between the oil industry and governments operating in the region is essential. MOIG working in collaboration with REMPEC and other partners, aims to improve the capacity of countries in the Mediterranean region to prepare for and respond to oil spills.
