7 Progress Towards Development of Information Societies Countries in the region are at various stages of the development and implementation of national ICT plans & strategies Trinidad and Tobago, first plan in 2003, with reviews in 2005, 2006 and 2008 Jamaica, first plan in 2000 with reviews in 2002/3 and 2006/7 Antigua & Barbuda, implementing Connect Antigua and Barbuda initiatives Almost all regional governments have an official web presence Based on the UN classification of government websites 68% are at or above the enhanced classification 7
8 Investment in ICT and Development Linkages Regional governments have bought into the notion that deployment and effective use of ICT can enhance opportunities for human and economic development There are hundreds of ICT initiatives taking place across the region Antigua & Barbuda Go Live with Island Wi-Fi (mobile computer and internet centers provide access to public school students) Caribbean s Youth Poverty Alleviation through Tourism and Heritage project Caribbean Regional Emergency Operations Centre Information Systems Project 8
