1 SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION The Greater Houston Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association Charitable Foundation will announce the awarding of their group of Dan Ledermann Memorial scholarships at the Annual Barbecue and general membership meeting in May, Forty plus scholarships have been awarded annually in the amount of $1,000. Number of scholarships awarded is based on amount of donations received. Applications are available through GHLBMDA members or through LAT. The purpose of the Dan Ledermann Memorial Scholarship fund is to grant educational scholarships to deserving individuals whose families are associated with the Houston Area Lumber and Building Material Industry and the Lumbermen s Association of Texas. The scholarships are meant to promote giving back to our local industry. GHLBMDA members will distribute and oversee the paperwork involved with the applications. The following requirements for the GHLBMDA/LAT sponsor to follow have been set by the Board of Trustees: A) The applicant s parent or legal guardian must have been employed in the building products industry in the local area for a minimum of two years. B) The applicant is planning to attend a state accredited college or university with a focused degree plan. C) The individual applicant must be pursuing a full-time student classification of at least 12 hours per semester. D) The applicant must submit the application before February 28, 2017 to a GHLBMDA sponsor member OR to the LAT office for member verification. The following requirements for the applicant have been set by the Board of Trustees: A) All scholarships will be applied for and presented on an annual basis. B) IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must fill out and turn in all required paperwork even when reapplying to qualify for scholarship. Any omission is reason for disqualification. C) The recipient of the scholarship will be required to maintain a passing grade point average. D) MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY TO APPLY. IF ANY REQUIREMENT OR QUESTION IS NOT ANSWERED, THIS CAN BE REASON FOR DISQUALIFICATION. E) Must be U.S. citizen to apply. The selection committee will begin reviewing applications March of The selection committee will base its decision on the applicant s academic ability, need, individual accomplishments, goals and career objectives. The scholarship will be for $1,000 for one year based on $500 per semester paid directly to the college or university. Any member, individual, or business wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Dan Ledermann Scholarship Fund should contact any one of the board or committee members. Any additional funds contributed prior to December 31, 2016 will enhance this coming year s awards. 5 Scholarships available from the Dan Ledermann Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarships are available each year for the Fall and Spring semesters through the GHLBMDA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION, INC. The Dan Ledermann Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to benefit deserving students whose parents are in the Building Materials Industry in Texas.
