1 SCHOLARSHIPS March 2015 This is a summary of the most recent scholarships sent to the Guidance Office. Be sure to check with the post-secondary school you plan to attend for additional scholarship opportunities. Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship Program Minimum combined SAT of 1650 or ACT of 24 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.00 scale Must be accepted and plan to attend full-time at Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana University Northwest, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Purdue University West Lafayette, Purdue Calumet or Ball State University Open to qualified seniors graduating from Lake, Newton, Porter or Jasper county high schools, based on academic excellence, school and community involvement, potential for future success and an expressed interest in returning to Northwest Indiana 4-year tuition scholarships ranging from $500 to $3500 per undergraduate semester Submit completed application to the Guidance Office by March 1, 2015 Apply online at Kohl s Cares Scholarship Program Any student age 6-18 and not yet a HS graduate who has volunteered in their community helping to make it a better place to live Describe actions in detail and document efforts above and beyond what is expected of a child his or her age; volunteer efforts must have occurred in the last year Winners are chosen based on project, benefits and outcome 1

2 Store winners receive a $50 gift card, regional winners receive a $1000 scholarship for postsecondary education and national winners receive $10,000 scholarships and a $1000 donation to the non-profit organization of their choice March 13, 2015 Must be nominated by an individual 21 years or older; see details online at: Carolyn B. Mosby Scholarship Open to HS students in Lake County with a minimum 3.5 GPA who have been accepted into a four-year college, must submit a transcript and eassay that describes your life experiences and aspirations and why this scholarship would assist you in achieving your goals. Mosby was the first African American employed by NIPSCO and NIPSCO along with the Urban League of Northwest Indiana will interview and select the award winners See the Urban League of Northwest Indiana website for several other scholarships open to Lake County residents Urban League of Northwest Indiana sponsors various awards such as: Sheriff John Buncich Scholarship Eloise Gentry Scholarship Dr. Mary Steele-Agee Scholarship SMDG LLC Technology Scholarship Horizon Bank Minority Scholarship Most of these awards require graduating HS seniors from Northwest Indiana have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and have participated in extracurricular, community and volunteer activities 2

Bennett Memorial Scholarship student accepted in Construction Engnr and Mgmt Tech at Purdue Calumet or Purdue North Central, must maintain a 3.0 GPA Complete one common application, most are based on an essay about your goals and needs, transcript and SAT/ACT scores; some awards may have additional requirements Varies by scholarship March 20, 2015 Applications must be submitted online at 3

4 The 2015 Power of Children Awards Indiana residents in grades 6-11, must be nominated based on a project where the student has made a significant impact on the lives of other, demonstrated selflessness and exhibited a commitment to service and the betterment of society Four to six winners sponsored by the Children s Museum of Indianapolis A $2000 grant to further the recipient s work and a partial 4-yr. post-secondary scholarship at a participating Indiana school along with recognition in the museum s The Power of Children exhibit March 22, 2015 Information available in the Guidance Office or online at Indiana Sheriffs Association Scholarship Program Be a member of the Indiana Sheriffs Association or a dependent child or grandchild of a member (it is possible to apply for membership when you apply for the scholarship) Be an Indiana resident, attend an Indiana college or university majoring in a law enforcement field as a full-time student--at least 12 hours Complete the two-part application which includes a recommendation form for a high school official and submit a transcript and SAT or ACT scores Appr $500 awards, may apply for renewal for three successive years March 31, 2015 Applications available in the Guidance Office 4

5 Construction Advancement Foundation Scholarship HS seniors who are US citizens and Indiana residents of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper or Starke Counties with a GPA greater than 3.0 Must pursue a career in construction or a related field such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering or Project Management at a post-secondary school Complete application including a 300-word essay Why I am interested in a career in the Construction Industry, three recommendations, SAT/ACT scores, proof of acceptance/enrollment in post-secondary school and major $2500 annual, $10,000 maximum per applicant; use toward tuition, fees, books, room and board March 31, 2015 Available in the Guidance Office or at Martin G. Alberico Scholarship Must be a college-bound high school senior ranked in the top 20% of graduating class Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and involved in school and/or community activities Must demonstrate financial need and submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, two essays and application, plus attachments 5 - $1000 awards April 15, 2015 Available in the Guidance Office or online at 5

6 Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants Annual Scholarship Open to HS juniors and seniors as well as post-secondary students Submit by a word essay on the topic: Describe your educational and life goals and explain your plan for achieving those goals. Include your degree/major and why you chose it and how it will help you achieve your goals.
