1 DANIELS FUND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION What is the Daniels Fund? The Daniels Fund was established to provide scholarships to Kansas City residents both members of Second Presbyterian and non-members based on need and academic achievement. The fund was established by John Newton Daniels, a devoted servant of Jesus Christ; we count it a great privilege to have a part in the realization of the terms of his bequest. The scholarship awards range from $500 to $2000. Who qualifies? The criteria for qualifying are established by the terms of the Will of John Newton Daniels, which states, It is my desire that the recipients of distributions be deserving persons chosen from all races and ages whose needs cannot be met by their own efforts or other known sources of aid. Applicants must be residents of the greater Kansas City area, but they may go to school elsewhere. The Daniels Committee, under the supervision of the Mission Committee and the Session of Second Presbyterian Church, has the authority to choose recipients of scholarship aid. All applicants are carefully considered on the basis of Christian commitment, need, academic goals, and the availability of our funds; we may be unable to assist every applicant every year. Only one application per person will be considered in each calendar year. Whether an applicant is granted or denied a scholarship in one year will not influence the decision to grant or deny an application in a following year. Important dates: The deadline for application is April 15, Interviews may be conducted SUNDAYS in April; they ll take place at 9 and 11:15 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church and will last approximately 30 minutes. Applicants will be notified by about scholarships decisions by May 1. We will contact you if we wish to schedule an interview after we ve received your complete application materials. Please do not contact members of the Daniels Committee about the status of your application. DANIELS FUND SCHOLARSHIP REFERENCES If this is your first application, you must provide at least two references. Please give the attached forms to two people who are familiar with your academic work, your community involvement and Christian commitment. Do not include relatives, paid staff members of Second Presbyterian Church, or members of the Daniels Committee. The individuals you choose for your character references must fill out the forms themselves and return them by mail or directly to Second Presbyterian Church. Please make sure your references complete and return the forms by April 15 your application is not complete until we have received these forms.
