Introductions - Jed Lyman The meeting began at 12:09 p.m. Sam Kelly, Brian Chamberlain, Angie Tymofichuk, and Scott Nowlin were on phone. 2. Approval of Minutes February 7, 2018 Motion: Charlie Vono moved to accept the February 7, 2018 minutes. Roberta Schlicher seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. 3. Financial Report Jake Browning Jake Browning read from the Profit and Loss report as well as the Balance Sheet, which are attached. All of the scholarship checks were distributed at the banquet except one, which Jake will mail.

2 $4500 is going to the University of Utah for their scholarships. Not all of the checks have been cashed yet. Not all of the banquet expenses have yet been paid. 4. Membership Committee - Angie Tymofichuk Angie is following up with three societies. She has not been able to contact ASME and has not gotten any response to the s she has sent to them. Angie will check with the student chapter of ASME to see with whom they liaison. Angie will check with AWWA (American Water Works Association) and ASEE (American Society of Engineering Education). They are both sectional chapters. Their leadership is not in Utah. AWWA used to be a member of UEC. We need to find out if they have members in Utah. Jake Browning is looking into joining ASME. They are not currently members of the UEC. ASME is not currently an active society in Utah. Dan Donohoe was the chair of ASME and he was instrumental in their leaving the UEC. Chris Perry might have Dan s contact information. Amber Dalley, chair of ASM, indicated that they are seriously thinking of joining the UEC. 5. Publication Committee Charlie Vono Things are currently on schedule. Charlie has talked to people about what they need to submit for the Journal. Charlie needs to figure out how many hard copies we need. Susan needs to update the history and roster on the website. We need more ads for the Journal. We need to push that now with our companies and vendors. Charlie has a rate flyer. 6. Scholarship Committee David Cline a) Report winners: Cory Goates Mechanical Engineering Utah State University VBFA Scholarship Nathan Guymon Biological Engineering Utah State University Northrup Grumman Scholarship Sydney Taylor Mechanical Engineering Utah State University Northrop Grumman Scholarship Sherry Masutani Electrical Engineering Weber State University Gerald H. 4 David has about half of the photos he needs for the Journal. David is meeting with Juli on Friday to figure out how to get the others. Some may not be in the Journal if we can t get appropriate photos. Some scholarship recipients were not at the banquet. All photos need to be at least 300 DPI. There were 13 scholarship winners 11 of ours plus two from ASHRAE. We used to just have 3 scholarships and then we added the Piele scholarship at Weber State by request of Sophie Hanson who funds that scholarship. Charlie Vono s scholarship was used to purchase winner tickets last year and this year. Charlie would like to discuss increasing the amount that entities donate for scholarships so that the scholarship winner s banquet tickets can be covered as well. This would enable Charlie s donation to actually go towards a scholarship. 7. E-Week Committee Roberta Schlicher Recap of Banquet: Roberta reported the subsidized cost of a ticket was $43.63 this year. Without subsidy, ticket prices were $80.47 with no donations. This year was a stellar year for fund-raising. If we have a year where it s not as good, tickets prices will be more. Scholarship pledges came to around $23,000. General banquet pledges were only $5,600. Most scholarship donors purchased their banquet tickets. MESA bought their tickets, which is appropriate and is what has happened in the past. If scholarship donors purchase a table, they should expect their winners to sit at their table. They should purchase the tickets for the winners anyway. Some might donate to the scholarship fund and not want to be a presenter, but we need to be sure the scholarship recipients are funded to attend the banquet. We try to match presenters with their scholarship winners. Roberta is working on a final banquet financial report. The catering bill was quite a bit lower than expected. It was $8,120 because we went with 180 instead of 200. We tweaked it several times the week before the banquet. The venue bill is due for the second portion of what we owe. The awards were probably around $1,000. Brian Warner will get the final invoice to Roberta. The flowers were around $54. The speaker gift was $56. We should have a better idea for next year what it will cost. We have a balance of $2,270 for next year if all of the pledges come in. 8. Awards Committee Brian Warner a) Report award winners: There was a miscommunication at the banquet regarding Engineering Educator of the Year and it was announced incorrectly at the banquet. It was correct on the plaque. The winners were as follows: Educator of the Year- Masood Parvania (IEEE) Engineer of the year Brent White (SEAU) Fresh faces in Engineering Ian Klosowiak (SAMPE) MESA Teach of the Year - Carli Sterling 4 P age UEC Board Meeting Minutes March 7, 2018

5 9. Fund-raising Committee Charlie Vono Charlie has a document that lays out the pledges and we need to compare that with the money we have received. Next year Orbital ATK will be part of Northrop and will not be making a separate donation. 10. Legislative Committee - Michael Smith Michael Smith was not in attendance. There was no report. 11. Nominating Committee Charlie Vono a) Slate of nominees: Chair Roberta Schlicher (SAME), Vice-Chair Jake Browning (INCOSE), Treasurer Paul White (INCOSE) The by-laws say officers can t be from the same society. Jake is trying to become a member of another society. He can join SWE or EWB. Charlie Vono will give out Paul s bio at the next meeting. There were no other nominees presented at this time. Charlie would like to remain the Publication Committee chair for several years. 12. DOPL Nominations We have not received any nominations so far. They are due the beginning of April. Susan Merrill read the positions that are open. Nominees must be licensed. 13. Other Business There was no other business. 14. Adjournment Motion: Brian Warner moved to adjourn the meeting.
