Title Advances in image processing for very high resolution optical remote sensing images 2. s Lead Gemine Vivone received the B.Sc. (summa cum laude), the M.Sc. (summa cum laude), and the Ph.D. (highest rank) degrees in information engineering from the University of Salerno, Salerno, Italy, in 2008, 2011, and 2014, respectively. He is currently with the Department of Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics (DIEM), University of Salerno, Italy. In 2014, he joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Science & Technology Organization (STO) Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), La Spezia, Italy as a Scientist. In 2013, he was as a Visiting Scholar with Grenoble Institute of Technology (INPG), Grenoble, France, conducting his research at the Laboratoire Grenoblois de l Image, de la Parole, du Signal et de l Automatique GIPSA-Lab. In 2012, he was a Visiting Researcher with the NATO Undersea Research Centre, La Spezia, Italy. His main research interests focus on statistical signal processing, detection of remotely sensed images, data fusion, and tracking algorithms. Dr. Vivone serves as a Referee for several journals such as IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters. Dr. Vivone received the Symposium Best Paper Award for the paper "MULTIRESOLUTION ANALYSIS AND COMPONENT SUBSTITUTION TECHNIQUES FOR HYPERSPECTRAL PANSHARPENING" with authors G. Vivone, R. Restaino, G.A. Licciardi, M. Dalla Mura, and J. Chanussot at IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) Jocelyn Chanussot (M 04 SM 04 F 12) received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Grenoble Institute of Technology (Grenoble INP), Grenoble, France, in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree from the Université de Savoie, Annecy, France, in In 1999, he was with the Geography Imagery Perception Laboratory for the Delegation Generale de l Armement, French National Defense Department, Arcueil, France. From 2015 to 2017, he was a Visiting Professor with the University of California at Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA, USA. Since 1999, he has been with Grenoble INP, where he was an Assistant Professor from 1999 to 2005 and an Associate Professor from 2005 to He has been a Visiting Scholar with Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, the

Since 2013, he has been an Adjunct Professor with the University of Iceland, Reykjavik, Iceland. He is currently a Professor of Signal and Image Processing with Grenoble INP. He is conducting his research with the Grenoble Images Speech Signals and Automatics Laboratory, Grenoble. His research interests include image analysis, multicomponent image processing, nonlinear filtering, and data fusion in remote sensing. Dr. Chanussot has been a member of the Institut Universitaire de France, Paris, France, since He was a member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Administrative Committee from 2009 to 2010 and in charge of membership development. He was a member of the Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2006 to He was the founding President of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing French Chapter from 2007 to 2010, which received the 2010 IEEE GRS- S Chapter Excellence Award. He was a co-recipient of the NORSIG 2006 Best Student Paper Award, the IEEE GRSS 2011 and 2015 Symposium Best Paper Award, the IEEE GRSS 2012 Transactions Prize Paper Award, and the IEEE GRSS 2013 Highest Impact Paper Award. Fabio Pacifici (S 03 M 10 SM 13) received the Laurea (B.Sc.; cum laude) and Laurea Specialistica (M.Sc.; cum laude) degrees in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in geoinformation from Tor Vergata University, Rome, Italy, in 2003, 2006, and 2010, respectively. He is a Principal Scientist at DigitalGlobe, Inc., where he has been working since Between 2005 and 2009, he collaborated as Visiting Scientist with the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA. He has been involved in various remote sensing projects commissioned by the European Space Agency. He has authored (or coauthored) more than 90 scientific publications, including journal papers, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. His research activities include processing of remote sensing images, data fusion, feature extraction, pattern recognition, image sharpening, and analysis of multitemporal and multiangular data. He has interests in classification and change detection techniques for urban applications using optical and synthetic aperture radar imagery, with special emphasis on machine learning. Dr. Pacifici is the current Editorin-Chief of the IEEE GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING ENEWSLETTER and serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN APPLIED EARTH OBSERVATIONS AND REMOTE SENSING. He was the Chair of the Data Fusion Technical Committee ( ) of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. He was the recipient of the 2011 Best Reviewer Award from the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society for his service to the IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN APPLIED EARTH OBSERVATIONS AND REMOTE SENSING. He was also the recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2014 IEEE GRSS Workshop on Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing (WHISPERS) and Best Student Paper Award at the 2009 IEEE Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event. 3 Jun Zhou received the B.S. degree in computer science from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China, in He received the M.S. degree in computer science from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, in 2006, respectively. He is a senior lecturer in the School of Information and Communication Technology at Griffith University, Nathan, Australia. Previously, he had been a research fellow in the Research School of Computer Science at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia, and a researcher in the Canberra Research Laboratory, NICTA, Australia. His research interests include pattern recognition, computer vision and spectral imaging with their applications to remote sensing and environmental informatics. He is an associate editor for Journal of Soils and Sediments and IEEE MMTC R-Letter, and a guest editor for Pattern Recognition Journal. Dr. Bing Zhang is a Full Professor and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of sciences, where he has been leading Chinese key scientific projects in the area of hyperspectral remote sensing for more than 20 years. His research interests include the development of Mathematical and Physical models and image processing for the analysis of hyperspectral remote sensing data. Prof. Zhang has authored or co-authored more than 300 journal citation reports (JCR) papers and peer-reviewed international conference papers. Prof. Zhang is the author of 5 books on remote sensing, which serve as the main materials for Chinese education and research in remote sensing subject. He is an IEEE Senior Member, an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations in Remote Sensing (JSTARS), and was guest editor for several special issues: IEEE JSTARS special issue on "Hyperspectral Remote Sensing: Theory, Methods, and Applications", IEEE JSTARS special issue on "Big Data in Remote Sensing", Proceedings of IEEE special issue on "Spatial Technology and Social Media", Pattern Recognition Letters special issue on "Advances in Pattern Recognition in Remote Sensing", Remote Sensing special issue on "Widespread Applications Based on Hyperspectral Technologies from Space. 3. Schedule Proposed starting date for submission: 1 August 2017 Proposed closing date for submission: 31 January 2018 The review could start whenever a newly submitted paper is received. All the review procedure is planned to be completed by 15 May Advertising The s will exploit several ways to promote the proposed special stream. In particular, the special stream will be open to everybody and will be advertised, as follows: Invitations to colleagues belonging to the main research groups for the special stream topic encouraging them to submit a contribution (for an overview of people who could be interested in the topic, see Point 5 of the proposal);

Special feature A special feature related to this GRSL special stream regards the distribution to the participants of very high spatial resolution images. Thanks to the DigitalGlobe Foundation, we can provide to the participants WorldView-3 data to be exploited to assess the proposed approaches. In particular, a panchromatic image with very high spatial resolution (i.e. 31 cm), eight multispectral images in the visible near-infrared spectrum (spatial resolution 1.24 m) and eight short-wave infrared images (spatial resolution 7.5 m) will be distributed. 6. Papers that do not meet an appropriate quality of English writing will be rejected during the review process. Furthermore, all papers submitted to the special stream are required to cite the corresponding papers already presented elsewhere (conferences, etc.). 9.
