8 Meet the Director Dr. Colleen Berry, Instructor and Associate Director, Center for Asian Studies, will direct the program. Dr. Berry has lived and worked in various cities around China and Taiwan for several years. In cooperation with CU s Study Abroad Office, she will choose the program participants, lead a pre-program orientation, teach the course, and act as resident director in China. She will be available in case of emergency.

10 Academics Program locations are ideal for gaining firsthand knowledge on the ways modernity has affected each city. Examine the cities through film, literature, popular culture, and social sciences. Three preparatory classes held in Boulder before the program. 11 Educational Excursions Beijing: The Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Lama Temple, Panjiayuan Market Xi'an: The Terra Cotta Warriors, the City Wall, the Famen Temple, the Qianling Tomb, and the tomb of Empress Wu Shanghai: The Jewish Quarter, Yuyuan, Old Shanghai, Urban Planning Museum. 14 2018 Tang Fund Scholarship Offered by the Center for Asian Studies (CAS) thanks to the generosity of the Tang Foundation. Intended to support students who would otherwise not be able to go to China and/or who have never been to China before. $5,000 for each participant; will be applied to your CU Boulder account in May. *Participants must have funds to pay for the $500 non refundable deposit upon acceptance in late January.

16 Eligibility GPA: 2.5 Class-standing: Sophomore by the time the program starts Language prerequisite: None Flexibility: This program is competitive; eligibility criteria are usually not flexible. The program can only accommodate 12 participants. Shanghai by Colleen Berry

18 Global Seminar Application Process Sign on today s sign-up sheet: check the Start App box to get your application open Log on to: using your CU Identity Key and password after you receive notification that your online application is open Work on your online application from home The application includes: complete Study Abroad 101 (if you have not done so yet), professor or T.A. recommendation, personal statement, Buffs Abroad scholarship application, online forms, application fee Speak with a study abroad advisor and/or with the program director at any point in the process!

19 When your application is complete Early February: Application Review & Interview Due within one week of acceptance: participant contract & non-refundable deposit By late February: Program confirmed March/April: post-acceptance paperwork, visa application, airfare, pre-departure meetings, readings & preparation May 2018: Go to China!
