5 Budget and Manpower Budget The major categories of NSRRC budget include general administration (salaries, utilities, rental, etc.), light source operation (maintenance and upgrades), design and construction of insertion devices and beamlines, support for experimental stations and research, and civil construction. 7 FIGURES AND FACTS Beamline Status As of July 2004, NSRRC has a total of twenty-five beamlines in operation/commission and three beamlines under construction. Table 1 lists the status of the NSRRC beamlines. As for quality measurement, four additional beamlines are dedicated to diagnosis. The spokespersons for these opened beamline/endstations are shown in Table 2. A blueprint of the beamline layout is illustrated below. 10 User Administration From 1997 to 2003, the total number of beamlines opened to the public has increased from 4 to 17. During the year of 2003, the UAO handled 522 beamline proposals and 3,184 user runs. The UAO has issued 382 new user cards (including 326 new applications, 53 renewal, 3 loss), 1,343 financial aids for students/postdocs, and 101 financial aids for SPring-8 experiments. Number of users in 2003 is 716 (90 Principal Investigators) drawn from 47 affiliations (12 from foreign countries). At the end of 2003, the NSRRC user community has 791 active users (217 Principal Investigators). In 2003, under the leadership of UEC Chair Prof. Chih-Hao Lee, Department of Engineering & System Science of National Tsing Hua University, UEC held four general business meetings. New UEC members elected are C. H. Du, National Tamkang University; T. S. Yih, National Central University; T. W. Huang, National Tsing Hua University; T. W. Pi, NSRRC. UEC and NSRRC jointly organized the Annual Users Meeting & 10th Anniversary of Operation, which was held from October 30 th to 31 st, There were 16 invited talks, 152 posters, and about 431 attendees. During the ceremony of 10th Anniversary of Operation on October 31 st, 2003, NSRRC invited the current and past directors to share the memorable moment. 120
