All of you are a testament to how Asian and Pacific Islander American culture has enriched Ohio. You are business owners and entrepreneurs, educators and students, workers and advocates, and leaders in the community. You serve our nation honorably in the military. And one of the most important ways you can make a difference is through participating in the political process. From voting to volunteering, community service to public service, you all have a role to play in our democracy, and there are so many ways you can engage in our state s civic life. 8 APAPA Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association Empowering and Engaging Asian & Pacific Islander Americans Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) is a national non-profit, nonpartisan 501 (c) (3) organization. Please visit apapa.org for more information. Mission To empower Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Americans through education, leadership, and active participation in civic and public affairs. History CC and Regina Yin, together with like-minded civic leaders founded the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) in 2001 to empower the API community. The founders of APAPA were responding to an alarming lack of API representation at all levels of government throughout the U.S. Goals As a grassroots, community-based, non-profit, non-political, non-partisan organization, APAPA focuses on increasing API civic participation at the local, state, and national level through four major programs to achieve its mission: Voter Development - Voter registration and education, town halls, forums, and public media Leadership Development Internships, scholarships, fellowship, and membership Appointments Judicial and political appointments at local, state and federal levels Community Services Partnership and outreach to immigrants and diverse communities to provide financial, healthcare, job opportunity, Internet and other services Accomplishments Since its founding, APAPA has achieved a local and national presence with close to 40,000 members and 23 chapters in California, Washington D.C., New York, Florida, Texas, Nevada, Ohio, Washington and Massachusetts. APAPA has provided hundreds of scholarships and internships throughout the country at the local, state and national levels, registered and educated thousands of API voters, and hosted regular town hall meetings, forums and media programs around the country. Together with many other organizations and individuals, APAPA has helped increase the numbers of API leaders in government at federal, state and local levels. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was presented the Leadership Award by U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham Former U.S. Rep. Mike Honda was presented the Life Achievement Award by Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader, and Norman Mineta, Former Secretary of Transportation

9 CLF Foundation The CLF Foundation is a 501(c) (3) incorporated in Washington DC in It was the vision of Mr. Sandy Chau, chairman of the board. It is headquartered in San Mateo, California. The principal activity of CLF is to sponsor Civic Leadership Forums aimed at training Asian Americans to participate in the political process and our civic life. The Forums are non-partisan and inclusive of all Americans regardless of ethnic group or country of origin. After the inaugural San Mateo, California CLF in 2015, CLFs have been held across the country. Planning is underway for a June CLF in Boston and a major national meeting in Santa Clara this August. Future CLF programs will be announced on this website. V I SION Our Vision is to create a pipeline for Civic Leaders for a fair and harmonious society. M I S SION Our Mission is to train leaders and to promote civic engagement. We serve as a catalyst to engage multiple organizations and ethnic groups.
