1 WREF/YWCA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Scholarships provided by local corporations and foundations and range from $1,000 to $5,000 INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATION: N E W F O R Handwritten or incomplete applications will not be considered. 2. Submit three copies with attachments for each scholarship application. 3. Applications must be mailed to: Women s Research and Education Fund (WREF) P.O. Box 293 Rye, NY GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be female; Must be a senior in high school* or attending a college or United States accredited school; Must have Westchester County as applicant's permanent address; Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (Copy of Alien Registration Card required); Application must be submitted by January 30, APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS (Attachments): Applicant's personal information page including essay and list of school and community activities; 1040 income tax return (2016) & W-2 of each parent or guardian providing financial support. If applicant is emancipated, then only the student tax information is required. (All tax information will be shredded after the event); Copy of Alien Registration Card, if applicable; Official school transcript along with applicant's GPA and class ranking; Nominator's response to questions and a paragraph about applicant; REMEMBER, THREE COPIES APPLICATION, FOR EACH GRANT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR, INCLUDING ALL ATTACHMENTS, ARE REQUIRED. 1

2 *SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Eligibility requires enrollment an accredited educational program after graduation and who: 1. Demonstrates a commitment to her community; 2. Demonstrates academic achievement; 3. Demonstrates financial need. PROCESS FOR SELECTING SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS: 1. Submissions are reviewed by a scholarship committee; 2. Two finalists are selected for each scholarship; 3. Recipients and Nominators will be contacted by telephone in late March. APPLICATION CHECKLIST: Be sure to include the following items. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Applicant s personal information page Applicant s personal essay including list of school and community activities Copies of (2016) 1040 income tax return & W-2 Form Copy of Alien Registration Card (if applicable) Nominator s response to questions All three signatures: applicant, parent or guardian and nominator (see bottom of applicant s personal information sheet) Nominator s paragraph about applicant Three copies of a completed application - with attachments - for each scholarship you apply for, is required. Please do not submit essays written for other scholarships. Thoughtful, concise answers to these questions are most valued. In addition, attach a list of your school and community activities (like volunteer work, clubs, and sports). What are your future academic/professional goals.
