J Andrea stopped by to say hello to the staff at Sparks Campus. She talked about her transfer experiences to the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and how TRiO SSS prepared her for the journey. We are so proud of you J Andrea! Keep up the good work! Tynesha Jones accepted to University of Alabama Birmingham Nursing Program. Tynesha has been taking internet courses at the University of Alabama Birmingham to complete her pre-requisites for nursing school. She recently received her acceptance letter from the UAB Nursing School for next semester. Congratulations Tynesha! Good luck in your future endeavors! Best Wishes for 2018!

The students worked very hard on a lot of outside assignments.
3 Page 3 Students Travel to Alabama State University for ACT December 2017 Instructors: Ms. Lightner and Mrs. Lawrence Zatisha, Trinity, A Jacia, and Jeneciah Zy Kearia, Karri, Brishada, Jamaya, Diaveon, and Jaliyah students who scored 17 or above on the practice ACT exam traveled to Montgomery, Alabama in December to take the official ACT exam at Alabama State University. 4 Page 4 TRiO Participants Tour Four-Year Universities On Friday, October 20, 2017 TRiO Student Support Services participants toured Auburn University Montgomery (AUM). Participants completed prospect cards and registered to receive updated information about AUM. The enthusiastic tour guides delivered informative details about the university as participants walked the campus. The group was greeted by Adrianne Conner, a former TRiO participant, who is currently enrolled at the university. University departments invited students to their area of study to familiarize them with the expectations of each program. The students really enjoyed learning about the opportunities at Auburn University Montgomery. Friday, November 3, 2017 TRiO Student Support Services participants toured the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) in Dothan, Alabama. Students were given information on admissions, scholarships, and financial aid. They were able to visit various departments of the college for a brief description and/or demonstration in each discipline s area. Students touring ACOM: Alex Ford, Noah Kelly, Kyra Dixon, Bianca McKenzie, and Ravis Hall. Not pictured: Abdel Collado. Friday, November 17, 2017, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama was the destination of TRiO Student Support Services participants. The university highlighted its history with a tour of the George Washington Carver Museum. The students were astounded to learn that the university campus is the only campus in the United States that is a National Historic Site. The participants enjoyed a lunch buffet in the Kellogg Center Hotel. They were able to interact with Tuskegee students, and their interest in Tuskegee University was so piqued that some are eager to return as transfer students.
5 TRiO on the Wallace Community College Sparks and Dothan Campuses is made up of three programs: Student Support Services, Upward Bound and Talent Search. They are federally funded programs by the U. Deadline to submit completed application is no later than January 31, The Preszler Injury Lawyers Triumphing Over Adversity Scholarship will be awarded to the student who demonstrably embodies the determination, ability and steadfast commitment not only to their own personal success, but also to promoting the greater good for those in need. Deadline to submit completed application is no later than January 31, Seth Okin Good Deeds Scholarship (External). All applicants must submit a full application (personal essay, transcript, and cover sheet). Deadline: No later than January 31, 2018 by to scholarships@crimnallawyermaryland.net Alabama Municipal Electric Authority Scholarship (External). To be eligible for an AMEA scholarship, a student s parent and/or legal guardian must receive electric service from an AMEA Member utility. Granted only to graduating high school seniors, the student must attend a four-year college/university, community college, and/or vocational /trade school within the state of Alabama. Forty-four, $2,500 scholarships are available. For an application, visit the AMEA web site, Scholarship Program. Application deadline for the 2018 program is Monday, February 12, Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships. The NSDAR awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education. Scholarship applications must be ed by February 15, 2018, at 12 midnight (EST). Clean This Carpet Scholarship. Clean This Carpet is a company specializing in reviewing carpet cleaning products such as vacuums. The deadline for submission is February 20, The winner will be announced two weeks later. The E. L. Gibson Foundation Scholarships (External). The E. L. Gibson Foundation promotes better health for the residents of specific Wiregrass areas. It provides scholarships to assist persons seeking a degree in the health care fields.
