2 First Announcement The organizers of the AMC 2013 are pleased to announce that the next Asian Mathematical Conference will take place in Busan, Korea, from June 30, Sunday through July 4, Thursday, This conference will be co-hosted by the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS) and Korean Mathematical Society (KMS), and sponsored by the 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2014) Organizing Committee. The AMC series is a major SEAMS conference, held every 4-5 years since 1990, and hosted by countries in Asia. The First AMC was held in Hong Kong (1990), the Second in Thailand (1995), the Third in the Philippines (2000), the Fourth in Singapore (2005), and the latest was Malaysia (2009). The Korean mathematical community is delighted to host the AMC in East Asia for the first time in its history. The objective of the conference is to provide a forum for mathematics researchers from Asia to foster links and collaboration among themselves and with mathematicians from other parts of the world through the discussion of issues, exchange of ideas and the presentation of research findings. This announcement contains useful information about the conference, including information about the venue and accommodation possibilities, in addition to scientific programs. Location and Venue A.1 Venue BEXCO #55 APEC-ro, Haeundae-gu Busan, Korea All mathematical programs and side events will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO), which is located in the Centum City, the largest complex city in Busan. A.2 About Busan Situated on the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula overlooking the Korean Strait, Busan is Korea's largest port city and the 5th largest port in the world. From rolling hills and fresh seafood markets to endless beaches and picturesque islands, Busan is one of Korea's most beautiful and captivating destinations.

4 A.3 Access Gimhae International Airport in Busan is a major hub, served by over 20 different airlines offering over 470 direct flights per week. It s only 40 minutes away from the conference venue. In addition to air travel, Busan has an efficient transport system including buses, taxis and a subway system connecting all parts of the city, including the conference venue, hotels, downtown areas and the Korea Train Xpress (KTX) stations. Programs C.1 Scientific Program The Scientific Committee will set up the structure of the AMC 2013 program and determine the invited speakers and sessions. There will be eight one-hour Plenary Lectures covering recent developments in the mathematics and dozens of forty-five-minute Invited Lectures in

6 parallel sections. Every registered participant of the conference will have the opportunity to give a short presentation, either during a poster session or in the form of a contributed talk. In 2013 the organizers will make a call for Abstracts and will set a deadline. And abstracts of all lectures will be distributed to registered participant at conference check-in. C.2 Cultural Program Last 1 day (July 4, 2013) will be prepared for the cultural program. Further information about cultural program will be given later on the website. D. Registration and Accommodation E.1 Registration Registration is required in order to be admitted to the conference and for participation in the scientific program of the conference and other activities. Participants wishing to reserve hotel accommodation or tickets for the tourist program must be registered. An electronic registration system will be available for advance registration in the spring of E.2 Financial Assistance It is expected that KMS covers the part of the local and/or travel expenses and/or registration fees for the speakers and/or participants who have difficulties to receive financial support from elsewhere. E.3 Low Budget Accommodation For the conference participants from developing countries a number of rooms will be available in student dormitories, most of them conveniently located on the main transport routes and accessible by subway. 68 single rooms and 782 double rooms at the Sejong Gwan, the dormitory in Daeyeon Campus of Pukyong National University, will be made available for conference participants at the rate of 20 USD per night.

7 E.4 Hotels The organizers selected a number of hotels in different categories for the conference participants in the main areas of Busan, most of them conveniently located on the main transport routes and accessible by subway. Special rates have been secured, and in the spring of 2013 the hotels will be listed on the website with links for online reservation. Practical Information F.1 Passport and Visa Any foreign visitors wishing to enter the Republic of Korea must have a valid passport and, if necessary, obtain a visa before departure. People of 99 countries who want to visit Korea temporarily are permitted to enter without a visa according to visa-exemption agreements or in accordance with principles reciprocity or national interest. The website of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade provides information on which countries citizens require a visa. Please contact the Korean Embassy or Consulate in your departure country for further details. F.2 Invitation Letter An official invitation letter will be sent upon request. This personal invitation is intended only to facilitate travel and visa arrangements to the registered participants for the conference and Visa applications are the sole responsibility of participants. F.3 Time Zone Korea Standard Time is Greenwich Mean Time plus 9 hours (GMT +9) and does not have daylight savings time. F.4 Climate Due to its oceanic location, Busan enjoys a milder climate than many other parts of South

8 Korea. Summer starts at the end of June, ending in early September. The average temperature of Busan from the end of June to the beginning of July is around 25 C (77 F). F.5 Currency The unit of Korean currency is the Won( ). Coin denominations are 10, 50, 100 and 500. Banknotes are 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, and 50,000, the exchange rate is approximately US$1 to 1,120 as of March Currency Exchange: Foreign banknotes and traveler's check can be exchanged at foreign exchange banks and other authorized moneychangers. There are also money exchange services in all star-rated hotels. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm from Monday to Friday. Banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Credit Cards: Diners Club, Visa, American Express and Master Card are widely accepted in the majority of hotels, shops and restaurants. Check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services that may be available. Traveler s Check: Accepted, but may be difficult to change in smaller towns. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to bring Traveler's checks in US Dollars. F.6 Electricity The standard electrical supply voltage is 220 volts AC/60 cycles. The type of electric plugs/sockets in Korea: F.7 Tipping Tipping is not a traditional Korean custom. A 10% service charge is added to the bill but tipping is not expected. It is also not necessary to tip a taxi driver unless extra services are provided.
