13 How it all started Tremendous growth in electrical technology in late 19th century, EE became a profession Plans began for a milestone international Electrical Exhibition at Franklin Institute in Philadelphia This prompted 25 of America's prominent electrical engineers to form a society to promote their field The American Association of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) founded on 13 May, 1884 AIEE and IRE merged in 1965 to form IEEE Thomas A. Edison Alexander Graham Bell G. Marconi

14 A Look Back at The Beginnings of IEEE Publishing = A History of Modern Technology Transactions of the AIEE dates back to 1893 The Proceedings of the IRE dates back to 1913 Featuring now-legendary works from tech pioneers A few familiar names

15 Article From 1893 from Charles Proteus Steinmetz. His work fostered the development of alternating current that made possible the expansion of the electric power industry in the US At the International Electrical Congress in Chicago that year, Steinmetz made one of his greatest contributions to the Electrical Engineering community, a lecture and presentation describing the mathematics of alternating current phenomena.
