4 Tempus IV Basics Supports the modernisation of higher education in the partner countries through university cooperation projects. Duration: (yearly calls for applications) Provides support to consortia of institutions composed mainly of universities or university associations. Last call ended on February 23,

6 Tempus IV Objectives Simplified: the aim of Tempus is to attract Higher Education Institutions from outside the EU through cooperational work in consortia to a more and more visible, modernized European Higher Education Area. 6

7 Content of projects: Reform of curricula: - modernizing curricula, ECTS, recognition, etc. Administrative reforms: - Administration and Services for students - Quality control - Intensification of international relations - Etc. University and Society: - Staff training - Development of partnerships with enterprises - Education Research Innovation - Training programmes for national administrative institutions (ministeries etc.) 7

8 Two types of Tempus projects: Joint projects Reforms of curricula Reforms of HEI administration HEI and Society Joint projects seek to reform single segments of the education system Structural Measures Reforms of HEI administration HEI and Society Structural measures seek to contribute to the development and reform of education institutions and systems at the national level 8

9 Composition of consortia: 1. National projects (EU + 1 partner country) Minimum 3 universities from 3 different EU member states Minimum 3 universities from the partner country 2. Multi-Country Projects (EU + x partner countries) Minimum 3 universities from 3 different EU member states Minimum 2 universities from each partner country (at least 2 partner countries) 9

13 News and statistics: By the end of the last call (23. February 2012): 117 applications from German universities. Germany is the most active country, followed by Italy (69 applications), Spain (49) and France (38). In total 676 applications at EACEA. Besides 117 applications from German universities as coordinators, German institutions are involved in 168 other applications (as project partners). The total number of applications has increased (29%). Reasons: increased budget (2011: 48,7 Mio / 2012: 90,6 Mio). Share of partner countries: Serbia (26 applications), Egypt (17) and Russia (14) very active. 146 applications (ca. 22% of all applications) from partner countries. Results: will most probably be announced at the end of July
