11 Objective of AASP Program This PG is designed to create high potential research hubs in selected fields within the A and A region, while fostering the next generation of leading researchers. Under the program, these core institutions will collaborate in research fields of special importance or significance to A and/or A and that is deemed to be of high priority within Japan. 15 AASP PG Invitation Plan Total 8 researchers will be invited to HUFFS (Hakodate city, Hokkaido) for 20 to 25 days for activities including collaborative research in R1 R5 related topics, training of special experimental techniques, educational experience, excursion tour, workshop (presentation and round discussion) during his or her stay. Before coming home, report must be submitted. In home institute, the researcher must make a presentation at the seminar.

37 JENESYS-JSPS Invitation Program for East Asian Young Researchrs awarded to HUFFS Advanced Program to Foster Young and Female Researchers from Southeast Asia in Sustainable Fisheries Sciences Coordinator Prof. Yasuaki Takagi

38 Background At the 2 nd East Asia Summit (EAS), held in January 2007, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, announced a plan to implement a \35-billion youth exchange program, inviting about 6,000 young people to Japan from the EAS member states every year for the next five years.

39 What is JENESYS? Based on Mr. Abe`s plan, the Japanese Government has launched the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme, under which it is conducting a variety of exchange activities.

40 Invitation Program for East Asian Researchers As a part of the JENESYS programme, the Invitation Program for East Asian Young Researchers works to create regional cooperation among Asian countries through exchanges of next generation researchers.

41 Purpose of Exchange Program for East Asian Researchers By supporting exchange programs implemented by Japanese universities and research institutions, the Invitation Program for East Asian Young Researchers works to establish and expand networks with researchers from Asian countries. It also helps to develop high-caliber human resources and to create a regional science and technology community

42 Our new program follows last year s Fostering Program for Young and Female Researchers in Sustainable Fisheries Sciences in Southeast Asia (Oct Sep. 2010) Our new program was also accepted and financially supported by JSPS (The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) as a JENESYS EXCHANGE PROGRAM In 2011 FY

43 Purpose of Our JSPS Project Sustainable Fisheries is not only a goal we aim at industry, but also a prerequisite concept in research and education in the fisheries sciences. In 21 st Century, both marine ecosystem conservation and stable sea-food production are most important issues to stand together for sound and long-term lasting utilization of marine products.

44 New concept---sustainability Thus, a paradigm to the new fisheries science should include the concept of Sustainability in all the aspects of research, education, international exchange and academia-industry collaboration. To achieve Sustainable Fisheries first in Asia and then in the world, we believe that the role of young and female researchers is very important to drive new-concept.

Research in HUFFS Research for special topics ; Workshop at HUFFS (presentation, group discussion, etc.); Excursion; Education Experience (lecture or seminar at HU); Submission of Achievement report. 3. 46 Activities by Advanced Program to Foster Young and Female Researchers from Southeast Asia in Sustainable Fisheries Sciences 15 young researchers were invited for short-term co-operative research to HU from KU(7), AIT(3), SEAFDEC(2), WU(2), and SR U(1).
