As well as this I ve been working in the company office organising and coordinating events on a daily basis. On my part this included revenue reports and keeping track of equipment movement and maintenance. The climate started as a real plus, however we're now into our third week of a heatwave topping out at 45 degrees which makes for tough work when you're outside all day! dylan Boocock, Ba adventure education, 2 Work placement, malta. 3

3 What is erasmus+ Erasmus+ is a EuroPEan initiative funded by the british CounCil, formed of subject specific ExChangE agreements between departments at the university of ChiChEstEr and PartnEr universities across EuroPE. under the Erasmus+ programme, undergraduate students have the opportunity to apply for a study or work placement in another European country, depending on their degree. study placements take place at one of our European partner universities, relevant to your subject. Work placements* provide the opportunity for paid or unpaid work in another European country. *subject to course approval We currently have over 25 Erasmus+ partner universities in 15 countries across Europe including france, germany and spain. for information on which partner universities are available for your subject, please see the current exchange opportunities list on page 9. INTERNaTIONal ExchaNgES in addition to European Erasmus+ exchanges, there are also international exchanges available in universities in the usa, Canada and the far East. international exchanges are administered in the same way as Erasmus+ exchanges, though they do not offer the same funding. you may, however, be able to apply for additional support from student finance England. Please contact or web: Why TakE part there are so many worthwhile personal and professional benefits to studying abroad. amongst them you will: become more independent learn about different cultures give your Cv an international dimension adapt to studying in a different university in a different country develop foreign listening and language skills Enhance your employability with your experience demonstrate maturity, enthusiasm and motivational skills make new friends from all over the world! FIND OUT MORE you can read more about our students' exchange experiences on our social wall. visit social.chi.ac.uk and go to blogs. STUDENT VIEW On my exchange I made friends from all over Europe, including Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Germany as well as a couple of English students from Manchester Metropolitan. In Finland "ice swimming" is quite popular with most of the population having tried it, so it's tradition to go to the sauna for a bit and no matter how cold it is, go for a quick swim. By far one of the most exciting things I've ever done! ramesh kanabar, Ba history, university of eastern finland. for more information on international exchanges, please talk to your your subject exchange tutor. 4 5

4 WhO can participate the Erasmus+ ProgrammE is open to all full-time students Who have finished their first year of undergraduate study and Who are registered on a PartiCiPating degree. grades earned during an exchange count towards your final result and do not add any time to the length of the degree. students on a 3 year degree programme can take part in an exchange in their second year of study, (third year of study for 4 year degrees), for either semester 1 or 2 or a full year. however you must go for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months. Exchanges are specific to each subject department which has established links with other European universities, so you first need to check that your department participates in the exchange programme. part TIME STUDENTS Part-time students can also take part, but they must be full-time for the period of the exchange. OVERSEaS STUDENTS overseas fee-paying students taking part in an Erasmus+ mobility period abroad are eligible to receive an Erasmus+ grant in the same way as Eu and EEa students. however, please note that some European institutions may not accept overseas students as incoming Erasmus+ students. ExchaNgE TUTORS Each participating department in the Erasmus+ programme at the university of Chichester, has a member of academic staff who acts as representative (exchange tutor) for study abroad and is responsible for the Erasmus+ agreement with the partner university, agreeing your academic study while abroad and for providing advice and support. you will also need to liaise with your exchange tutor to find suitable modules at your host university before you apply. alternatively, if you would like to undertake a work placement, you will need to arrange this yourself, but it must be approved by your department in advance. you may also need to complete a work-based project. your exchange tutor will be able to confirm the requirements to you. Please note: work placements may have to be taken as a sandwich year placement option, speak to your tutor for more information. subject area tutor business and tourism jorge gutic Creative and digital rosey Whorlow technologies Early years tim gully Education Elaine minett English English (int. 6 funding all students accepted onto a study or work placement/traineeship from 3 to 12 months in length, through the Erasmus+ programme, are currently eligible for an Erasmus+ grant. this money is nonrepayable and is to help you fund your period abroad. for 2017/2018 the Erasmus+ grant is up to 450 per month depending on the destination and your circumstances (see tables below). the amount of grant received will also depend on the duration of the study or work period. 7 DISaDVaNTagED STUDENTS for students who have already been identified as eligible for other various widening participation supplements, there is a one-off supplementary grant of 120. the aim of this supplement is to encourage greater participation in students who might otherwise be put off due to their own financial constraints. DISabIlITy Erasmus+ provides extra funding for students with disabilities. there are forms to fill out and documents that can secure this for you. We also need to inform the host. Please provide the international office with details of your disability with your application. TUITION FEES students who are studying or working abroad on the Erasmus+ or international exchange programme for one semester will still need to pay full tuition fees as normal to the university of Chichester. all uk students who are studying or working for a full year abroad on the Erasmus+ programme, will only pay approximately 15% of their tuition fees. no fees are payable to the host university. pre-departure DOcUMENTS all students who wish to claim Erasmus+ funding for an exchange must complete all the necessary pre-departure documents. for details of the pre departure documents, please read the step by step checklist on page 17. payments you will receive 70% of the full grant amount at the start of your exchange and arrival at your host university. for semester 1 and full year exchanges, this payment will be made in september. for semester 2 exchanges, payment will be made in january. (both payments are dependant on receipt of Certificate of arrival) the amount you get paid will be made according to your estimated dates of atten as indicated in your contract, and the monthly grant rate for the country you are based in. the final 30% of your grant will be paid at the end of your exchange. if you over estimate the duration of your mobility (time away), this final payment will be less than the stated 30% to cover any overpayments already made to you. VISaS any student applying for an international exchange will need to apply for a visa during their study abroad. the host university will help you arrange this before you leave. In order to receive the initial 70% of the Erasmus+ grant you will need to return the following before you leave: 1. completed and signed erasmus+ contract 2. completed and signed learning agreement 3. completed and signed insurance disclaimer after your arrival at the exchange university/work placement: 1. completed and signed certificate of arrival 2. details of your address at the host university/placement In order to receive the final 30% of the Erasmus+ grant you will need to do the following: 1. return a signed certificate of atten 2. complete the online erasmus+ final report STUDENT VIEW I was a little nervous going on exchange as I was the only one from my university going but within days I had made friends with people from all over the world. I was not expecting as many exchange students as there was. The people I was living with soon became my family; we did most things together and met people from their courses as we were not all teachers. natasha allum, Ba pet, university of Jonkoping, sweden 12 13

8 how to apply accommodation application forms for Erasmus+ and international ExChangEs are available on our study abroad WEb PagE or from the international office Talk TO your TUTOR if you are interested in an exchange during your second year, the first thing you need to do is talk to your exchange tutor. he/she will be able to discuss your options with you and help you complete our application form and most importantly sign it. apply you will then need to send your application form to the international office who will nominate you to the partner university. this usually proceeds with the partner university sending you their own application form for you to select your modules choices. because the modules in question have to fit with your course programme at Chichester, you will need to take the advice from your exchange tutor on which to choose. the modules abroad are measured in ECts credits. EcTS credits ECts is the European Credit transfer system by which the modules and credits at European universities are made equivalent. a full year of study amounts to 60 ECts credits which is the equivalent to 120 credits. you must take at least 30 ECts credits during your exchange in order to make up for the modules you will be forgoing on your course at Chichester. FINaNcE as well as your Erasmus+ funding, you should still receive your student finance. however, you must make sure you contact them once you are accepted on the exchange to let them know. Please contact or web: you need to apply for accommodation With the host PartnEr university, not With ChiChEstEr. accommodation is not guaranteed by any of the partner universities, although it is often the case that students will receive campus accommodation. if there is no campus housing, the host university should be able to direct you to sources of private accommodation. you are advised to try and sort out your accommodation before term begins. if you are going for only one semester, you will also need to talk to accommodation here at Chichester about what options you have on how to cover your rent whilst you are away. they may be able to put you in contact with an exchange student arriving at the university, who may be looking for accommodation. Otherwise you may have to cover the cost of your accommodation at chichester while you are away

9 important information FINaNcE and budgeting although Erasmus+ provides a grant for your living allowance, you will still need to enough money to cover your travel, or have access to funds in another way. Erasmus+ funding is only released when you are already at the host university. you must also contact student Finance England prior to leaving to make them aware of your exchange placement abroad. Contact: or web: INSURaNcE the university provides insurance for students whilst they are abroad. however, it is advisable to also get a European health insurance Certificate (EhiC) which you can apply for online. if you have special medical requirements or medication, please make sure you advise us and the host university of this and consult your own gp and ensure that the relevant documentation is made available in the language of your host country. VISaS FOR NON EU citizens if you are not a citizen of an Eu member state it is your own responsibility to make the necessary consular and visa arrangements to enter the country of the host university. if you are not sure, check with the international student adviser, Paivi leivo p.leivo@chi.ac.uk or check with the partner university directly. TRaVEl it is your responsibility to arrange your own travel to your host university. bear in mind that you will also need to find your way from the airport/train station to the university. Check their website for directions and forms of transportation. the host university should provide you with travel details and an orientation welcome for when you arrive. contacts the international office will assist with your application, help you with any administrative needs, as well as be a point of contact for general enquiries during your time abroad. Please exchange@chi.ac.uk for exchange enquiries. Ian Jones, regional manager, manages the university s international recruitment, and Erasmus+/study abroad agreements i.jones@chi.ac.uk. Doreen bravery, department administrator, administers and promotes inbound and outbound international student exchanges, exchange@chi.ac.uk the international office bishop otter Campus College lane Chichester Po19 6PE We look forward to helping you embark on your travel abroad. any questions, please contact us. Erasmus+ Exchange Checklist* Step 1 Interest and approval students should discuss the opportunity to study abroad with their exchange tutor. they should then complete a university of Chichester application. the exchange tutor must sign this to confirm support of the application and return it to the international office. Step 2 Nomination to host the international office nominates the student to the host institution abroad (the student may need to complete another application form from the host also). once the host institution confirms acceptance, the international office notifies the student and exchange tutor and shares the contact details of Coordinator at the host institution. Step 3 paperwork for host students must be proactive in finding out what paperwork the host institution needs them to complete (e.g. housing forms). if the host institution does not respond, they must contact them! in addition, the international office will notify the student of all pre-departure documents required to be completed before leaving. Step 4 Module Selection students must research modules choices and discuss them with their exchange tutor. they must then complete a learning agreement and submit it to the international office (as a guide, a 15 credit module at Chichester is worth 7.5 ECts credits). Step 5 learning agreement the international officer submits the signed learning agreement to the host institution. the host institution signs and returns it. this must be completed before departure. Step 6 The contract students must complete an Erasmus+ Contract, which is provided by the international office to ensure they will receive Erasmus+ funding for the period on exchange. this requires dates of study and details of the student s bank account. Step 7 Travel and Insurance student must sign an insurance disclaimer and submit to international office and are advised to obtain a European health insurance Certificate form (online) if you do not possess one already. Step 8 Upon arrival at host Institution: students must get their Certificate of arrival signed at the start of the exchange and a Certificate of atten stamped and signed at the end of the exchange, in order to release their grant. it is vital for the atten dates to be recorded accurately on these forms for funding purposes. Step 9 Upon return to chichester on return, students must complete a british Council online report. funding will be withheld if not submitted. We also kindly ask students to provide photos and a testimony of their period abroad. Step 10 Results the host institution sends a transcript of results to the university. these grades are converted and inputted onto the student s record. the student may request a transcript from registry which shows their converted grades. 16 * Please note, for International Exchanges, fewer documents are required. 17 Please speak to the International Office for more information. 10 STUDENT VIEW My experience here has been something that has made me into a developed person, more organised, more sensitive and just generally more sensible! I have developed my knowledge, become fitter, become a better person, more understanding and it has made me see the world differently. This experience has shown me all the new opportunities life has to offer, to be know where I want to go and what I want to do when I finish university. At no point will I ever regret my time here and what I have done. evie Butler, Ba (hons) adventure education, Work placement, norway
