1 IHHS PTSO Meeting Minutes June 6, 2017 The meeting was called to order at 9:31 a.m. Attendance: Priti Bhargava, Christine Halloran, Kerry Barney, Mary Loprete, Mierette Stocker, Swati Bhutada, Melissa Russo, Richard Burton, Michael Marano, Kathleen Jerzewski, Frank Cuervels, Peter Kearney, Daniel Guido, Kate Robinson, Mrs. Roeser, Coach Leicht, Mrs. Duhig, Darlene Di Pentima, Laura Thompson, Kate Brautigan, Amy Soto, Elizabeth Benducci, Selena Guller, Carita Shelkin, John Malafis, Pam Bove, Marisol L. Kozlovski, Sandy Nugent, Margaret Michaud, Lynne Goldman, Dianne Poppe, Christine Ravettine, Debra Hannermann, Steve Josephson, Connie Fong, Heather Lorenzo, Tina Sakellakis, Linda Heberling (Trainor), Lynn Wilhelm, Tracey Merlino, Kassy Schwerzler, Patricia Tompetrini, Marci Hopkins, Jackie Wuensch, Andrea Levy Davakis Kathleen Jerzewski - Class of 2019 Teacher Advisor - Will have a counterpart next year. - Car magnet sale in the Fall. - Will also be selling Only the Brave shirts to all students in the Fall. - The Junior Prom has been booked for May 31, 2018 at The Terrace in Paramus. - The Senior Prom has been booked for June 6, 2019 at the Venetian. Priti Bhargava - PTSO Co-President - Class Advisors help raise money for the Junior and Senior Proms. They can update the PTSO twice a year to receive $500 each time to help raise money for their graduating class. - Introduction of the PTSO Board. - Question sheets are circulating. Please fill them out and submit them to the PTSO so we can get back to you with answers. Michael Marano - Director of Student Personnel Services - Mr. Marano is located in the BOE office and oversees the Special Education and Guidance Departments. - Always feel free to ask questions. - Incoming freshman schedules should have been mailed home. If schedule changes are needed, please reach out to your studentʼs guidance counselor. Prior to summer is the best time, but you can still make changes over the summer. - Mr. Marano will be here all summer. - Feel free to contact Mr. Marano with questions at: (201) X3827 or mmarano@rih.org Kate Robinson - Guidance Supervisor - This is Ms. Robinsonʼs 10 th year at IHHS.
2 - AP tests have just been finished. 484 tests were taken over a 2 week period. Scores will be available electronically July 2 nd at 2:00 pm. - The seniors had a great prom. - The seniors have been accepted to very good colleges. Some have been taken off wait lists. - Sheʼs excited to meet the incoming freshman. IHHS is a family environment. The students are great! - The Student Handbook is the best resource for incoming students. It has information on homework, attendance, bell schedules, etc. It is available on the RIH website. - The PTSO is also a very good resource. - Guidance will have a counselor available during the summer everyday 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. - The PSATs are Saturday, October 14 th. There is no flexibility with the date since it is set by College Boards. 11 th graders are encouraged to take it to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. 9 th and 10 th graders can also take it for practice. Registration starts in late August. - Option 2 for seniors: Ability to earn high school credits for any of the following: Face to face college courses. On-line college courses. Participation in a structured learning experience (internship/ apprenticeship) with a business or office. Participation in community service. Showed video of studentsʼ experiences with Option 2. Great experience to learn time management, working with adults, communication skills, etc. She can speak with anyone that is interested in Option 2. - There are 280 incoming freshman: 71 students - Eisenhower Middle School 44 students - Franklin Ave Middle School 158 students - Valley Middle School 7 students - private schools - You can contact Ms. Robinson with questions: krobinson@rih.org ( is best) or (201) X3314 Mr. Cuervels - District Business Administrator - Mr. Cuervels oversees the business side of the district. - The PTSO is an important group. - Bev MacKay and Joe Collins could not be here today. They are attending the valedictorian ceremony. - Lead testing: RIH did its own testing last year. Any issues were rectified last summer. The state imposed lead regulations this year. RIH did a new test this year. There were 15 areas that need to be rectified. 14 at IHHS. An was sent home. Will remedy any lead issues. May need to replace plumbing line and retest.
3 Daniel Guido - Assistant Principal - We will continue with shared parking next year. Information will be coming out later this week. Order of space priority: Senior with senior (can qualify for the quarterly raffle for spaces in front of school) Senior with siblings. Option 2 students (only single space - not required to share parking spaces) Seniors with licensed junior. Junior with licensed junior. - A parking space in the front of the school will be raffled for Project Graduation. - Morning drop-off: 7:20-7:30 am has the most traffic. It takes approximately 12 minutes to wait in line at this time. There are 2 lanes - the right for drop-off and the left for passing. The cafeteria is open at 7:00 am for breakfast. The media center opens at 7:30 am. BE ALERT at drop-off! - A busing should go out shortly. Richard Burton - District Supervisor Health, PE and Art Art Department: - The website for the Art Department has been revised. - RIH had a great district Art Show in the Ramapo media center (library). A RIH string quartet performed. - Last week was the Bergen County Arts Festival. Physical Education Department: - We are working on the Physical Education website. The goal is to create video clips. - The boysʼ locker room will get all new lockers. - The mountain bike program is going well. There are 12 certified instructors. We are maintaining our current bikes and purchasing some new bikes. - There is a new climbing rope wall. Mary Loprete - PTSO Recording Secretary - Motion to approve May 2017 minutes: Amy Soto, 2 nd - Darlene Di Pentima Mierette Stocker - PTSO Treasurerʼs Report - We have a $5,000 shortfall due to lack of response to the Winter Wonderland fundraiser. - $2,000 will be coming from The Economy Shop. - Checking account balance - $71, less PG17, PG18 and PG19 funds. - Motion to approve financial report - Elizabeth Benducci 2 nd - Darlene DiPentima.
4 Swati Bhutada - PTSO Vice-President - Committee chairs are listed on the website. Please volunteer for areas you are interested in. - We are need of someone to help with hospitality. - Thank you to everyone for all of their volunteer time. - A special thank you and gift presented to outgoing committee chairs: Laura Thompson Carita Shelkin Darlene DiPentima Darlene DiPentima - Economy Shop - Consignment store located in Wyckoff. - Proceeds support Wyckoff schools and RIH. - Approximately, $5,000-$7,000 is donated to IHHS each year. - We need volunteers to help work in the store. You can sign up for a few hours. Andrea Levy Davakis - FLOW Follies - Put on a parent show in March Combines Ramapo and Indian Hills parents to raise money for student scholarships RIH students will be awarded over $30,000 this evening. - You must join each year for your student to be eligible for scholarships. - Anyone can be involved - parents, teachers, administrators, alumni, etc. - Great way to get involved and meet people. - Rehearsals are from January until the show in March. - There are various volunteer roles - ad journal, make up, costumes, etc. - Need treasurer and membership chair. - Need volunteers! Elizabeth Benducci - PAC and PAA - PAC - Parent Athletic Club Will be awarding $10K in scholarships tonight. They raise money to assist in the sports teams. Next meeting (last for school year) - June 13 th at 7:00 pm. - PAA - Performing Arts Association Will be awarding $6K in scholarships tonight. They raise money to purchase items for the performing arts. They are adjourned for the school year. Laura Thompson - Lawn Signs - Lawn signs are sold to congratulate graduating seniors. The proceeds help raise money for Project Graduation. - Two size signs - 18 X 24 and 24 X Start selling them in February. - A local vendor is used.
5 Melissa Russo - Corresponding Secretary - Sent sympathy card to a family in which there was death in the immediate family. Our condolences go out to the family and friends. Priti Bhargava - PTSO Co-President - Mr. Collins is retiring. Proposal to offer Mr. Collins a $1,000 gift to give to the school on his behalf financed by the PTSO. Surplus funds will be used. Motion to approve: Elizabeth Benducci, 2 nd : Darlene DiPentima. All voted to approve unanimously. Motion approved. - Nominating Committee: Lisa Cummins, Carita Shelkin, and Amy Soto. The Recording Secretary position will be open next year. If anyone is interested, please contact one of the nominating committee members at: ihhsptso@gmail.com.
