Call to Order The meeting was called to order by President Standhart at 6:03 p.m. in the Junior/Senior High School Library Information Center II. Pledge of Allegiance President Standhart asked that all of those in attendance remain standing and observe a moment of silence in honor of the men and women who are serving in the armed forces. III. Privilege of the Floor Scott Alvarez, coach, substitute teacher and alumni addressed the Board about his tech startup program which helps student athletes get scholarships. He was upset over being denied building use for a basketball tournament. IV. Order of the Agenda On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the Order of the Agenda. V. Tenure Appointments On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED, that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, Anthony Greene be appointed to tenure in the Industrial Arts-general tenure area, effective September 1, On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED, that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, Mary Heather Guyer be appointed to tenure in the Elementary tenure area, effective September 1, At this time the Board of Education recognized this year s retirees and presented those is attendance with a flowering plant: William Griffith, Spanish Teacher Deborah Herodes, English Teacher Unable to attend: Rebecca Shaul, Science Teacher 25 years of dedicated service 30 years of dedicated service 23 years of dedicated service

2 George Skip Miller, Maintenance Mechanic Amy Packard, Account Clerk Typist Louise Rhinehart, Teacher Aide 30 years of dedicated service 17 years of dedicated service 11 years of dedicated service On a motion made by Pam Standhart, seconded by Becky Binder, the Board of Education recessed the meeting at 6:18p.m. for the purpose of hosting a reception to honor and congratulate the tenure recipients and retirees of the Middleburgh Central School District. The Board reconvened in Regular Session at 6:45 pm. VI. Minutes On a motion made by Becky Binder, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the meetings held on May 3, 2017 and May 16, VII. Reports to the Board of Education Norine Hodges, Executive Director of SCCASA, provided a drug prevention update. Mrs. Hodges provided handouts to the Board detailing the number of student contact/education hours provided to MCS from September 2016-Dececember Mrs. Hodges also provided various resources and contact numbers for support. On a motion made by Debra Bechtold, seconded by Becky Binder, the Board of Education entered Executive Session at 7:07 pm to discuss the employment history of two individuals. On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education reconvened in Regular Session at 7:26 pm. Superintendent Weaver announced that June 1 there would be a special presentation in the gymnasium sponsored by the MCS Roundtable. Andrew McKenna would be speaking about opioid addiction. All schools in the county, law enforcement and local politicians were invited to attend. Mrs. Weaver asked for the Board to support a proposal for two JV soccer teams for due to the high number of athletes. Mrs. Weaver recommended creating two assistant soccer coaches; one for a boys team and one for a girls team. Each year the decision to have a JV program will be based on the student interest and athletic director recommendation. On a motion made by Debra Bechtold, seconded by Vicki Hoerz, the Board of Education created an additional (1) boys and (1) girls assistant soccer coach for the position of JV soccer. Mrs. Weaver reviewed a recent memo received from SED regarding the 180 day calendar. SED plans on auditing school calendars in to ensure compliance with the regulations. Mrs. Weaver and Mrs. Tubbs updated the Board on the continued need for an additional Elementary Education for the school year. The Board approved the creation of an Elementary Education teacher during the February 8, 2017 Regular meeting. The position was filled with a substitute for the remainder of the school year. Mrs. Weaver will again be canvassing for a full-time teacher with certification in B-2 and Literacy to teach Kindergarten in

3 Lastly, Superintendent Weaver asked the Board for the creation of Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. She provided the Board with a draft job description for the new position. After a lengthy discussion the decision was made to vote on the new position. On a motion made by Vicki Hoerz, seconded by Becky Binder to create the position of Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, effective July 1, Principal Lori Petrosino announced that Envirothon under the guidance of Mollie Burgett, had placed first in the regional competition and now will travel to Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. Mrs. Petrosino update the Board on the Senior Class trip: 25 students would be attending, a volunteer bus driver and two chaperones. Lastly, Mrs. Petrosino provided a brief FOCUS update and highlighted the tremendous amount of work that has gone into it. School Business Manager, Terry Gillooley updated the Board on the electrical panel project and explained the work would be beginning soon and would be done during the evenings. There was a brief discussion over the findings from the building walkthrough at the Bus Garage and Elementary School. The next building walkthrough is May 31. VIII. Public Comments IX. Board of Education Workshop/Discussion President Standhart stated the BOE had met with students, prior to tonight s meeting, from the Class of 2017 to allow them an exit interview. X. Correspondence and Communication 7 Internal Claims Auditor Reports (Capital #10, Federal #26, #28, #29; General #37, #38; School Lunch Fund #23) Thank you note from the Elementary Literacy Specialists XI. Personnel On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the following Personnel items and resolutions: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Middleburgh Central School District hereby accepts the recommendation of the Superintendent to appoint Alex H. Johnson to a four (4) year probationary appointment as a teacher of English in the Secondary English tenure area, commencing September 1, 2017 to August 31, Mr. Johnson holds initial certification in English Language Arts (Grades 5-9). A necessary factor in consideration for tenure at the end of this probationary appointment, will be receipt of professional certification and fulfillment of all other requirements of the New York State Education Department, by Mr. Johnson, no later than the expiration date of his probationary appointment. The Superintendent recommends approval of Ross Pacatte-PSAT/SAT Math Review teacher for the school year.

4 On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the following Personnel items and resolutions: BE IT RESOLVED, that upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board of Education approve the acceptance of the resignation of Elizabeth Catalano from her position as Music Teacher, effective June 30, 2017, with regrets and best wishes. Mentor duties shall commence on September 1, 2017 pending Ms. May s receipt of certification. The Superintendent recommends approval of the following non-certified substitutes for the school year: Megan Kimball Marie Haley XI. Financial On a motion made by Becky Binder, seconded by Vicki Hoerz, the Board of Education approved the following Financial items: School Business Manager recommends approval of the acceptance of the Extra Classroom Reports for the month ended March 31, School Business Manager recommends approval of the acceptance of the Treasurer Reports for the month ended April 30, School Business Manager recommends approval of the following appropriation and revenue status reports, dated May 17, School Business Manager recommends acceptance of the following bid for $42,000, having received input from Mosaic Associates, project architects and engineers, for Electrical to DLC Electric, LLC, 479 State Route 40, Troy, NY XII. Old Business On a motion made by Debra Bechtold, seconded by Ernest Kuehl, the Board of Education approved the following policy: File: 8420 Open Exercise Vote: 5-yes. Motion Carried File: 8242 Civility, Citizenship and Character Education was tabled for a third read. XIII. New Business

6 On a motion made by Ernest Kuehl, seconded by Debra Bechtold, the Board of Education approved the following New Business items and resolutions: Superintendent recommends approval of the CSE/CPSE recommendations from meeting held on April 5, April 26, May 1, May 3 and May 5, Superintendent recommends the approval of the Environthon Club s overnight trip to Hobart & William Smith College from May 24 to May 25, Superintendent recommends the approval of the Senior Class Trip to Six Flags New Jersey and Ocean City, NJ from June 2 to June 4, Superintendent recommends the leasing of one bus to the Middleburgh Junior Bowlers for the May 21, 2017 trip to the Albany Museum and US Slater. The Superintendent recommends approval of the addendum to the contract agreement between Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA) and Middleburgh Central School District entered on March 1, The Superintendent recommends approval of the Memorandum of Agreement by and between the Middleburgh Central School District and the Middleburgh Central School Teachers Association dated May 8, The Superintendent recommends approval of the Memorandum of Agreement by and between the Middleburgh Central School District and the Middleburgh Central School Related Personnel Association dated May 3, XIV. Board action to recess/adjourn meeting On a motion made by Debra Bechtold, seconded by Becky Binder, the Board of Education entered Executive Session at 9:12 p.m. for the purpose of contract negotiation and the employment history of one individual.
