1 Shaw High School Contest, Scholarship and Volunteer Opportunities The Cleveland Clinic Office of Civic Education Initiatives summer internships are structured, 9 week, paid learning experiences that require students to work 40 hours each week alongside an assigned Cleveland Clinic professional on meaningful research projects in real life work environments. Interns earn Post secondary enrollment options college credit. Internships are offered in creative learning; nursing; medical laboratory; pharmacy; public health; radiology; respiratory therapy and science. Application deadline is February 4, US Bank is offering scholarships to college bound seniors planning to enroll in a four year college or university. A total of forty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Recipients are selected through a random process. Applications are accepted online from October through March. Princeton University is awarding $1,000 to the student grades 9 12 who is actively doing outstanding work in their schools or communities to advance the cause of race relations. Deadline for application entry is January 31, NASA provides high school students 16 and older with a Shadowing experience. For students interested in science, mathematics, and/or engineering, the Shadowing program allows students to explore career possibilities in research and environmental development. Deadline for application submission is January 31, The Western Reserve Bank of Cleveland is sponsoring a creative writing contest Be the Change You Want to See! Juniors and seniors are encouraged to write about the intersection of economics, public policy and social change and your place in it. Savings bonds are awarded to the top three winners. 2 The Wick Poetry High School Competition, Excellence in Action is open to Ohio high school seniors who will enroll as full time students at Kent State University. 1 st place receives a 4 year renewable $4,000 scholarship; 2 nd place receives a 4 year renewable $3,000 scholarship and 3 rd place receives a 4 year renewable $1,500 scholarship. Entry deadline is February 1, The Magic Johnson Foundation recognizes students for outstanding academic achievement, leadership and commitment to the community. A scholarship in the honor of Taylor Michael (Chief Operating Officer for Magic Johnson Foundation) is offered to a graduating senior with a 2.5 GPA, who intends to attend a 4 year college or university in the fall. Applicants will be judged on essay submission, academic achievement and evidence of leadership in the community. Deadline for application is February 5, The Cavaliers and FirstMerit Bank is offering 10 high school seniors with a $2,000 scholarship for the school year. Eligible seniors will submit a 500 word essay, an entry form, submit a transcript, ACT/SAT scores and one letter of recommendation. Applications are due by February 14, Cargill presents a great opportunity for 350 high school seniors who plan to continue their education beyond high school. The awards are in the amount of $1,000 with an additional $200 to the winning student school library. Eligible students demonstrate academic achievement, leadership in extracurricular activities and civic activities. Deadline for application submission is February 15, USA Funds will award $1,500 scholarships to students with economic needs. High school seniors intending to pursue postsecondary education, and demonstrate financial need, are encouraged to apply online by February 15, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is awarding two $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a four year college and pursue a career in television or television related field. 3 Cleveland Scholarship Programs is sponsoring a scholarship opportunity for students whose homes have been affected by work related injuries. Eligible students are college bound seniors with a 2.5 GPA, 18 ACT or 860 SAT score who will write a compelling 500 word essay on when a work related injury hits home. The Ohio Veterinary Medical Association presents the Veterinary Exploration Conference and College Fair on Saturday, February 26, Registration is complimentary to the first 300 high school junior and senior students. Deadline for completed applications is February 19, The Zonta Club of Cleveland, a service organization working to improve legal, political, economic, health and professional status of women is sponsoring its 8 th annual Women in History Essay contest for high school girls. Deadline for admission is March 4, The Cavaliers and Majestic Steele in conjunction with Cuyahoga, Lakeland and Lorain Community Colleges are pleased to offer six $2,000 scholarships for students pursuing manufacturing careers at the above mentioned institutions for 2010 Eligible seniors should complete the scholarship application, provide a transcript and complete the 2010 FAFSA. 4 The Tzu Chi Foundation is pleased to announce its annual scholarship program for students with financial need and outstanding academic achievements. The opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship is open to all high school seniors. Deadline for application is March 6, The Joyce Ivy Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities to high achieving female sophomore and junior students to attend a summer academic program at an Ivy League college. For summer of 2011 there are full and partial scholarships to Pre College summer programs. Scholarships cover tuition, room and board, books, fees and travel to and from the campus. Application deadline is March 14, 2011 however early application is encouraged. Gannon University is offering need based academic merit scholarships to students interested in engineering or computer science at Gannon. There are 5 awards being made in the Fall of 2011 for one year scholarships renewable for up to 4 years. Students must apply to Gannon, possess a 3.0 in math and science classes, and demonstrate financial need through submission of the FAFSA. March 30 th is the deadline for receipt of all materials. The Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools has provided information packets on 280 scholarships available ranging from $2,000 to $12,110. These scholarships are open to Ohio high school graduates for the 2011 academic year. Deadline for application is April 1, The William D. Squires Educational Foundation, Inc will award 12 scholarships to Ohio high school seniors in the class of Twelve 4 year $3,000 renewable scholarships will be awarded based upon financial need to highly motivated seniors with good character and specific career goals with a 3.2 GPA. 5 The Cleveland Branch NAACP offers the Carl B. Stokes scholarship to high school seniors who are discouraged from pursuing their educational goals due to limited financial resources.
