1 DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH A meeting of the board of studies in English was held in the Department of English on 5 th March, 2014 at 2.30 pm. and the following resolutions were passed by the board. Resolved 1. to replace the existing grammar book Communication Skills for Technical Students by T. M. Farhathulla, prescribed for the I Year B Stream students, with Developing Language Skills edited by Board of Editors from the academic year onwards; 2. to retain the syllabus and to continue with the existing books for BBA and AELT (B.Sc - Electronics Technology) courses for the academic year ; 3. that the Department should bring out an English grammar work book to be used in the classroom by the B Stream students of General English of both years from the academic year onwards; and 4. to maintain status quo with regard to the syllabuses of General English of the I and II Year A Stream, and all the six semesters of English Literature courses (AGH, NGH, and DGH). 3 DEPARTMENT OF HINDI The Board of Studies meeting of Hindi was held on 3 rd March, 2014 at 2.00 p.m. in the Conference Hall. : 1. It is resolved to continue the existing syllabus for I Year B.A., B.Sc., & B.Com. Students for 1 st and 2 nd semesters for the year The pattern of the question paper and principles of valuation remain the same. 2. It is resolved to continue the existing syllabus for II Year B.A., B.Sc., & B.Com. 4 DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT The board of studies meeting for the academic year was held on 3 rd March, 2014 in the conference hall at 2:00p.m and the following resolutions are passed. 1. 5 DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS The meeting of the Board of Studies of Mathematics was held in the mathematics staff room on at 3.00 pm, and the following resolutions were made. 1. It was resolved to offer subject electives: a) Graph Theory, Languages and Finite State Machines, b) Numerical Analysis and c) Special Functions in Semester III as Mathematics paper IV and skill electives: a) Discrete Mathematics (Lattices, Boolean algebra and Recurrence Relations), b) Complex Analysis and c) Operations Research in Semester VI as Mathematics paper VIII for admitted batches onwards with effect from the academic year It was resolved to continue the existing pattern for other papers. 3. It was resolved to approve the syllabi of a) Paper-I (Differential equations, Vector Calculus and Laplace Transforms) for I B.Sc (Electronics Technology) & I B.Sc (Computer Science and Engineering) b) Paper I (Business Mathematics) for I B.Com (Professional) c) Paper - III (Discrete Mathematics for Electronics Technology) and Paper IV (Numerical Analysis for Electronics Technology) for II B.Sc (Electronics Technology) A. 6 DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS The following resolutions were unanimously passed in the BOS meeting held on at 2.00 PM Resolutions for B.Sc course 1. It was resolved to retain the existing syllabi for the academic year of Semesters I, II, III, IV, V and VI. 2. It was resolved to introduce R-Software in paper IV practical along with existing SPSS. Resolution for BSc (Election Technology) course 3. It was resolved to restructure the existing syllabi for the academic year of B.Sc (Electronics Technology) Statistics paper titled: Probability and Statistics for Engineers of Semester II. Resolutions for B.Com course 4. It was resolved to retain the existing syllabi for the academic year of B.Com (General) and B.Com (Computers) of Semesters I and II. 5. It was resolved to restructure the existing syllabi for the academic year of B.Com (professional) course, Business Statistics paper of Semester I. Resolutions for BBA course 6. It was resolved to retain the existing syllabi for the academic year for BBA Business Statistics of Semester I 7. It was resolved to replace Simplex of linear Programming with Mathematical formulation of linear programming problem with two variables in unit IV of Business Mathematics of Semester II for the academic year Dr. N. 7 DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS The meeting of the Board of Studies of Physics was held on at A.M in the Physics Department. Following resolutions were passed unanimously after thorough discussion. 1. It was resolved to continue the same syllabus for all theory and practical papers for the academic year A proposal to start a new course B.Sc (Maths, Physics, and Renewable Energy) was examined thoroughly by the Board of Studies and the three year scheme along with the I year syllabus (Renewable Energy) was approved and was resolved to request Rev.Fr. 8 DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY The board of studies meeting of Chemistry was held on 04 th March 2014 at 2.00 PM in Chemistry Staff room. The following resolutions were passed unanimously. It was resolved to shift: The Chapter Structural theory in Organic Chemistry from I Semester Part B of Paper-I to II Semester Part B of Paper-II. The Chapters Molecular symmetry & Evaluation of analytical data from IV Semester Part B of Paper-IV to I Semester Part B of Paper-I. The Chapter General principles of Inorganic quantitative analysis from IV Semester Part B of Paper-4 to I Semester Part B of Paper-I. The Chapter Theory of qualitative analysis from I Semester Part B of Paper-I to I Semester Part A of Paper-I. It was also resolved to interchange I & II Year B.Sc Practicals i.e., I B.Sc. Laboratory Course - I and II B.Sc. Laboratory Course II. A proposal to start a new course B.Sc (Maths, Chemistry, and Renewable Energy) was examined thoroughly by the Board of Studies and was resolved to request Rev.Fr. 9 DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY The meeting of Board of studies in Botany was held on 24 th Feb, 2014 at 2 P.M in the Botany Staff room. All the members participated actively, after thorough discussion on the syllabus, theory & practical the following resolutions were approved by the board of studies. It was resolved: 1. to rearrange Symptoms of plant diseases in Unit- IV of Paper I (Semester I) 2. to delete Triple fusion and to include Hetero fertilization in Unit I of Paper III (Semester III) 3. to shift the topic Preparation and Preservation of Herbaria from unit I of Paper- VI- (Skill based- Medicinal Botany) to paper-v(biosystematics and Plant Physiology) Unit-I 4. to continue II, IV, VI( Molecular Biology), VII & VIII Papers (Both theory and practical) Dr. B. 10 SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES The meeting of Board of studies in Science, Technology & Development and Environmental studies was held on 25 th Feb, 2014 at 2 P.M in the Botany Staff room. All the members participated actively and after thorough discussion on the syllabus, the following resolutions were approved by the board of studies. 1. In Science, Technology & Development (Semester III), it was resolved (a) to delete communication from Part a of Unit III, (b) to replace color blindness, hemophilia, turner s syndrome, klienfelters syndrome with important Communicable diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Typhoid, Tuberculosis and Basics of Cancer in Part b of Unit III (c) to rearrange the topics in Unit IV and (d) to delete the headings: agriculture biotechnology and food technology in Parts a & b of Unit V. 2. 11 DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY The meeting of the Board of studies in Zoology was held on 7 th March, 2013, at AM in the college Conference Hall. The Board discussed at length the total syllabus and the following resolutions were passed unanimously. 1. It was resolved to continue the existing syllabus for the academic year for all the semesters and for all the papers. 2. It was resolved to change the syllabus of the General Elective Pharma Drug Marketing to be restricted to a single Semester. The changed syllabus is appended. K. 12 DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY The meeting of Board of studies in Microbiology was held in the Department staff room on at 2 PM. All the members participated actively and discussed about the Microbiology syllabus, model paper of theory & practicals for 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd years B.Sc and projects for the final year students and the following resolutions were made. It was resolved to include ABC symport and antiport mechanisms in active transport in unit I, paper III of semester III It was resolved to continue the existing syllabus for the remaining papers for the academic year K. 13 DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY A meeting of the Board of Studies in Biotechnology was held on at 2:30 p.m. in the Department Staff Room. After reviewing and discussing the syllabus, the Board passed the following resolutions unanimously to take effect from the academic year Resolutions: 1. It was resolved to include the topics Types of Patents, Enforcing Patents, Plagiarism and Scientific Publications and ethical concerns in Unit V of Paper VI titled Fermentation Technology. 2. It was resolved to delete the topic - Polyclonal Antibodies in Unit IV of paper VII titled Immunotechnology. 3. It was resolved to include the topic - The ethical concerns in the use of plant, animal and human cells in Unit V of Paper VIII titled Plant and Animal Biotechnology. 4. It was resolved to include Two Genetics Practicals viz. Karyotyping and calculations of mono hybrid and dyhybrid ratios in the place of Alpha-Amylase activity and Separation of plant pigments by paper chromatography in Practical Paper- I, titled Cell Biology, Genetics and Biomolecules. 5. It was resolved to include Two Practicals viz. 14 PASSED IN THE BOARD OF STUDIES OF FOOD TECHNOLOGY HELD ON 4 TH MARCH 2014 AT AM IN THE ZOOLOGY DEPARTEMNT STAFF ROOM. 1. It is resolved to offer two papers of study from the semesters III to VI, as the course is multidisciplinary, skill oriented and industry ready, innovative programme. 2. It is resolved to approve the appended syllabus framework for B.Sc Food Technology from the academic year It is resolved to recommend the introduction of following General Electives from the academic year to the students of Food Technology in particular and to others students general. 1. Principles of Marketing 2. Food Supply Chain Management and 3. Production and Operational Management. 4. It is resolved to recommend to the Academic Council to start new B.Sc Programme with Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Chemistry combination from the academic year It is also resolved to approve the syllabus for Biochemistry for Semester I and II for the academic year G.M. 15 DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE The meeting of the Board of Studies in Computer Science was held on 24 th February, 2014 at 10AM in the Degree Computer Lab and the following resolutions were passed unanimously 1. It was resolved to continue the existing syllabi for all papers of I and II B. Sc., Computer Science for the academic year It was resolved to follow the updated syllabus for Data Communications and Networking (Elective) Paper VIII for III B.Sc., Computer Science in semester VI from the academic year It was resolved to merge Desktop Publishing - I & Desktop Publishing - II of II and III semesters of B. Sc., Visual Communication as Paper II - Desktop Publishing for I B.Sc Visual Communication in semester II from academic year It was resolved to introduce new title Media Technologies as Paper III for II B.Sc., Visual Communication in semester III from academic year It was resolved to delete Network Programming Practical VIII and conduct Testing Tools as Practical VIII for III B.Sc., Computer Science from academic year It was resolved to offer the following titles for II B.Sc Electronics Technology: III Semester: Data Base Management Systems IV Semester: Principles of Operating System A. 16 DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS The meeting of board of studies in Electronics was held on Tuesday 04 th March 2014 at 3.00 pm in the Electronics lab and following members were present. The following resolutions were unanimously passed: 1. It was resolved to merge the papers titled TV & Wireless Communication and Optical Fiber Communication of VI semester of B. Sc., (Electronics) as Paper IX titled Advanced Communication, with effect from the academic year It was resolved to introduce new title Electronic Instrumentation as paper X in VI semester of B. 17 DEPARTMENT OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION The followings were the resolutions passed in the Board of Studies Meeting held on February 25, 2014 at 2.00 P.M. 1. It was resolved to include the topic Management of Social Media in unit 3 in the subject Media Culture and Society in Semester It was resolved to include the topic MIDI and VST Technology in unit 2 in the subject Audiography in Semester It was resolved to include the topic 3D TV in unit 2 in the subject Basic Television Production Theory in Semester 4. 18 DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY The meeting of the Board of Studies in History was held on 3 rd March 2014 in the conference hall at am 1. It was unanimously resolved to continue the existing syllabi, model papers and pattern of examinations for all papers from paper I to VIII. 2. It was also unanimously resolved to introduce a new paper, entitled General Studies in place of the existing general elective paper titled Travel and Tourism management. C. 19 CONTEMPORARY INDIA: ECONOMY, POLITY AND SOCIETY The meeting of Board of Studies in Contemporary India was held on 3 rd March 2014; Monday in the conference hall. The Board felt that the existing syllabus of Contemporary India is a little vast, as only two hours per week are allotted. Hence, the following resolutions are passed unanimously. 1. In Unit I lessons 2 & 3 dealing with features of Indian agriculture and Population in India are resolved to be deleted. Further the board authorized to bring lesson- I of Unit V dealing with Impact of Globalization on Indian economy into Unit I as lesson no In Unit II lesson no I dealing with factors responsible for the rise of Indian Nationalism was resolved to be deleted. 3. In Unit III lesson no 4 dealing with 73 & 74 Constitutional amendments are resolved to be deleted. 4. In Unit No IV, lesson no 4 dealing with Gender Equality is resolved to be deleted. 5. In Unit No V, lesson no 1 dealing with Impact of Globalization on Indian Economy is resolved to be shifted as lesson no -2 in Unit I. 6. 20 DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS The meeting of the Board of Studies of Economics was held on 26 th February 2014 at 2 PM in the conference hall and the following resolutions were made 1. It was resolved to include the topic Ordinal Utility in Unit II of paper I entitled Micro Economic theory. 2. It was resolved to include the topic Social Accounting in Unit I of paper II entitled Macro Economic theory. 3. It was resolved to change the topic Rural Employment as Rural Farm and Non-Farm employment in Unit III, to delete Significance of Rural Industries and to add Local Government Finance to Unit IV and to add the topic Insurance to Unit V of paper V entitled Rural Development. 4. It was resolved to delete the topic Latest Finance Commission in Unit V and to include the topic Causes for the raise of Public Expenditure in Unit III of paper VI entitled Public Finance. 5. It was resolved to delete the topics Difference between Environmental Economics and Resource Economics, Environment and Ethics, Environmental Economics and Environmental Policy in Unit I of Paper VII entitled Environmental Economics. 6. It was Resolved to add the topic Difference between balance of Trade and Balance of Payments, Foreign exchange Rate, Fixed and Flexible Exchange Rates, Mechanism to rectify Balance of Payment Crisis to Unit III of paper VIII entitled International Trade. 7. It was resolved to add the topic Law of Equimarginal Utility to Unit II and Economies of Scale to Unit IV of paper I (I B.Com) entitled Business Economics. 8. It was resolved to add the topic Discriminating Monopoly to Unit I and also to add Ricardian Theory of Rent, Modern theory of Rent, Quasi Theory of rent, Subsistence Theory of Wages, Marginal Productivity Theory of Wages, Loanable Theory of Interest, Liquidity preference theory of Interest, Dynamic Theory of Profits, Innovative Theory of profits to Unit II of paper II (I B.Com) entitled Business Economics. 21 DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE The Board of Studies of the Department of Political science was held on at A.M in the conference hall. Resolutions: 1) It was unanimously resolved to continue the existing syllabi of Papers of 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th Semesters without any change. 2) It was unanimously resolved to bring in the following changes in Paper V(III BA) entitled Western Political Thought (Pol 355) of semester V a. To delete (c) Plato s theory of Communism from the Unit I ; b. To add (c) Nation State and Power Politics under the Unit II ; and c. To delete theories of surplus value and to retain the Theory of class war and to rename it (c) as the theory of class war in the Unit V. 3) It was unanimously resolved to bring in the following changes in Paper VI (III BA) International Relations (Pol 356) a. To delete the topic differences between International Relations and International Politics and to include in its place (b) National Interest: Meaning, Types, and Methods of promoting it. b. To delete (d) India s role in UN Peace-keep missions abroad. c. To delete European Union from c of Unit IV entitled Major issues in International Relations. d. To shift (d) NPT and CTBT to Unit V as the topic (b) e. To delete (b) Gender Justice- Problems and Prospects (c) Environmental issues The Kyoto Protocol & The Copenhagen summit 09. 4) It was unanimously resolved to bring in the following changes in the Paper VII (III BA) entitled Public Administration (Code 367) a. To delete (f) ecological approach of FW Riggs and (g) Decision making Theory Herbert Simon from Unit II b. To add Lok Pal Act, 2013, as (e) in Unit IV entitled Public control over Administration 5) It was unanimously resolved to bring in the following changes in the Paper VIII (III BA) entitled Indian Political Thought (Code 368) a. To delete (b) Kingship and (c) welfare state and to include (b) Polity in its Place b. To delete (a) Kingship under Kautilya in Unit I c. To add topics Democracy and Freedom to ( c) of Unit II and to delete (d) role of Mahatma in India s freedom struggle d. Resolutions passed unanimously: 1. The minutes of the previous Board of Studies meeting were readout and approved. 2. Resolved to continue the existing syllabi for the B.Com (General) and B.Com (Computers) Courses 3. 23 DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION The BOS meeting of Department of Business Administration was held on 4 th March 2014 at a.m in Conference Hall. The following resolutions are passed unanimously. 1) It was resolved to reorganize the course structure with effect from the academic year ) It was resolved to restructure the syllabus of Paper-V (Human Resource Management) of V Semester and to shift to IV Semester as paper IV. 3) It was resolved to introduce a new paper titled Organizational Behaviour in V semester as Paper I. 4) It was resolved to delete Practical Auditing (Paper V) of IV Semester. 5) It was resolved to change the title of Business Entrepreneurship (Paper-IV) of III semester as Entrepreneurship Development and to transfer the paper from III semester to V semester as Paper-II. 6) It was resolved to transfer the Paper-II (Project Management) from V semester to VI semester as Paper-II (Project Management). 7) It was also resolved to add the topic Code of Ethics in unit III of Business Ethics (Paper-II in V semester) and also changed unit titles. 8) It was resolved to transfer Research Methodology (Paper-IV) from IV semester to Paper-IV in III semester. 24 DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC/DANCE (CLASSICAL), ANIMATION DESIGN & SOUND The board of studies meeting of the Department of Music/Dance (Classical), Animation Design & Sound was held on 05th March 2013 at 3.30 p.m. in the Conference hall. 1. The syllabus for the V & VI Semesters was thoroughly discussed and it was resolved to adopt the new syllabus for the III year from the academic year It was also resolved to continue the existing syllabus for the 1 st and 2 nd years for the Academic Year Fr. 25 DEPARTMENT OF ETHICS AND RELIGION A meeting of the Board of Studies in Ethics and Religion was held on Tuesday, 25 th February 2014 at A.M. in the Conference Hall. The Board passed the following resolutions unanimously. 1. It was resolved to request the college administration to bring Andhra Loyola Extension Programme for Rural Transformation (ALERT)/Andhra Loyola Assistance for Neighbourhood Advancement (ALANA) under the purview of the Department. 2. It was resolved to add a Lesson on Values in Problem Solving in the II Semester Syllabus. Dr.K.Job Sudarshan
