2 J. F. Allen Schlarship Applicatin Deadline: March 31st, The J.F. Allen Schlarship was started in 1992 t hnur Jhn Allen wh served Teachers Life frm 1969 t1991. The schlarship is awarded t students wh exemplify excellence, achievement and invlvement in their schls and cmmunities. The Teachers Life Schlarship prgram is fr children and grandchildren f its members and represents just ne aspect f the Teachers Life's grwing fraternal benevlence prgrams and services. Tw Teachers Life Schlarship recipients may receive $3,000 each year fr up t fur years r upn cmpletin f the first degree, whichever is sner. The award becmes effective when the winner is enrlled in a full-time pst-secndary prgram. Financial need is nt a factr in the selectin f a schlarship winner. Cntinuatin and renewal f the schlarship will be subject t the fllwing cnditins: 1. The winner must remain a full-time student and maintain academic prgress frm year t year (minimum A r 80% average); and 2. The Teachers Life membership thrugh which the winner was eligible fr a schlarship must remain in gd standing. ELIGIBILITY T be eligible t apply fr a schlarship yu must: 1. Be a child r grandchild f an active member f Teachers Life. The member must be in gd standing cntinuusly frm the first f September f the year preceding the year in which the schlarship applicatin is submitted. 2. Carry a minimum A r 80% grade pint average in yur last year(s) f secndary schl. 3. Be preparing t graduate frm high schl this year, as a grade 12 student, and be pursuing a full-time pst-secndary prgram fr the fllwing schl year, at an institutin which is a member f, r recgnized by Universities Canada. 4. Cmplete the attached schlarship applicatin frm in full. Ensure that all the required supprting dcuments are submitted with yur applicatin. This includes fficial grade reprts, summary f activities, letters f reference based n yur schl and cmmunity invlvement, as well as a letter f assessment. Incmplete applicatins will nt be cnsidered. 5. Be available t attend an interview during the mnth f May at the ffice f Teachers Life. If yu cannt make the interview in persn n that specific date, fr whatever reasn, yu will nt be eligible fr the schlarship. SELECTION OF WINNERS Academic perfrmance is a key cnsideratin. Hwever, in evaluating semi-finalists, ur cmmittee als weighs such factrs as invlvement in schl and cmmunity activities which demnstrate leadership and initiative, recmmendatins frm yur cmmunity, schl staff and fficials, as well as persnal statements frm the applicants. In May, the Schlarship and Bursary Cmmittee will bth select and invite finalists t attend an interview at the ffice f Teachers Life, in Trnt. Interview finalists will be asked t cmplete a release frm and prvide a grad pht. Bth items are t be submitted at the time f the interview. The schlarship winner(s) will be ntified in June. All decisins f the cmmittee are final and the award will nly becme effective when the chsen recipient(s) is/are enrlled as (a) full-time student(s). The schlarship funds are issued in the name f the recipient and will fllw cnfirmatin f enrlment in full-time pst-secndary studies. COMPLETING AND SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION Fr yur applicatin t be cnsidered, all sectins f the applicatin frm must be cmpleted and all the required supprting dcuments and infrmatin submitted by the psted deadline. Befre yu send yur applicatin t Teachers Life, be sure that yu have included: 1. An assessment cmpleted by an fficial frm yur current schl (e.g. Guidance Cunselr, Principal, Department Head, Teacher). This letter shuld reflect n yur attitude, effrt and invlvement in schl. If yu are nt currently enrlled in full-time studies, have yur last schl prvide this sectin. 2. A minimum f tw letters f reference identifying yur level f invlvement in cmmunity and schl activities. The letters shuld be n riginal letterhead, dated and signed by each reference detailing yur attitude, effrt, and invlvement in bth schl and cmmunity activities. 3. A cmplete Summary f Activities that reflects hw yu have served the schl/cmmunity and shwn initiative thrughut yur secndary schl years. Please nte that these activities shuld be abve and beynd the necessary hurs required fr btaining any schl credit. 4. A scan f fficial grade transcripts fr yur mst recent and previus schl year.
