Hey Members, Guests & Supporters, Summer has finally arrived and that means its Newsletter time from your Golden West chapter of the ISEE. If you were not able to make the 2018 Chapter business meeting on February 24 th, 2018 due to illness (which hit many of you) or prior plans, I will give you a rundown. As you know we celebrated our 30 th anniversary. It was a chance to celebrate with current and past members as well as the past Officers and Board Members that kept this chapter running for the last 30 years. The two guys that started this thing, Wes Bender and Dale Nies were on hand to give their story on the chapters beginnings. Past presidents Gordon Coleman, Randy Messer, Sandy Figures and past secretary Bruce Townes were also on hand to celebrate. I can t forget Past President, current board member, current Head Chef and Newsletter editor, Mike Burneson and his wife Sue for delivering another outstanding dinner. Thanks to my wife Donna, Ladd & Maggie Stephenson and Gordon Coleman for their contributions. The music and table settings were orchestrated by my brother and sister in law, Paul and Barbara Drake. Last, but not least, we can always count on our cleanup crew organized by the Alpha Explosives crew. Thanks everyone. We try to have a guest speaker at every business meeting. This year was no exception. It was a honor to have the Executive director of the ISEE, Winston Forde, come all the way out west to support and participate in our meeting. Winston discussed how difficult it is to keep the chapters going and active. He commended the membership on how far we have come in these thirty years. Winston proceeded to hand out the chapter awards for, The Chapter Website and our 30 th year milestone award in person. Winston ended by pledging that the ISEE would continue to support the chapters in the future. Continued on next page

2 We conducted our elections as well. The board and officers want to give a big thank you to Danniell Edwards for keeping us organized and in compliance with the ISEE for over four years of dedicated service. Thank You Danniell!! A big welcome to member Joe Stack elected to take on the duties of secretary. Welcome aboard Joe! Thank You to Jerry Fulghum and Mike Burneson for extending their commitments for another two years and Ladd Stephenson for his commitment and participation as a board member. I want to thank the chapter for electing me as a Lifetime Member of the Chapter. I truly appreciate the honor as I continue as your president working alongside the hard-working past and present members, officers and board members of this chapter. We also grew as a chapter thanks to longtime members Gerald Hackler and Eric Bennett. Gerald referred Seth Moody, Todd Quigley, Daniel Reeves, and Marc Sapien. Eric referred Harry Douglas and Dennis Gatchlian. Mike Dewitt also signed on as a member. Welcome to the chapter guys! Thanks, Gerald & Eric for your help and continued support! The business conducted beyond the elections included the membership accepting a motion to increase the scholarship award, changes to the business meeting date and continue the Sporting Clays Scholarship shoot in July. Thanks again to all of sponsors that have supported us over the last thirty years. We couldn t of done it with out you. 3 Editor s Notes It was a real treat to see so many of the members that have not been able to attend recently and was a real disappointment to not see the other past officers that were not able to attend because of illness as Mike C pointed out or other commitments but, those of us that attended were provided with more crab and tri tip than they could eat. We had a fun evening. It was a real honor to have Mr. Winston Forde speak. Congratulations to Mike Chiurato on your Life Time Membership Award you have served the chapter with honor. As promised those members that attended will soon see a jacket in the mail. I have attached a photo of the jacket and a photo of Mike Chiurato receiving one of the three awards he received on the chapters behalf at the International Conference. Lower right: I think I heard our Treasurer Gerald Jerry Fulghum saying how much Crab did you buy. This crew ate 200 pounds of crab, forty pounds of tri tip, thirty pounds of chicken, ten pounds of pasta with two gallons of marinara and enough salad to feed a army. We had enough desserts to put the entire group into diabetic shock. We did have a couple of adult beverages as well. It was a great evening. Thank you for your support and taking time to attend. 5

Bender Scholarship Fund A scholarship of $1000 per semester will be awarded to a qualifying individual who is relative to an employee in the explosives industry or related field and who wishes to pursue collegiate studies. Scholarship Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors or students already enrolled in college that are related to an employee in the explosives industry or another industry that uses explosives may apply for the scholarship. Judging Committee: All received scholarship applications will be reviewed and judged by a panel consisting of the Chapter Officers and Board, including the Past President of the GWC or their respective designees. Scholarship Disbursement: The winning applicant will be issued the scholarship on an annual basis, totaling one thousand dollars per semester. Academic Requirement: The winning applicant must maintain at least a grade point average of 3.0 in order to remain eligible for the scholarship. Deadline for Submission: To be considered, applications must be submitted to the Chapter by June 15 th. Selection of the successful applicant will be made by July 15 th. The successful applicant will be notified by August 1 st with the first scholarship check sent to the recipient by August 15 th. Application Process: Please complete the following: 1. 8 Golden West Chapter 6 th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser When: 8:00 am on Saturday July 14th Where: The Coon Creek Trap & Skeet Club 5393 Waltz Rd, Lincoln, CA Cost: $ per person Coon Creek Trap & Skeet Club Located in Lincoln California The cost is $ per person. For that $100.00, each participant will get 100 shells, a two and a half hour round of sporting clays and lunch. Those that want to bring RV's can for $10.00 per night. They get electrical and water. They need to reserve in advance. We will have an early lunch after we shoot. We will hold a 50/50 raffle and we will hold a raffle where you could win a gift certificate to Bass Pro Shop. All revenue from this event will go directly to our scholarship fund. We will issue trophies to several different categories. Team Awards, Top Gun Men, Top Gun Women and Top Gun Youth. Coon Creek offers many different shooting disciplines, from Trap, International Trap sometimes called Olympic Trap, Bunker Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays.

Sadly, no pun in ten did. What's the difference between a hippo and a Zippo? One is really heavy, and the other is a little lighter. Share On Can a kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building? Of course! The Empire State Building can't jump. You ever get cold, stand in the corner of a room for a while. They're usually 90 degrees. What did the duck say when it bought lipstick? "Put it on my bill." Share On What's the best thing about Switzerland? I don't know, but the flag is a big plus.
