Art. 1 Beneficiaries This announcement is open to all Politecnico di Milano PhD candidates. Art. 2 Description of the project This call provides scholarships to support short-term research exchanges between PhD candidates of IDEA League partner institutions. These grants are awarded based on academic merit. The grants are made available to IDEA League students who want to do a short-term research stay at an IDEA League partner university. For example, the development of experimental and/or theoretical parts of their PhD theses would fall under this category. The grant is awarded by the sending IDEA League university on a competitive basis. All Politecnico di Milano PhD candidates, with or without scholarship, may apply for this call. Grant recipients must be enrolled as regular PhD candidates at Politecnico di Milano throughout all the research exchange. The grant amount equals to 600 EUR gross per month, inclusive of the taxes owed by the Politecnico di Milano. The research grants distributed within this call may cover up to 30,000 EUR gross, inclusive of the taxes owed by the Politecnico di Milano. Research exchanges from 2 weeks to 6 months are covered, with preference given to short-time periods. 2 Art. 3 Application Prior to the application submission, candidates must contact their supervisor in order to define a project and find the most suitable partner, possibly linking the project to existing contacts and cooperation within the IDEA League. The contact with an academic at the chosen IDEA League partner university must be made via the student s supervisor. To apply for the selection, candidates are requested to fill in the application form enclosed in this call, and submit it by by 15 December 2017 to the address phd-events@polimi.it In the application, you will be asked to include the name and address of your Supervisor. The application must be submitted with: - Curriculum vitae and publications list (if any); - Short research proposal (5000 character max); - Letter of recommendation from tutor or supervisor at Politecnico di Milano; - Motivation letter; - Agreement /letter from academic at the IDEA League hosting institution. The Commission for the evaluation of the applications is nominated by the Undergraduate and Graduate student services Manager by decree. The Commission will draw up a ranking, giving the research grant for as long as the budget allows. The Commission also reserves the right not to allocate all of the available funds. The scholarship will be paid: 80% of the amount upon verification of the candidate's departure; the balance on the return of the candidate. The contribution is subject to the current tax law of scholarships. Successful candidates will be informed within 2 weeks after the application deadline. Candidates will remain registered as regular PhD candidates at Politecnico di Milano, where they also pay their tuition fees. Upon return to Politecnico di Milano the student has to hand in a brief report (1 page A4) on their project to the PhD School (by sending an to the address phd-events@polimi.it) within 14 days, including a photograph of themselves in the host lab. The PhD School sends copies of the report to representatives involved, and the report will be published on the website. Students participating in the grant scheme may be listed on the IDEA web following the visit and in the Politecnico di Milano media for promotional activities. In case the student fails to meet the conditions above, or in case the research period abroad is cancelled for unforeseen reasons, or the period of stay ended earlier than originally intended, students are obliged to return the corresponding part of the grant. Art. 4 Personal data In accordance with Legislative Decree No. 196/2003, the Undergraduate and Graduate Students Services, that controls the personal data provided, guarantees that they will be used exclusively for purposes related to this procedure.
