1 Definition of Purpose OUR LADY OF PEACE 2019 SCHOLARSHIP Scholarships Awarded by the Altar & Rosary Society & Holy Name Society The Altar & Rosary Society and the Holy Name Society shall award scholarships to a worthy female and male graduating high school senior. Each senior must have made their Confirmation, be a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, and be planning to continue their education at an accredited college, university or trade school in the fall. Value of Scholarship The Altar & Rosary Society and the Holy Name Society shall award a scholarship valued at $500 each to a female and male high school senior. Application for Scholarship Any graduating senior may apply for this scholarship. To receive consideration, all applications must be completed and returned to the rectory, marked Attention: OLP Scholarship Committee no later than Friday, March 29, Criteria for Scholarship Award Scholarships will be awarded to a female and male senior who: 1. Have made their Confirmation. 2. Are active member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. 3. Will be continuing their education this fall at an accredited college, university or trade school. 4. Demonstrated service to the community and parish. 5. Completed and returned all documentation to include: a. Application signed by the senior and a parent or guardian. b. A short essay on the topic What guidance has your Catholic faith given you to overcome the challenges you have faced or might face in your life? The typed essay must be at least 250 words and no longer than 500 words. c. Completed Parish Activity and Community Services Involvement Forms. d. Two character references, one from your high school and one from the OLP parish community or organization in which you volunteer. No family member, guardian or Scholarship Committee member can be used as a reference. Selection Process All applications will be reviewed, selected and voted upon by the members of Our Lady of Peace Parish Scholarship Committee. Follow-up interviews by the Scholarship Committee may be requested. Scholarships will be awarded on June 16, 2019 to a female and male high school senior at the 10:00 am mass. Page 1
