She is shown here with President Joel Gray. The Theater was established in 1953 and is chartered by NY state as a not for profit educational institution dedicated to providing quality theater education and entertainment. Before it became Rome Community Theater, it consisted of two groups. They were: Rome Theater Guild and Rome Civic Theater The two groups had a variety of problems and by combining into one organization gained both a good volunteer base and financial stability.

4 The theater is located at 1500 N. James St. Phone: Website: The theater provides workshops, programs, shows, and presentations, and play writing contests. It is in its 60 th season now. In the summer, a Children s Theater is presented which is entitled. Fostering Children s Arts. Awards are also given to students who participate in theater within their respective schools. The summer program instructs children in costumes, props, set construction, acting, and writing of plays. This is being held on Wednesdays and Sundays and is detailed under community events in this newsletter. Within each year, the following productions are performed: One musical Three straight shows One extra show A great deal of effort was made to present a compendium of productions concerning the Jewish Holocaust. Arnie Galin and his wife arranged exhibits, speakers, and more culminating in the play Kindertransport at the Rome Community Theater. Some of the areas include costumes, stage moving, set building and design, and ushers. People are encouraged to volunteer in an area of interest. A Rotary Minute The following Rotary History bites are from the book presented to Rotarians attending the 2013 Rotary Institute for Learning. Title of the book is, A century of service by David C. Forward. This will be ongoing. Share System The SHARE system was devised in the early 1990 s to give a part of the funds raised to the Foundation s World Fund. The balance is credited to the District Designated Fund.

5 Districts that contribute to the Rotary Foundation have discretion over how some of those funds are spent. So, the districts that give large amounts to the Foundation are allotted more Ambassadorial Scholarships than those that five less. Through District Designated Fund allocations, the district receives credits for a percentage of its donations to the Foundation. 8 Encourage full attendance, as this visit is intended to set the tone and focus for the year. Encourage members to bring a guest or guests since it is an opportunity to share Rotary beyond the club with them. Schedule some meet and greet prior to the meeting. Your area assistant governor will introduce the Governor. This is an excellent opportunity to have the District Governor present Paul Harris Fellow Awards. Be prepared to exchange theme banners with the District Governor. From July 2014 Rotarian (excerpts) Meet the new President (Gary Huang /wife Corinna Yao) Gary Huang states that he finds many traditional Chinese values reflected in Rotary, these including service and responsibility as well as respect for family and others. He feels Confucius was the world s first Rotarian in spirit because his ideas are very much Rotary ideas. He said, It is better to light a single candle than to sit and curse the darkness. The Rotary way is to light a candle. Together we can light up the world. I hope that many of you will host a Rotary Day to show your community what Rotary is and what we do. I hope that you will involve your Rotaract and Interact clubs in your service to bring the new generation of the Rotary family closer to Rotary membership. He feels that finishing the eradication of polio is the most important thing to do. From Ward s Desk: Editor s notes (Ward Vuillemot) It s been a hoot. I have had the privilege of editing the CREDO for the past four years, and it s been a fun and rewarding challenge. However it is time to pass on the scribe to another Rotary volunteer. June is my last issue and Dana Jarrard, of the Utica Club, will be the CREDO editor commencing with the next (July) issue. Soooo, please send future CREDO inputs directly to Dana at djerrard@vicks.biz 2014 Ryla Conference July 11-13, 2014 The seminar, normally to be held in July at Cazenovia College, includes skilled presenters to offer keys to refining skills in and knowledge of leadership, decisionmaking, time management, ethics, goal-setting, responsibility, self-assurance, communication skills, service and teamwork. Rotary clubs throughout the district selects the teens. The clubs choose the teens based on leadership potential and a willingness to serve others. Teens fill out the RYLA applications, which are reviewed by the Rotary club. Once the club approves a teen for RYLA, the club endorses the application and pays the tuition for the teen to attend the RYLA seminar. The application is available at this site. For more information on RYLA, contact Larry Richardson at fishlure@verizon.net From the June 2014 Rotarian Magazine Connect with Rotarians away from home Download the free rotary Club Locator app for ios, Android, and Blackberry which allows smartphone users to search for clubs by location or keyword. Times and locations change; clubs break for holidays or special events. No one wants to waste vacation time searching for a meeting. Extend your Rotary travel network beyond make-up meetings by participating in a Rotary Friendship Exchange which helps individuals and families find home stays with Rotarians abroad. Visitor exchanges typically last three days to a week, and team visits can last up to a month. A Friendship Exchange is a great way to learn about another culture, immerse yourself in a new environment and develop connections for future service trips. It s also a guaranteed ticket to the memorable travel experience that comes with exploring a new place with local friends.
