1 Karen Moeller Scholarship Purpose Karen Moeller was a teacher for over 30 years; 18 of those years were in the Lakota District. She taught at Adena Elementary and Shawnee Elementary. Karen was not only an outstanding teacher, but a great person who everyone loved and admired. She won the David Thiel Award which recognizes kind, caring, and giving community members in Lakota. The Karen Moeller Scholarship will be awarded annually to seniors from Lakota West and/or East High Schools. The scholarship will be based on the applicants academics and contributions to Lakota and his/her community. The applicant should be dedicated to learning and service. Eligibility In order to qualify for the Karen Moeller Scholarship, the applicant must be a senior at either Lakota West High School or Lakota East High School who is graduating with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and going to college in the fall. How to Apply 1. Write an essay on one of the given topics. 2. Provide two (2) recommendations. 3. Complete the application form. Timeline 1. Applications must be received prior to March 2, Completed application and materials (essays, transcripts, recommendations) should be scanned into a single Adobe PDF file and ed to Karen@wclfoundation.com. All application materials (essays, transcripts, recommendations) must be submitted together, with this application form. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. All applications must be received prior to March 2, At this time, the Foundation is unable to accept applications via fax. Award There will be two (2) $1,500 scholarships awarded. Up to five (5) additional $500 scholarships MAY be awarded at the discretion of the Karen Moeller Scholarship Fund Committee. Selection A committee consisting of three (3) family members, a Lakota teacher, a Lakota counselor, and a Lakota administrator will determine the recipient(s) of the awards. The scholarships will be awarded at the May Senior Awards Assembly. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college/university of the recipient s choice.
