Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS) LBAS was established in 25-26 May, 1990.

LBAS represents 20 independent sector trade union from all sectors in all over Latvia, for example: education,

LBAS represents 20 independent sector trade union from all sectors in all over Latvia, for example: education, social care, culture, construction, transport, forestry and other. Since November 22, 2002, the President is Mr. Peteris Krigers. Vice presidents: Ms. Livija Marcinkevica and Mr. Egils Baldzens. 2

3 Education of members and society: 3 Discussions, conferences etc. Trainings (1-2days), informative campaigns, meetings with members, information materials and consultations, competitions for VET pupils with support of ESF funding and support of other projects Active use of social media (homepage, twitter, facebook) Training and organizing of young TU - LBAS Youth activities Participation in trainings organized by ETUC, ETUI, other countries Provisions thought other instruments for education (taxation policy, labour legislation, public finances)

Competitions for vocational and secondary school pupils 6 years LBAS in all Latvia organizes competition Profs for vocational school students to increase

motivation to study Labour Law, to find information about trade unions.

7 Competitions for vocational and secondary school pupils 6 years LBAS in all Latvia organizes competition Profs for vocational school students to increase knowledge of labour rights and work safety Average 1000 pupils every year take part in competition from more than 30 vocational schools Additional motivation to study Labour Law, to find information about trade unions. 7 Competition Smarts for secondary school pupils about labour rights, work safety, give information about labour markethow to write CV, what to say in job interview. More than 250 last grade pupils participated. Special handbook made for coming employee.

9 9 From 06-09/11/2014 LBAS organized competition Know not guess for secondary school pupils (11 and 12 grade) with aim to increase knowledge of labour rights, work safety and also role of trade unions at workplace. 33 teams from Riga schools participated into the competition. Next competition from 05-09/10/2015.

12 ESF project Development of a sector qualifications system and improvement of the efficiency and quality of vocational education and training for period Main targets/results: 12 Established 12 sector expert councils ( trade unions, employers, government) as advisory tool for improvement of VET Created national sector qualification structure (useful for career planning) New or to updated occupational standards, Introduced module approach in initial VET, improved content of qualification exams; Approbated recognition of informal education.

15 "VET for Employment (Erasmus +project ) LBAS is a partner for LDDK in Erasmus + strategic partnership project "VET for Employment". Project duration: 1 September August The aim of the project is to create and to develop systemic tools for traineeships effectively involving employers and thus facilitating VET compliance with the labour market needs and ensuring qualitative traineeships process. Main project activities are: 1) Study on training in the workplace and practise system in Latvia 2) study visits to Austria and Germany 3) a study on the reform of vocational education in Lithuania, exchange of experience in Lithuania 4) development and implementation of methodological guidelines for organizing qualitative traineeships in pilot projects (role of LBAS)

16 Project National Authorities for Apprenticeships: Implementing Work Based Learning in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia LBAS is a partner for LDDK in ERASMUS+ programme KA3 project National Authorities for Apprenticeships: Implementing Work Based Learning in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia Project duration is Project aims are: 1) to support development of Work based learning and apprenticeships in the Baltic States 2) to enhance cooperation between Baltic States in implementing VET reforms. 16

17 Partnerships for lifelong learning in engineering and technology (Erasmus +project ) LBAS is a partner for Bremen University in ERASMUS+ programme project Partnerships for lifelong learning in engineering and technology 17 Project duration: 1 October o September 2017 The project relates to two different models of cooperation between actors in vocational and higher education consistent and permeable educational pathways from initial training up to higher educational levels.

18 Governance and financing of apprenticeship 18 LBAS is a partner for Bremen University in the Cedefop research project Governance and financing of apprenticeship Project duration: Which main purpose is to study VET governance structures and financing arrangements in five countries Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Spain and Sweden in the view of establishing or expanding apprenticeship and dual vocational education and in identifying of how governance structures and financing arrangements could be further developed to support apprenticeship in a given countries.

19 Main conclusions Main aim for TU is to educate members and future members Projects can be used as good instrument to provide resources for additional activities for TU in education and employment 19 Projects can be used as a tool for positive recognition of TU
