1 2015 SENIOR AWARDS CLASS OF 2015 GRIFFIN OF THE YEAR - ARCHBISHOP JOHN MAY SERVICE AWARD. This award is sponsored by the Archdiocese of St. Louis and is presented to the student chosen by the school for extraordinary achievement in service. This award is presented in a separate city-wide awards ceremony. Joshua Estes is Vianney s Archbishop John L. May Award winner for DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR,. MODEL OF JUSTICE AWARD The Archdiocesan Commission on Human Rights honors students who perform an outstanding amount of community service with an award named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in January each year around the time of Dr. King s birthday. Brady Dickison was Vianney s recipient of the 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Model of Justice Award. PERFECT ATTENDANCE The next award literally took four years to earn. It is the type of recognition which we as a school take special delight in giving. It is not given every year. According to the school records the following student has not missed a single day or been tardy to school in 4 years. Gregory Prante received this plaque for his accomplishment. CHRIS FIALA MEMORIAL AWARD - Jeffrey Boelter POST-DISPATCH SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD This award was established in 1967 by St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sports Editor Bob Broeg. It was Broeg s idea to honor high school seniors whose excellence on the playing field and in the classroom set them apart from the rest. This year over 150 high schools in the Metro St. Louis area selected a scholar-athlete from their senior class. These athletes are recognized in the Post-Dispatch and in a pre-game ceremony at a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium. To earn consideration for this award, student athletes must participate in one or more varsity sports and be a high academic achiever in the senior class. This year s awardee is. BRO. JOSEPH LANFER AWARD This award is given annually to the Athlete of the Year in the senior class. Brother Lanfer was one of the original Marianists at St. John Vianney High School and he was actively involved in the school s athletic program. He served as a coach and Athletic Director and set the foundation for our current athletic program. When Brother Lanfer passed away, Athletic Director Don Heeb and the coaching staff chose to honor him by naming the school s athlete of the year after him. The criteria established for this award are that the senior student must participate in two or more varsity sports and rank in the upper 50% of his class. This year s recipient is Kyle Markway.
2 US ARMY SCHOLAR ATHLETE The United States Army Reserve Scholar-Athlete award is presented annually to a graduating senior who has consistently demonstrated the very highest of academic achievement in his course work and has exhibited exceptional athletic talent and contribution to his team.
