2 Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Programme funded by European Commission and managed by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency Goals: to enhance quality and institutional capacity of higher education to promote connectivity and understanding between people to promote internationalisation and Bologna process in third countries How: academic mobility between EU and areas outside of EU Mobility grants for exchange students, master degree students, doctorate students, researchers, teachers and academic staff Consortia of ~10 EU and ~10 non-eu Universities Erasmus Mundus active Programme is ending Mobility with EU and non-eu countries continues in Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility

9 Erasmus Mundus in practice Grantees received subsistence allowance, flights and insurance Subsistence allowance large enough to cover living in EU Erasmus Mundus Team in Turku Coordinated the project: organised calls for applications, processed the applications, made proposals for grant decisions, reported the projects, coordinating project budgets Managed the mobilities: made grant payments, booked flights and insurances, guided the partners and the grantees in any questions, hosting grantees coming to Turku

10 Impact on University of Turku Incoming grantees to Turku: exchange students, 24 Master students, 44 doctorate students, 45 post-doc/staff grantees Outgoing grantees from Turku: exchange students, 5 staff and 1 doctorate Wide networks from all Erasmus Mundus projects University of Turku known around the world Network helps when applying to new projects (Erasmus+ ICM) Excellency in project administration and mobility issues Impact on academic cooperation researchers, teachers and future academics had seed-funding to start or carry on their joint efforts

11 Impact on Partner Universities Establishment of new units Many partners established new units for international cooperation Activities in curriculum development, new teaching/training programmes Numerous bilateral and multilateral agreements signed between Partner Universities Erasmus + ICM, Erasmus+ projects, Russia Pilot Initiative with UTU, HSE, UdSU, KFU, MarSU, MRSU + ÅA (FI) Joint degrees: e.g. RSUH and UNIBO
