1 BHK FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The BHK Foundation will award $500 scholarships to students graduating from local high schools who participated in BHK Child Development Board programs as a child. The scholarship will be known as the BHK Foundation Scholarship. Eligibility: Format: Selection: Applicant must be a currently enrolled senior who will graduate in the spring of 2018 from any high school serving Baraga, Houghton or Keweenaw counties. Applicant must have attended early childhood or school-age programs operated by BHK Child Development Board. Applicant must be pursuing further education at any facility of higher education, advanced learning or training, including vocational or technical schools, colleges and universities. The BHK Foundation may ask awardees to speak at events and may use application information for public relations purposes. Applicant must apply in writing using the BHK Foundation Scholarship Application Form, available through the school counselor s office. (Note: Do not send resumes, cover letters, etc., as these materials will not be reviewed.) Scholarship awards will be based on the student s character, financial need, participation in school/community activities, scholastic ability and other factors. Awards will be made without regard to age, race, sex, religion or ethnic group. The BHK Foundation Scholarship Committee shall have a primary role in the selection of candidates (compilation of applicants, review of class rank and profile, etc.). Additional recipients may be selected as alternates in the event the awarded individual fails to fulfill the obligations of the scholarship. Distribution: The funds will be forwarded to the principal s office of the graduating senior, which will award the funds to the selected individual after his or her proof of registration is received in principal s office. If the scholarship is not claimed by the selected recipient or alternate recipient by November 1, the scholarship will not be awarded for that year. Renewal: Deadline: Scholarships may be renewed for additional year(s) based on satisfactory academic progress, availability of funds and other factors at the Foundation Scholarship Committee s discretion.
