This has been generated just for you as a member of our club. Editor: Quentin Li If you have any comments or questions, the editor. Future Speakers Jun Rosanne Ng "Experience in Taiwan" Jul ~2008 Installation Night Jul Richard(Jung-Chung) Hsu "TBA" Upcoming Events ROTARY - Presidential Membership Conference Aug Aug Rotary Membership by P.K. Chan Rotary District Membership Chair-Elect Hans Doge calls on all Rotarians to acknowledge recruiting new members as a priority for the new Rotary Year. Rotarian Hans Doge made a heartfelt appeal to all Rotarians to bring in new blood for the clubs. Only 8 out of 53 clubs in the District have shown growth in membership in the current year. New members and new ideas are needed to reverse this declining trend, which is very much attributed to a generally aging membership among the clubs. Every member has the responsibility to bring in new members. Consistency - "one bite at a time" is what is needed for the clubs to continue to grow. President Mike Yuh-hung Ma will be the first Chinese club president since Beijing Club started organizing on Quentin had the honor to learn several Rotary Clubs' future projects and goal in Taiwan and China. This is the most precious experience for him. Quentin would like to thank all the clubs he had visited and wish them have a successful Rotary Year. Rtn.Guillermo Terisotto,Thank you. From Central to North Rtn. Quentin had attended two more Rotary Club meetings before he left Taiwan to China this week. On Jun Rtn. Quentin joined the regular meeting at Rotary Club of Tsaotun Central, which is in District His uncle was 2000 ~ 2002 club president. It's a wonderful experience to visit the club that he has known most of the members since he was a kid. Tsaotun is Quentin's hometown. Next day, Jun , Rtn. Sport from Rotary Club of Taoyuan Bailing at District 3500 invited Quentin to attend his club meeting. It's very special that their venue is on the 23 rd floor of a hospital. Quentin did learn a lot from their future projects report and earn lots of friendships there. After meeting, CP Peace; President Grinder and lots of Rotarians from RC of Taoyuan Bailing took Quentin for a very delicious seafood night meal. Wow, what a delightful evening. CP Peace;President Grinder;Quentin and Rtn. President Grinder and Quentin Sport Rtn. Quentin had attended four Rotary clubs' meetings during the two-weeks stay at Taiwan. Rotarians in Taiwan always gave Quentin the warmest welcome. Quentin would like to thank all the friends in those clubs for their touch-heart greetings. THANK YOU! Gift from Rotary Club of Taoyuan West District 3500 GSE team leader Jason Teng, past president of Rotary Club of Taoyuan West, invited Rtn. Quentin to attend his club's meeting on Jun When Quentin arrived the venue, he received a very warm welcome from Rotarians of RC of Taoyuan West.Quentin also met lots of Rotarain Anns (Spouses of Rotarians) during this visit.spouses of Rotarians usually attend the regular meeting of Taoyuan West if there is a speech. RC of Taoyuan West President Nick presented a special gift for all members of Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial. We are not only looking for a joint project but also closed relationship between each club.
Page 5 of 8 Jun. 6 is also President Nick's birthday. Happy Birthday to Nick! A Year in Review and a New Year by P.K. Chan The last club assembly for the Rotary Year 2006~2007 held on Jun 5th was attended by Assistant Governor-Elect John Vokes. Assistant Governor-Elect John Vokes threw in a lot of useful advices as President-Elect Kenneth Liu reviewed his objectives and plans for the new Rotary Year 2007~2008. Issues relating to attendance, new members, speakers, member contributions, and public relations have invited very interesting discussions. Thanks to exiting President Wells Hsu's leadership, a healthy reserve fund has been left to the Club for the New Rotary Year. However, members are reminded of the following payments due July 1, 2007: - $200 Membership Fee - $100 Installation Night Dinner for Two Please make payment to Treasurer-Elect PK Chan and if you are writing a cheque, address the payee to Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial. Rotary Club of Taoyuan D3500 Rtn. Quentin Li arrived Taiwan on 5/29 for a family trip.he atteneded the regular meeting at Rotary Club of Taoyuan South on 5/31. Rtn. Quentin's hometown is Nantou, which is in the middle part of Taiwan, belongs to Rotary International District When Quentin arrived Taoyuan by train, Jason Teng (PP of RC Taoyuan West) -D3500 GSE team leader picked him up and drove him to the venue of RC Taoyuan South. Jason also attended the meeting with Quentin. Rotary Club of Taoyuan South is the club in Taiwan to help our club's international service project - Delivering Knowledge to the Unreachable Land. Our club president Wells used to be this club's member. Since Jason and Quentin arrived the
Page 6 of 8 venue, they had received warmest welcome from all the members of Taoyuan South. In the meeting, the chairs of next year committees reported their project and plan. Every director reported the future plans with happiness and responsibility. Quentin learned and enjoyed it a lot. President Cookies of Taoyuan South presented a citation to recognize Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial for doing this International Service project to Taiwan. Fund Raising for BC Children Hospital by P.K. Chan Raymond Li and Cecilia Liu from the Charity Fund of the Children Hospital called on Rotarians to open their wallets for good causes. Before Raymond Li made his presentation on May 29, 2007 about the history of the Children Hospital Charity Fund, it was probably unbeknown to most of us that our hospital health system has no budget for researches and developments. Researchers have been funded by donations, results of the effort of many donors and volunteers working for the good causes. Raymond Li and Cecilia Liu President Wels and Raymond The Hospital's objective is to bring more smiles to children. Cecilia Liu gave a first hand experience on how the Hospital helped her stay together with her loving daughter, Cameron, for eighteen months. The time might be too short for most people, but for Cameron, who suffered from the "Bubble Boy" desease, and Cecilia, they are very thankful for the effort of the staff of the Children Hospital. Average life of a "Bubble Boy" is a year.
Page 7 of 8 Visitiing Rotarian from District 3500 Visiting Rotarian Lobster Dinner Fundraising Event May 26, several members and family from Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial took District 3500 GSE team leader Jason, member Celesta and Rtn. Sport to join the Down Home Lobster Night at Rotary Club of North Delta. This is the second year for RC North Delta to have lobster dinner with both silent and live auctions to help support the North Delta Rotary Charities.
Page 8 of 8 It's a very successful fundraising event with lots of great food and fun. District 3500 GSE team leader Jason paid $10 to Kiss the Cod and showed his support for this event. Quentin's Commitments
