We ve been busy in the Guidance department to help with preparing you for your school year. The fall is a busy time as we help juniors and seniors with the college exploration process and seniors with applications. While the fall is busy, it is also a time of excitement as we watch our seniors make decisions for their futures! In this issue you will not only find helpful information for seniors, but also some career exploration and test prep opportunities for underclassmen. It is never too early to start thinking about your future aspirations. Individual Meetings Seniors have their senior meetings with their counselor completed or scheduled. Juniors will begin their individual meetings in the second quarter. pg. 3

2 Prepare and Explore Project Excel College of Mount St. Joseph offers a successful intervention program for students with specified learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD. Project Excel is designed for students who are seeking guidance related to college admission, as well as disability services and accommodations. Appropriate for all grade levels. All meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 6:30pm, at the Hamilton County Sheriff s Patrol Headquarters, Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH National Underground Railroad Freedom Center The Links, Inc. Cincinnati Chapter & the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center have established a Youth Docent Program. This program is designed to develop leadership and critical thinking skills while expanding historical knowledge. Students who are selected will participate in a 13- month training experience culminating in a paid internship. Open to students who are currently in 9th- 11th grades. Kennedy Library foundation invites U.S. high school students to write an essay on an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after For contest information, registration, and to submit your essay, visit the Profile in Courage Essay Contest at First- place winner receives $1,000 and an expense- paid trip to Boston to receive recognition by Caroline Kennedy at the John F. Requirements: senior in high school who plans to pursue and complete a bachelor s degree and is a United States citizen. Awards range from $5,000- $20,000. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship Five scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to recognize graduating, college- bound high school seniors who embody the spirit of volunteerism.
