1 Alumni Scholarship Recipients The 2009 Arvin Alumni Scholarship committee reviewed applications and selected twenty-one (21) students: Listed are the students and the school(s) they will be attending: Walter Aquino UC Santa Barbara, Paloma Contreras UC San Diego, Laura DeLaRiva UC Santa Barbara, Steven Dominguez CSU Bakersfield, Paulina Gamez CSU Bakersfield, Laura Guapo UC Davis, Eleazar Gutierrez CSU Bakersfield, Maricela Gutierrez UC Davis, Liza Hernandez Bakersfield College and USC, Ana G Martinez UC San Diego, Yesenia Martinez Cal Poly SLO, Alexander Mendoza UC Santa Barbara, Nanse Mendoza CSU Bakersfield and UC San Francisco, Edward Parra - San Francisco State, Luz Perez Bakersfield College, Ricardo Perez CSU Bakersfield, Elvia Rios Cal Poly SLO, Antonio Ruezga CSU Bakersfield, Omar Tinoco - UC Davis, Phillip Viramontes UC Santa Barbara and Harvard, and Evelyn Zuniga - MIT. The Alumni Scholarship recipients will each receive a one year membership. To date 130 scholarships have been given for a total of $46,750. The proceeds from the Alumni Golf Tournament allowed us to award twenty-one (21) four hundred ($400) dollar scholarships and one (1) six hundred ($600) Bob Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Those serving on the Scholarship Committee were: Amanda Little ( 92), Linda Gonzaga ( 68), Linda Leary ( 67), Cheryl Rodriguez ( 63) and Larry Hallum ( 61). 4 AHS HOSA Students Take top places awarded in nutrition test at state competition Sixteen students from Arvin High HOSA traveled to Sacramento to compete at the state level in the Health Occupation Students of America. Eleven students made it to the second rounds in four areas and five students placed in the top ten. AHS Senior Maria Moreno and Juniors Karla Calderon and Maribel Patino were the top three placers in the Nutrition knowledge test at the state competition for HOSA and qualified for the national competition in Nashville Tennessee. Advisor is Kip Glazer CONGRATULATIONS!!! 2009 Alumni Golf Tournament October 24, 2009 Alumni golf information will be going out in July. Homecoming will be October 23, 2009 Save the dates of October th 2009 for a 60 th Arvin High Celebration Class of 1964 is having a Reunion October 23 rd 24 th They will be having a tailgate party on October 23 rd. For more information contact Pat (Kennedy) Combs at The Arvin High Alumni band played at the 65 th commemorative celebration of D-Day at the Holiday Inn in Bakersfield Former Football Coach Chamberlain in the News Coach Chuck Chamberlain was honored by the Boys & Girls Clubs with a dinner. He was a game honoree at the US Army Arena Bowl East-West All-Star Game.
