Payment will be applied directly toward tuition and fees for the upcoming semester(s). Robert A. and Shirley S. Barnhardt This scholarship was established in honor of Shirley S. Barnhardt, who taught math to students ranging from elementary school through community college for many years, and in honor of Robert A. Barnhardt, who received his M.Ed. and Ed.D. from Curry, worked in the field of education as a teacher, administrator, and dean, and served on the Curry School Foundation Board. Joan Larie Bell This scholarship was established in memory of Joan Larie Bell by her family. Eli M. Bower Fellowship This fellowship was established in memory of Eli M. Bower. in Curriculum, Instruction Pursuing a degree that will enable the recipient to teach math to elementary, middle, or high school students. Preference will be given to students who intend to teach in elementary or middle schools. Intends to pursue the educational field as a classroom teacher. Exhibits qualities of leadership, excellence and enthusiasm for the educational process. Encourages the development of these same qualities in other students. Involved in the education of students with emotional and behavioral disorders. Martha Nelson Bradley Fellowship This fellowship was established by Anne B. and William B. Guerrant in honor of Martha Nelson Bradley, a Curry School alumna of 1939, and her career as a teacher and principal. Studying to become a K-12 teacher. First preference given to Virginia residents. Robert P. and Anne W. Buford This scholarship was established by Robert P. and Anne W. Buford of Richmond. The Bufords are long-time supporters of the University and of the Curry School of Education. in Enrolled in the five-year Teacher 1
2 Jean R. Butcher Fellowship This fellowship was established by Jean R. Butcher of Richmond, Virginia. Graduate Reading Studying in the field of reading. Robert M. and Annetta J. Coffelt and Robert M. Coffelt, Jr. This scholarship was created by Robert M. Coffelt, Jr. in memory of Robert M. and in honor of Annetta J. Coffelt of Fairfax, Virginia to support students who will become ethical, constructive citizens of this country and world, and who will make a thoughtful and positive impact on society. James M. Cooper and V. Shamim Sisson This scholarship was established by James M. Cooper and V. Shamim Sisson. Barbara Labrecque Corbin Fund This scholarship was established by Shelia C. Labrecque and the late Thomas G. Labrecque to honor their daughter who received her M. Folan by her parents, Ragan P. Folan and McDara P. Folan III. George C. Graham This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of George C. Graham, a respected editor at Houghton Mifflin. Masters Graduate Reading Preference to student with demonstrated financial need. Enrolled in the McGuffey Reading Program. Academic merit. Gladys M. Graham This scholarship was established by Mrs. Gladys Graham, an alumna and long-time supporter of the Curry School. In top quarter of the class. Mary Alice Gunter & Edgar J. Gunter, Jr. Dr. Mary Alice Gunter was an associate professor emeritus in the Curry School and former Executive Director of the Foundation. Dr. Edgar J. Gunter is a professor emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This scholarship was endowed by family and friends to honor their years of dedication to teaching and to the University. Demonstrate expertise and creativity in using technology in their program. Express a commitment to teaching in Virginia's public schools. Exhibit inventiveness in implementing curriculum, in engaging students in active learning activities, and in teaching students innovative ways of using technology themselves. 2
3 Linwood and Virginia Holton This scholarship was established as a part of the Curry School s Governors initiative, a program initiated in 1997 to honor former governors in the Commonwealth for their leadership and contribution to education in Virginia. Linwood Holton served as Virginia s Governor from Enrolled in the Five-year Teacher Inge Family The Inge was established by Clifton Inge of Mobile, Alabama to support an out-of-state student in the five-year Teacher Non-Virginian. Demonstrated need. Thomas Jefferson Governor s The Thomas Jefferson Governor s was established in 1997 by Alice B. Williams to honor Virginia s past governors who saw the importance of education for the well-being of the Commonwealth and to provide financial assistance to Curry students entering their fifth year in the five-year teacher education program. Little Keswick Foundation for Special Education This scholarship was established in 2010 by the Board of the Little Keswick Foundation Graduate Masters Entering fifth year of the Five-year Program Completed at least one year in the Special Education Masters Program Academic excellence William C. Lowry This scholarship was established by friends of William C. Lowry upon his retirement. Samuel Marx This scholarship was established by Ellie Marcus Marx in memory of her husband, Samuel Marx, and also as an expression of appreciation for being the first recipient of a Master of Arts degree granted during a summer session at the University. Dr. Susan Bjork O'Brien Memorial This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Dr. O Brien. Early Childhood Education Enrolled in the Early Childhood 3

Viola Reavis Robinson This scholarship was established by Joseph F. Moore in honor of his former teacher Viola Reavis Robinson. Estelle B. Seward This scholarship was established by Estelle Seward. Sandra Feagan Stern Fellowship This fellowship was established by Kyle Blackmon in honor of his mother, Sandra Feagan Stern. This fellowship will reduce 5th year tuition through UVa Financial Services. Masters Female African-American Academic excellence Native of the state of Virginia Studying in the field of mathematics. Scholastic merit Preference given to females. Preference given to a student from groups underrepresented in the kindergarten through 12th grade teaching profession. Priority will be given to (1st) a male student and (2nd) an African-American student, but the scholarship is not exclusive to students from these groups. Hunter Page Taylor Memorial This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Hunter Taylor in his memory. Hunter was a rising fifth-year student in the Program at the time of his death in 1992 In the top quarter of the class. Preference given to students preparing to teach a foreign language. Busse Award This award was established in memory of Dr. Bernard Busse, Professor Emeritus of the Curry School. Ullin W. Leavell Award The Leavell Award was initiated in the mid- 1960s by Mrs. Ullin W. Leavell in memory of her husband, long-time director of the McGuffey Reading Center. Richard A. Meade Award This award was established in memory of Dr. Richard Meade. Graduate Reading Graduate English Education Outstanding student. Concentration in elementary education. Studying reading. Pursuing or completing study in the field of English Education. 4

Marjorie Hare Andrews Fellowship This fellowship was established in honor of Marjorie Hare Andrews by her husband, Lester S. Andrews and her sons, Scott Andrews and Ross Andrews. Marjorie Hare Andrews pursued her graduate studies at the College of Arts and Sciences and the Curry School of Education while raising her two sons. She received her M.A.T. from the College in 1968 and her Ph.D. from Curry in student in dissertation phase Research Statistics and Evaluation, Special Ed., Educational Psych. or Clinical Psych. Curry Trustees Fellowship (Curry - General) The Curry Trustees Fellowship was established by Richard & Mary Abidin, Jane & William Craig, Thomas & Patricia Shortt, and the late Mary Virginia Willson as part of the Curry Trustees Program, to support students enrolled in the Curry School..
