QUESTIONS? arprowant@mercy.com ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM This inaugural symposium is a dynamic 2-day conference that will focus on the latest advances in the treatment and management of stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, maxillofacial fractures, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, foot and ankle trauma, hypothermia, and pediatric trauma. We will also discuss trauma forensics, mass casualties, and human trafficking, including the impact that each have on health care providers, as well as the recognition and treatment of spiritual distress among patients. The course curriculum is designed to foster discussion among clinicians involved in neurosciences and trauma care including physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, physical, speech, and occupational therapists, social work, case managers, emergency medical personnel, and other health care professionals. COURSE OBJECTIVES Identify, evaluate and treat common neurological disorders. Discuss new advances in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders. Describe the roles and responsibilities in the continuum of the health care disaster response process including basic triage, decision making, resource allocation, staffing, and patient documentation. Review the new ASA/AHA guidelines for stroke. Identify indicators of possible human trafficking among patients, including risk factors and other signs. Evaluate the assessment and stabilization of pediatric trauma patients in preparation for transport. Discuss essential elements necessary to delivering systematic trauma care.
