There are no barriers to care at Shriners Hospitals for Children because of an extraordinary legacy of philanthropic support. The only criteria for admission of any child are age and medical diagnosis. Care is funded through the combined support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Endowment and contributions from people who represent all walks of life and whose motivation is making a difference in the lives of children through expert care and research. Thanks to the thoughtful generosity of individual men and women, businesses and foundations, and a legacy of Shriner support, more than seventy-five percent of the hospital s annual budget is funded by private sources. Recruitment for Excellence in Philanthropy Shriners Hospitals for Children is presently recruiting an experienced fundraising professional in the greater San José area for the position of serving. For a seasoned development professional interested in purposeful fundraising, this is a dynamic and meaningful position. Position Summary As a member of the development team for Shriners Hospitals for Children, the will serve as the principal major gifts officer for the hospital in the greater region. The position obtains guidance from the Hospital Administrator and Chief Executive Officer through a direct reporting relationship to the hospital s Director of Development. The is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors within his or her designated region for purposes of soliciting major gifts. This position is also responsible for nurturing and stewarding donor relationships through regular contact, communication and recognition. For purposes of fundraising, this Gifts Officer will also develop and maintain relationships with the regional community and hospitalaffiliated Shriner groups. The position exercises professional and ethical judgment in the performance of duties. The successful candidate will be an accomplished fundraising professional with executive presence who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has

It is expected that S/he enjoys being a member of a dynamic team, is a selfdisciplined and independent professional, and possesses strong internal and external relationship building skills. The successful candidate must be informed and committed to the work of Shriners Hospitals for Children and the importance of Shriners Hospitals for Children to the health and well-being of children in the region. Position Details The will be responsible for fulfilling the objectives and goals identified by The Director of Development, Hospital Administrator, and Hospital Board of Governors as consistent with those articulated by Shriners Hospitals for Children s national board and the system s Chief Development Officer, including: Sustains and Contributes to a Comprehensive Donor Development Program Develops and implements long- and short-range operational plans that annually attain five figure and higher major gifts and major planned gift commitments. Identifies, cultivates and stewards prospective relationships through personal visits, written and oral communication for the purpose of meeting annual goals to support Shriners Hospitals for Children- (SHCNC). Successfully obtains grants for the hospital. Sustains Strong Relationships with Donors, Shriners, Board of Governors and Staff Communicates and visits with major donors and supporters on a regular basis. Actively manages donors and prospects to whom this position is assigned as primary relationship manager. Documents activity as appropriate in the system-wide donor relations CRM application. Ensures all donations are recorded in a timely manner. Sustains and Participates in a Strong Recognition Program for Donors that includes Shriners and Visitors as well as Acknowledges Major Donors Personally acknowledges all primary relationship donors.
4 Page 4 Utilizes hospital s donor recognition program for benefit of cultivation and solicitation planning. Ensures donor intent is fulfilled and that donor recognition is appropriate and timely. Member of the Hospital Development Team and follows hospital/departmental policies and procedures Attends all mandatory meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops. Communicates vital information to the Director of Development and shares relevant information during administrative and department meetings. Knows and understands hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Manages Appropriate Requirements of the Development Department Ensures timecards and expense reports are submitted in a timely manner. Completes annual job performance appraisal and staff compliance requirements. Provides feedback to Director of Development within timelines requested by the administration. Qualifications Qualities and experiences that ideal candidates should display include: An earned baccalaureate degree. Strong Development experience and leadership skills with a minimum five years of professional experience in fundraising and three years of experience in major giving and planned giving programs. Confident, professional, energetic, enthusiastic, selfmotivated and an absolutely ethical people person who is genuinely interested in others and an accomplished listener. Knowledgeable about a broad range of interests and possessing the ability to comfortably converse on many subjects. Capable of working well with a variety of personalities and leadership styles; is diplomatic, gracious and customerservice oriented to enhance successful working relationships with colleagues, donors, administrators and volunteers.
5 Page 5 Skilled in relationship management, prospect research and familiar with planned giving strategies and vehicles, including Charitable Gift Annuity programs. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to make compelling presentations at public gatherings. Effective time-management skills. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and adaptable to change. Highly developed ability to work independently within a strong teamwork philosophy as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals. Significant computer skills and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Detail oriented with respect to planning, file analysis and record keeping. Preferred Preference will be given to candidates that also display one or more of the following: Experience working as a fundraising professional in a health care environment. Experience working with computerized donor records system. Memorandum The salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience, qualifications, and verifiable salary history.
