1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Telemedicine: It s Role in Medical Monitoring & Diagnostics Telemedicine is a comprehensive medical monitoring and diagnostic system that integrates clinical healthcare data delivery, organization of medical information, and management services. In essence, it uses communications equipment to link healthcare practitioners with patients in different and distant locations. Healthcare providers use Telemedicine technology in order to: increase cost efficiency; reduce transportation expenses; improve patient access to specialists; improve quality of care; facilitate early discharge from hospitals. In short, Telemedicine simplifies the delivery of health care services and enhances communication between health care providers and their patients. Telemedicine: Added Value for Healthcare Providers Time is of the essence if health professionals are to effectively intervene in all types of emergency events. Telemedicine lets medical professionals virtually visit their patients. The Call Center allows them to continuously monitor patients, guarantee that specific types of tests are performed, immediately receive results and determine the most effective therapy. The benefits are numerous: In the case of heart attack, a rapid obtainment of a patient s ECG is essential for an emergency diagnosis. With time being the essence, Telemedicine s swift intervention can be the difference between life and death, as well as the prevention of minor or major heart injury. Effective monitoring of high-risk patients and patients who have suffered a stroke can be conducted with greater efficiency. Telemedicine s 24-hour service makes it possible to continuously monitor stroke patients and reduce the need to remain in hospital. Physicians can effectively follow-up a patient s situation during a recovery period, giving the patient a feeling of security and trust. Chronically ill heart disease patients can live in the comfort of their own home while at the same time benefit from the caring eye of their physician. On-going medical monitoring used as an auxiliary tool is an excellent means for supporting patients unable to reach a hospital/clinic, requiring home assistance and/or guidance regarding sports activities. The population of remote areas can now benefit from easy access, cost effective critical health care services by having the main hospital (Call Center) as their primary consultant Aerotel s Role in Telemedicine
2 Aerotel is a well-known name in the Telemedicine field. We establish Medical Call Centers with emergency/monitoring services for private and/or institutional clients (connected and not connected to National Health Services). These centers provide diagnostic services to physicians, hospitals, private citizens, rural clinics and the like. They are used for any type of need: from a simple patient follow-up requiring a medical test, to chronically ill and high-risk patients suffering from heart disease and cardiac symptoms, hypertension, respiratory problems, SpO2, etc. By integrating Aerotel systems into their health care system, health professionals and even private citizens (patients) benefit from various state-of-the-art monitors and the simplicity of telemedicine. Once readings are completed, vital signs (ECG/SpO2 etc.) data is transmitted to a Call Center for consultation with a specialist and immediate evaluation. In a crisis situation, the Call Center s medical team activates emergency procedures enabling the patient to receive immediate treatment. If needed, all of the data can be viewed on the Net by using Aerotel s HRS-Net software for Internet access to medical files from any location. As a result, regardless of their physical location, this type of service enables GPs and medical staff to offer patients immediate assistance for emergency treatment and evacuation, consultation, or a routine examination. In remote locations or in countries where there is a lack of health professionals (primarily specialists), this Call Center acts as a lifeline by providing support information to GPs around the country and giving them an immediate, on-line response to medical exams sent to the center. Aerotel s Technology How does it work? Aerotel offers a complete range of personal and professional Transtelephonic devices for a variety of remote diagnostic, emergency service and monitoring applications. The recorded signals are transmitted through the telephone to the medical center, where a PC-based receiving station receives the transmitted exam and displays it in real-time. Each service subscriber (e.g. clinic, private patient) is supplied with a compact, easy-to-use monitor (portable ECG/Spirometer/SpO2 transmitter, etc.) that is always at his/her reach. These state-of-the-art monitors enable subscribers to register test results (e.g. Electrocardiogram ECG, Spiro meter exam, etc.) in roughly 50 seconds and transmit it to the Call Centre via telephone from any part of the country and even abroad, via a simple telephone line. The exam and clinical information (always on-line) provides subscribers with a full situation picture and enables immediate action, as well as ensures a sense of calm. The entire process takes two-three minutes. Subscribers can continue using the monitor when needed.

Aerotel s Telemedicine Systems Heartline Aerotel s Heartline is designed for various diagnostic, emergency and monitoring service applications. It is composed of a complete range of personal, 1-12 lead Transtelephonic devices for variable remote diagnostic and emergency service applications. The recorded ECG signals are transmitted through the telephone to a medical center, where a PC-based ECG receiving station receives the transmitted ECG and displays it in real-time. Heartline Diagnostic Services Heartline s diagnostic services are mainly designed to assist physicians (GPs) and clinics in interpreting 12-lead ECG patient readings. It is also designed to assist cardiologists and GPs in detecting and characterizing the cardiac problem. Aerotel s Heartline diagnostic services include the following clinical applications: Immediate post-hospitalization monitoring of patients following myocardial infarction, coronary bypass surgery, or PTCA procedures. Remote consultation for general practitioners, dentists, minor surgery clinics, home nurses, rural clinics, etc.
4 Heartline Emergency Services Heartline s Cardiac emergency services are designed to provide heart condition patients, general practitioners, dentists, minor surgery clinics, home nurses, rural clinics, etc. with an immediate analysis and response of a specific case (ECG). Once a cardiac event is diagnosed, intervention is quick and aimed at reducing anxiety, minimizing irreversible heart damage, and possibly restoring life. Heartline s emergency service procedure is divided into two phases: 1. On-line telephone assistance performed by acquiring the patient s ECG in real-time and diagnosing patient status. 2. On-site assistance in cases where the situation requires immediate treatment and admission to a hospital. The benefits of introducing such a service to patients include: Improving survival chances following a MI. Reducing time from the onset of symptoms to receipt of adequate treatment. Reducing hospitalization time and costs. Reducing the number of ER admissions. Improving patient self-confidence and quality of life. MPM Aerotel s complementary Medical Parameters Monitoring (MPM) system and devices monitor vital signs that do not require an immediate response. These parameters allow health care organizations and physicians to successfully manage diagnostic services for remote clinics and follow-up care of the ill. With the MPM system, data is recorded and transferred through regular telephone lines to a monitoring service center (Internet or satellite phone transmission is optional). Using Aerotel s supporting MPM software, the monitoring service center automatically enters the data into computerized patient files. As a result, physicians are able to effectively track patient adherence to medication regimens, as well as blood pressure readings, weight and other medical parameters (such as blood glucose levels, oxygen saturation and pulmonary function tests).
5 The MPM System uses two main data communicators to transmit its data: 1. Tele-CliniQ Aerotel s Data Communicator Device for the transmission of up to 4 measured medical values, via regular telephone lines. Primarily designed for personal use. 2. Medi-CliniQ Aerotel s Multi-Patient Data Communication Center is designed for the transmission of up to 8 measured medical values that are registered over regular telephone lines. Multi-use version. Each Medi-CliniQ is comprised of: USB Junction Box for connecting up to 8 parameters PC Software Remote clinics may have the following devices linked to Aerotel s Medi CliniQ using RS 232 ports: Blood glucose and ketone monitoring sensor Blood pressure monitor Precision health scale SpO2 meter Peak flow meter Aerotel Heartview 12L ecg recorder/transmitter Aerotel Heartview P12/8 Plus ecg recorder transmitter The recorded medical data is automatically sent to the receiving call center and stored in the patient s medical record. MPM Method Tele-CliniQ: Tele-CliniQ is installed in the patient s home. It is used to monitor chronically ill patients, as well as early discharged hospital patients (sent home to release expensive beds). Tele-CliniQ is connected to the patient s regular telephone line
6 and to the specific monitors required by the patient s physician. The patient takes the required medical parameters measurements. The data is then automatically transmitted to the receiving call center, where it is stored in the patient s medical record. Medi-CliniQ: Medi-CliniQ centers are installed in remote clinics, pharmacies, Health Services primary care units, and more. The remote clinic (location), has a PC station linked to the Medi-CliniQ. In addition, monitoring devices are linked to the Medi-CliniQ. When the patient comes to the clinic, s/he uses a personal ID number for identification (option for Smart Card). Afterwards, the patient/nurse-technician takes the required medical parameters measurements. The data is then automatically transmitted to the receiving call center, where it is stored in the patient s medical record. This data is available for evaluation by a GP. *** List of MPM-compatible medical devices capable of transmitting data via Tele- CliniQ and Medi-CliniQ data transmitters: AND Medical, UA-767PC, Blood Pressure Monitor AND Medical, UC321, Precision Health Scale Nonin, PalmSat 2500, SpO2 Meter Lifescan (J&J), OneTouch Ultra, Blood Glucose Meter QID2 MediSense, Optium, Blood Glucose and β-ketone Monitoring Sensor Bayer, Ascensia Breeze, Blood Glucose Meter Bayer, Ascensia Elite XL, Blood Glucose Meter PIKO1 - Piko peak flow meter by PDS Aerotel Medical Systems Ltd.
