1 Rescue 7 Inc. - Instructor Profiles 2010 John Collie - John has nineteen years experience with the Toronto Fire Services and fourteen years on a Heavy Rescue vehicle. John is currently a certified BLS-AED Instructor Trainer with the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation and the American Heart Association (AHA). He is also an Instructor-Trainer in First Aid with Rescue 7 Inc., Health Canada and Human Resources Development Canada, as well as an Instructor with the National Safety Council. John has completed the Ontario Fire Marshall's Emergency Patient Care Instructor Level (First Responder) Program and is certified in Auto Extrication, High Angle Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Confined Space Entry. John was a shift-training Instructor with Toronto Fire Services for defibrillators before leaving to become President of Rescue 7 Inc., three years ago. Ray Chapman - Rescue 7 Inc. s Director of Training, Ray Chapman, was a Paramedic with Toronto EMS (Emergency Medical Services) for 26 years before joining Rescue 7 Inc. full-time in Ray performed many duties over the years including working on the emergency support units, public order unit and working in the educational department as a field-training officer. Ray is a certified BLS/AED Instructor-Trainer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. He is also an International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Instructor and a First Aid and First Responder Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc., as well as an Instructor with the National Safety Council. Rick Batelaan- Rick is a qualified BLS and AED Instructor with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and a qualified First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc for over 9 years. Rick, now an Acting Captain with the Toronto Fire Services, has over 23 years of service and brings his wealth of knowledge and experience to the field and the class room. Rick is trained as a Trainer Facilitator by the Toronto fire services. He also has experience in High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Auto Extrication and Hazardous Materials. Danielle Bratton Danielle took the Humber College firefighter pre-service program in 2005, as well as the Fanshawe College Paramedic program, graduated and became a certified medic in Danielle was hired by Toronto Fire Services in 2008 and currently works as a firefighter. Danielle holds current BLS CPR, AED and First Aid Instructor qualifications with Rescue 7 Inc.
2 Ron Bennett - Ron is a BLS and AED Instructor certified through the Heart & Stroke Foundation and has beena qualified First Aid Instructor for Rescue 7 Inc since Ron has a background in physical and health education and has been with Toronto Fire Services for 21 years. He currently works as an acting captain in a 3 truck fire hall in the Parkdale area of Toronto. Ron also keeps his Toronto Firefighter peers up to date in EMS by being a Shift Training Instructor and Patient Care Instructor. Michelle Buchan, JUS Michelle is a BLS and AED Instructor certified through the Heart & Stroke Foundation and is a qualified Instructor for Rescue 7 Inc First Aid courses since Michelle has been a police officer for 13 years and currently work for the Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County. Her policing career has given her the opportunity to be exposed to several medical emergencies. Michelle also has an honours degree in sociology from the University of Western Ontario. Jeanne Carey, CHRP (Operations Manager) - For over 7 years, Jeanne has been Rescue 7's Operations Manager. She is a graduate of York University where she received a degree in business economics and human resource management. Jeanne has extensive experience in customer service and product management and she is also a Certified Human Resources Professional, CHRP. John Davidson Since 1992, John has been a full-time 1 st Class Fire Fighter with Toronto Fire Services, assigned to a Technical Rescue Truck. John s professional development includes being a shift-training Instructor for auto extrication, trench rescue and rapid intervention team. He is certified in High Angle Rescue (Technical Level), Ice & Water (Technical Level), Trench Rescue (Technical Level), Confined Space Rescue (Technical Level), Auto Extrication (Technical Level) and Chainsaw (Operation Certified. John also is a certified Standard First Aid, Automated External Defibrillation and CPR Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Andrew Debenham - While joining Rescue 7 Inc. s team as our head Instructor in Manitoba, Andrew is currently working for the North Eastman Health Authority, primarily out of the Oakbank Ambulance Service as an EMT. He holds current Instructor certifications in: EMR/T, First Responder, Wilderness & Advanced Wilderness First Aid, Marie First Aid, Workplace Emergency & Standard First Aid, Oxygen Administration, HCP/BLS Professional, AED and Canadian Coast Guard Accredited Safe Boating. Andrew is also a member of the Professional Association of Dive Instructors.
3 Lisa Donnelly - Lisa is a certified BLS Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario and is a certified First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc for over 10 years. Lisa has a solid background working in the areas of Adult and Employee Education, Employee Training including On-Line and Telephone Support, and has many years of experience training in the area of Customer Service. She has also owned and operated a Child Care facility. Her real life experience with twins has allowed her to become a Support Facilitator for a Multiple Birth Association. Promoting safety in her community, Lisa has volunteered as a Brownie Leader for many years and is currently a Safety/Neighborhood Watch Representative and member of a School Council Executive. Gary English Presently employed for past 19 years as a firefighter with the city of Toronto. Current assigned as Acting captain stationed in the Don Mills area. Gary has been a involved in the past for as a trainer on his sons hockey teams. Over the past 18 years he has been the owner and operated several businesses in construction, landscaping, and golf industries. Gary is a certified Rescue 7 First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor. Mike Evans Mike Evans is currently a Professional FireFighter with the City of Toronto, and has been since Prior to joining the Fire and Emergency Services, Mike completed several intensive programs including the Firefighter 1&2 program and Rescue qualifications at Texas A&M University. Mike joined the Rescue 7 team in 2009, after completing 6 months of Firefighting with the Canadian Forces: Base Borden and a year with Toronto Fire Services. Mike enjoys working with a variety of people and clients, and being a member of the Rescue 7 team. David Fogarty CHRP, CRSP (Director of Health & Safety Training) As a Health and Safety professional for over twenty years, David's scope of work has been the development and implementation of comprehensive health and safety programs, establishment of health services for organizations, management of disability claims as well as training and development roles. David has direct manufacturing experience in aerospace, printed circuit board manufacturing, HVAC, and automotive parts manufacturing. He graduated from Humber College and holds diplomas in Occupational Hygiene and Safety as well as Human Resources Management. A member of numerous professional organizations David is also a Canadian Registered Safety Professional, CRSP, and a Certified Human Resources Professional, CHRP.
4 Brian Gemmell - Brian is an Acting Captain in the Toronto Fire Services. He has been a firefighter for over 20 years. He has extensive training and experience in Auto Extrication. Brian is also trained in Hazardous Materials, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue and Rapid Intervention the rescuing of downed or trapped firefighters. For over 8 years, Brian has a BLS Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario and a First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. through Health Canada, Human Resources Development Canada and the WSIB of Ontario. Eric Goodfellow As our lead Alberta Instructor, Eric has been instructing First Aid for over a decade and has taught for the public, summer camps, child service agencies, the private oil and gas sector, and for native populations on reserves. Safety and the steps to ensure safety when working with anyone have always been of utmost importance to Eric, it was this consciousness that lead him to become a First Aid Instructor over a decade ago. Eric's combination of field experience and teaching experience make him knowledgeable and informative, and a welcomed addition Rescue 7 Inc Instructor. Norm Goldberg For over 10 years, Norm has been a BLS-AED Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and is one of our qualified Rescue 7 Inc First Aid Head Instructors in the Quebec region. Norm has been a certified Advanced Emergency Care Assistant, Level 1 Paramedic, since 2000, and also holds certificates in ALCS, AED Instructor Trainer for Quebec Heart & Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society Examiner, Individual Crisis Management Planning and Therapeutic Crisis Management. Norm teaches both English and French sessions. Keith Harrington Since 2007, Keith has been a BLS-AED Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and is one of our qualified First Aid Instructors. Keith spent the last 7 years tuning his First Aid techniques as a backcountry wilderness guide and Instructor, Volunteering with the Search & Rescue and Wintering on the Ski Patrol in Whistler BC. Keith holds two diplomas in Forestry and Forest Science. He worked and studied in the Forestry industry for five years to complete his apprenticeship. Keith is also a certified Instructor in WHMIS, TDG and Chainsaw Operations.
5 Martin Herdé Martin is an AED and First Aid Instructor for Rescue 7 in the Ottawa Region. Martin has been a Professional Firefighter with the Ottawa Fire Service for 9 years. Before moving to Ottawa, Martin was a Firefighter with the Toronto Fire Service for 3 years. He is a graduate of the Algonquin College Pre-Entry Firefighter Program in Christopher Hope - Christopher is a registered BLS and AED Instructor with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and a First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Christopher is a paramedic holding his Advanced Emergency Medical Care (AEMCA) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certificates. Steven Hopwood-Jones Steven is a registered BLS and AED Instructor with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and a First Aid Instructor (bilingual) with Rescue 7 Inc. Since 2006, Steven has been an athletic therapist. Gerry Locke Gerry has been working for the St. John's Regional Fire Department for 12 years, since He has worked in the Communications Division as a 911 Operator and Fire Suppression Division as a Firefighter, and is a member of several specialty teams within the Fire Department such as: Confined Space Rescue, Helicopter Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Cold Water Rescue and Hazardous Materials Teams. Gerry is also certified in First Aid, CPR, AED and Oxygen Therapy Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc and is our Newfoundland representative/head instructor. Derek McNulty - Derek comes to us from Halifax NS and is bilingual in English and French. There he served for 9 years in the Canadian Forces- the last two on submarines. Among his duties he was responsible for confined space fire fighting, firefighting attack team leader and casualty clearing. Derek has a strong aquatic safety and leadership background. He has been a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor for 13 years. He is an NLS Instructor with the Lifesaving Society and Leader Trainer with the Red Cross. Derek has been teaching with Rescue 7 Inc. for over 8 years.
6 Leah Nixon Leah has taught First Aid for 23 years, and has been involved in Aquatics as an Instructor and supervisor for 25 years in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Leah is a certified as a Rescue 7 Inc. Standard First Aid/CPR Instructor, and also holds certificates as a First Responder, NLS Lifeguard, Marine Advanced FA Instructor, National Lifeguard Service Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Instructor Trainer. I am also a certified Personal Fitness Trainer. Currently Leah is the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of St. Stephen, operating the Aquatics Program. Ted Pyper Ted is been a certified BLS Instructor with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and is a certified First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Ted has a vast background in emergency services, both as a paramedic and being involved in auto racing as a member of the Mosport Safety Team for over 18 years. Ted is also a certified Instructor in WHMIS and TDG. Jeremy O'Donoghue Jeremy has been a paramedic for 7 years, working in Durham Region, The City of Greater Sudbury, Peterborough County, & with the Ornge Air Ambulance Program; and has been a HSFO CPR BLS Instructor and Rescue 7 Inc. First Aid for the past 5 years. Jeremy has degrees in English Literature & Psychology from Trent University & multiple certifications in Suicide Prevention & Crisis Intervention / Critical Incident Stress Management Strategies, & is currently working on his Advanced Care Paramedic Certification, & Adult Education Certificates. Tom Osadca - Tom has over 10 years of experience working in the emergency services field. He began his career as a dispatcher for Mississauga Ambulance and Toronto as a call taker and police dispatcher. In 2004, he began his career with Toronto Fire Services as a firefighter. He is currently a shifttraining Instructor. Tom is a certified CPR and AED Instructor with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and certified First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Kevin Roskar Kevin has been a Firefighter with the Richmond Hill Fire Department since 1999 and is a certified Emergency Medical Responder with the York/Durham Base Hospital. He is also an active trainer facilitator under the Ontario Fire Marshal, a member of the York Region Critical Incident Stress Management Team, and instructor in the Humber College Fire and Emergency Service Program. Kevin is a certified CPR and AED Instructor with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and certified First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc.
7 Elaine Shigetomi Being our B.C lead Instructor, Elaine is a certified BLS/AED Instructor-Trainer and First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Elaine is a registered nurse in the Vancouver area, and holds WCB OFA Instructor-Training Levels. Dave Spence - Dave has been with the Toronto Fire Services 32 years. He is presently a Captain in the East Division. Dave's enthusiasm for skiing led him to serve on the Ski Patrol in Ontario for a number of years. Dave attended the Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst where he received training in many disciplines in the fire service. Dave is a certified BLS/AED Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario and a First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc. Vera Stambolic - Vera joined Rescue 7 Inc in 2007 and has quickly become one of our head instructors. A member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, Vera is a Certified HSFO Instructor for CPR and AED. She has successfully completed the International Trauma Life Support course (ITLS) and holds Instructor/examiner status in both Advanced First Aid, Canadian Heart and Stroke BLS Instructor and in AED. Vera also facilitates engaging and informative Lunch and Learn Seminars and is an Instructor for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods. Rosalind Stroh - Rosalind is the Parish Nurse at St. Peter s Lutheran Church in Kitchener and has been in this position since She received her Nursing Diploma at Conestoga College and has a Parish Nursing Certification from Emmanuel College, University of Toronto. Her nursing experience includes emergency nursing; post surgery, palliative and acute care. She is a trained CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), First Aid and AED (automated external defibrillator) Instructor for Rescue 7. Ginette Traversy Ginette has been a lead Rescue 7 Inc Instructor for French training sessions. Ginette has been an active EMT-A/ Firefighter recognized by NFPA 1001, for the past 10 years. She holds Instructor level certificates in basic and advanced First Aid, CPR, AED, Pediatric Links Support, Wilderness Survival, Industrial Firefighting, WHMIS and TDG.
8 Michele VanHee (Business Development Manager) ~ A graduate from the University of Toronto and a certified ESL teacher, Michele has been a BLS Heart and Stroke Instructor for over 10 years. Joining Rescue 7 Inc. as their Business Development Manager in 2007, she has managed the implementation, customization and integration of client course. In addition to her consulting experiences, Michele actively teaches Rescue 7 Inc. s Emergency Response Training Programs, as well as conducts N95 Fit Testing, WHMIS and TDG training sessions. Katherine van Nostrand, BNRN - Katherine van Nostrand attended Dalhousie University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in Katherine was employed at The IWK Children s Hospital in Halifax in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Farmer s Dairy as The Occupational Health Nurse, Maternity/Neonatal Unit in Paget, Bermuda at The King Edward Hospital and as the Nurse Educator and Director of Nursing at The VON Cape Breton Branch. She has developed and implemented many health related programs and is currently certified as a CPR, Defibrillator and First Aid Instructor with Rescue 7 Inc.
