1 VICE PRESIDENT SPIRITUAL CARE, CHAPLAINCY, and CONGREGATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS Indiana University Health (IU Health) is the largest health system in Indiana and among the top ten largest single state nonprofit health systems in the United States. Through its 15 hospitals (a mix of urban, suburban, and rural), IU Health offers a full range of specialty and primary care services for children and adults. Statewide, IU Health has more than 2,600 staffed beds with $6.23 billion in net total operating revenue. Its strategic service lines, cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, orthopedics, pediatrics and transplant have received national recognition for quality patient care over the decades. IU Health has about 33,000 team members. IU Health also has a unique partnership with Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), one of the nation s leading medical schools. As an academic health system, IU Health works with IUSM to train physicians, blending breakthrough research and treatments with the highest quality of patient care. In FY 15-16, IUSM had more than $320 million in grant research funding and trained 1,167 fellows and residents. In Indianapolis, IU Health includes three major hospitals downtown - IU Health Methodist Hospital, IU Health University Hospital, and Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health - which serve as the academic health center (AHC) and provide nationally recognized clinical care to patients from across Indiana and beyond with severe or complex illnesses. The regional and statewide facilities serve as referral resources to the AHC for providing seamless, high quality patient care. 2 IU Health Physicians Group The IU Health Physicians group, which employs more than 1,600 physicians in the metropolitan- Indianapolis area, is one of several physician employment vehicles affiliated with IU Health, including practice groups in Lafayette, Muncie, and Bloomington, Indiana. It is one of the fastest-growing, comprehensive, multi-specialty practice groups in Indiana. IU Health Physicians also serves as the faculty practice plan of the IUSM and brings together IUSM faculty physicians, IU Health-affiliated physicians, and private practice physicians to give highly skilled doctors access to innovative treatments using the latest research and technology. IU Health Transplant is the only comprehensive transplant program in Indiana and one of the nation s largest solid-organ transplant center. IU Simon Cancer Center is Indiana s only National Cancer Institute-designated patient care center with more than 200 physician researchers leading the way to new treatments. Position Summary This position is responsible for the administration and leadership of spiritual care, chaplaincy, clinical pastoral education and congregational relations of Indiana University Health. This involves not only administrative responsibility for all elements of planning, executing, and evaluating departments responsible for these activities but also coordinating goals, strategies, and policies with the responsible leaders. This position also will work with the EVP of Mission & Values to grow and develop strong health and welfare partnerships with the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church while also responding to opportunities for similar engagements with other faith traditions. This leader will uphold and model the IU Health mission, values, and vision and support other leaders and employees in the same. The incumbent must be a visionary leader who effectively drives change in a highly-matrixed administrative culture. IU Health is seeking a dynamic and accomplished healthcare executive who can work effectively in a highly matrixed and relationship-driven culture. The incumbent must be a visionary leader who knows how to effectively drive change in a complex and distributed yet system-oriented environment. 4 Key Relationships Reports to: Direct Reports/ Key Relationships: Executive Vice President, Mission & Values President and CEO, IU Health Bishop, Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church Board Committee on Values, Ethics, Social Responsibility, and Pastoral Services Director Community Outreach and Engagement Directors or Managers of spiritual care and chaplaincy in each entity System Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education Major Responsibilities As a bold, strategic, and transformational leader for IU Health, the Vice President Spiritual Care, Chaplaincy, And Congregational Partnerships will: Manage in partnership with various entity leaders, achievement of strategic goals and annual goals. Integrate and align spiritual care priorities with all entities in the system. Manage people and financial resources effectively and efficiently per policies and procedures. Provide input into philosophy, goals and policies of system chaplaincy and spiritual care. Develop a system 3-5 year plan for spiritual care, chaplaincy, and clinical pastoral education and execute on that plan in collaboration with other leaders. Strengthen ties to the United Methodist Church as well as other congregations and faith traditions to improve the health of communities served by IU Health. Collaborate with the EVP of Mission & Values to further the purposes of the IU Health Board Committee on Values, Ethics, Social Responsibility and Pastoral Services. Fosters an inclusive workplace and proactively manages diversity toward a culture of trust and respect. Develop and utilize service metrics and quality metrics for patients and staff served by spiritual care and chaplaincy; improve service based upon those metrics. Practices evidence based decision-making. Ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation standards within the assigned areas of accountability. 8/17/2017 4

Be a member of the IU Health leadership team, with the ability, desire, and proven results to assume additional responsibility beyond the Vice President Spiritual Care, Chaplaincy, And Congregational Partnerships role. Be accountable for implementing a communication strategy that establishes two-way communication channels to convey business strategies in an effective manner that engages people and collaborates with stakeholders. Collaborate with all levels of Executive leadership providing coaching, development, and educational programs when needed. Facilitate the development and growth of leadership within a comprehensive and geographically dispersed integrated healthcare system. Cultivates an environment of collaboration, responsibility and accountability resulting in such highly successful outcomes that IU Health becomes the benchmark. Support the commitment to data-driven decision-making applying the Lean methodologies and leading the use of key performance indicators/metrics to bring forth positive change to improve existing processes. Foster an inclusive workplace that maximizes the talents of each person to achieve the vision and mission of the organization. Develops direction by ensuring that the purpose and importance of the team are clarified (e.g., team has a clear charter or mission statement); guides the setting of specific and measurable team goals and objectives. Facilitates goal accomplishment by inspiring, motivating and guiding others. Encourages cooperation within the organization to connect team members to best thinking practices. Involves others by listening to team decisions and actions; values and uses individual difference and talents. Implements action plans to improve employee/physician engagement. Fosters continuous improvement by recognizing and rewarding behaviors that elevate performance and outcomes. Champion organizational assessment and survey initiatives (Employee; Physician; Volunteer). Consistently implement IU Health s promise to patients across services lines. Ensure all team members fully understand and are empowered to deliver on IU Health s customer promise to achieve 90 th percentile performance on defined patient satisfaction measures. Partner with Customer Experience team to implement Patient and Family Advisory Councils to attain continual customer feedback. Ensure all accreditation programs are developed and implemented, and appropriate Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements are met. Coordinate closely with IU Health Regulatory and Quality departments. CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Ideal Experience 8/17/2017 5

6 Requires certification as a hospital chaplain with preference toward those certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. A Master of Divinity degree is required with a minimum of 5 years leadership/management experience. Requires an understanding and competence in partnering with congregations and judicatories to improve the health of the communities served by IU Health. Requires ability to minister to persons of all traditions and no religious tradition; comfortable with people from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Strong demonstrated transformational and complex, matrixed leadership skills (inspiring, problem solving, communication across multiple organizations, executing). Strong communication and relationship-building skills with all levels of employees, management and community leaders and a proven leader who is an effective, creative and visionary problem solver. A proven leader of people, able to recruit, develop and mentor a top-notch team capable of supporting future growth and has demonstrated leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace and community. Knowledge of industry issues such as transition from volume based to value based economics, accountable care and insurance/population risk models. Requires experience managing multiple complex projects involving multiple customers, interests and goals. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency guidelines and laws. Critical Competencies for Success Senior executive leadership: The ideal candidate will possess a track record of strong, executive level leadership within a large and complex healthcare organization that has recently undergone a period of significant growth and expansion. The candidate will have the ability to establish a tone of executive leadership which is patient centered and will foster a culture of quality and service. In addition, the executive will have the ability to partner effectively and constructively with senior leadership across the system. Effective Relationship Builder: The successful candidate demonstrates credibility as a senior executive quality and integration leader and ambassador through fostering strong and productive professional relationships across multiple constituencies and key stakeholder groups. He/she will be an active listener and strong communicator, as well as an active participant in key strategic discussions; will be visible to multiple constituencies and actively seek input and feedback from others; and, will be viewed as a collaborator and team player. Strategic System Development: The candidate will have a track record of successful system integration across multiple cultures, legacy systems and varied settings of care. The candidate will demonstrate experience in achieving strong leadership and financial performance by generating revenue, containing 8/17/2017 6

7 costs, increasing the quality of care and services offered to patients, and maximizing reimbursement operations of IU Health. He/she will demonstrate an aptitude for actively leading and participating in strategic system discussions that will improve the health of the overall system. The candidate will show a commitment to systemness and the ability to make decisions based on the goal of developing a high quality, efficient health care system that will meet the overall vision of IU Health.
