1 Program Sponsor MDS 3.0 Leading a Successful Transition plus Are Your Stars in Alignment? CMS Five-Star Quality Rating System for Nursing Homes June 15, 2010 University of Minnesota Continuing Education & Conference Center
2 If you are an administrator, CEO, regional director, director of nursing, MDS coordinator, or business office manager, MDS 3.0 Leading a Successful Transition is designed specifically for you. Care Providers of Minnesota is pleased to welcome two national experts from PointRight for a full day of MDS 3.0 and CMS Five-Star Rating System training. MDS 3.0: Leading a Successful Transition 4 hours MDS is the backbone of our industry and this is not changing. Successful transition to MDS 3.0 will impact reimbursement, professional/general liability, public perception and, most importantly, resident care. We have been down this road before! The key question is, Are we doomed to repeat past mistakes or will we use past experiences to master this impending challenge? This is not an MDS coding workshop, but a program designed for facility leadership ultimately responsible for financial, clinical and overall success of the facility. Are Your Stars in Alignment? CMS Five-Star Quality Rating System for Nursing Homes 2 hours Since December 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have been using the Five-Star rating system for the nation s nursing homes. Touted as an enhancement to Nursing Home Compare, CMS long-standing public reporting system for nursing home quality, Five-Star aims to offer consumers an easier quality rating system to assist in making placement decisions and monitoring quality of care. Five-Star incorporates survey, staffing, and quality into an overall score of one to five stars. Since its inception, stakeholders have questioned many aspects of how stars are assigned to facilities. While CMS continues to work with providers and health care associations to address concerns, long-term care providers must work with, manage, understand and translate the Five-Star system for staff, residents, families, governing bodies and the public. This program will help long-term care facility staff be critical consumers of this information and, when possible, identify improvement strategies. We ve Got You Covered!
